[Mykel’s POV]
I can’t hold back the laughter that escapes me at the looks on my companions' faces over Amya’s words. Honestly, I couldn’t blame them. Where we always thought that Pam was something else, the woman in my arms was easily outdoing her.
"Come on." I puffed, as Amya continued to look proud of herself. "Because of you, I have a ton of paperwork that needs to be handled now."
"Me?" Amya pouted, feigning innocence. "I’ve done nothing."
"Nice try, primadonna." Fronz cackled. "You managed to get this fella to give up a big sum of money. Must have something special. "
"It is the power of the pussy." Grendal offered, causing the entire group, minus the kid, to laugh.
"Hey, kid." I called, realizing he was the only one whose name I didn’t know.
"Me?" The boy asked, lifting an eyebrow that looked oddly similar to Mykel’s. "I have a name, you know."
"Oh yeah?" I challenged. "Well, how about you tell me your name?"
Luckily, from the conversation that took place around me, I had managed to learn everyone else’s names. But the boy wasn’t mentioned at all. However, the more I took him in, the more he looked like Mykel. Did that imply...
"Is he your kid?" I asked, unable to contain my curiosity. "A single father... that’s pretty hot."
"I’m his brother." The kid responded, giving a look of amusement. "Does he really look that old?"
"Who knows?" I shrugged. "As wolves, we age so much slower. He could be twice my age and I wouldn’t be shocked. "
"I’m thirty." Mykel snapped, though he seemed amused. "And this brat is my kid brother Linton."
"Aw, and here I thought I was going to be able to be a step-mommy."
As I speak, I take in Linton’s growing discomfort. Leave it to angsty teenagers to give me all the amusment I needed. Reminded me of my kid brother. Almost, anyway.
Pain shoots through me as Brayden’s face flashes across my mind. I couldn’t help but wonder how he was handling father and mother since I left. Were they treating him okay or were they now taking out their masochistic tendencies on him since I wasn’t there?
"What’s wrong?" Mykel murmured, catching onto my quickly drifting mood.
"Nothing."
Even though I was more than open about my attraction to this big lug, that didn’t mean that I wanted to open up to him about my issues. All I wanted from this encounter was a good fuck, and then I planned to leave and start my life as a rogue.
"Maybe she has already begun to grow bored of you." Grendal suggested.
"Or she is more interested in the younger version of Mykel." Fronz tried.
"I’m not a cradle robber." I pointed out. "However, maybe in a few years."
"Please!" Linton gasped, paling ever so slightly. "Don’t get me killed."
"Hm?"
Turning, I met Mykel’s quickly darkening gaze and took in the powerful aura of possession that was beginning to radiate from him. Oh, this guy meant business and truly did think of me as something to possess. I guess that meant that I would have to prove to him that I wasn’t some weak bitch that could be used as a trophy.
"Come on, I’m sure everyone has already sensed us." Grendal said slowly, taking in Mykel’s mood. "I’m sure they’re dying to know if you earned that thousand gold or if you fucked it up."
Nodding, Mykel began to move towards the building beyond, causing the music and laughter to grow louder and louder until it was damn near deafening.
"You ready?" He asked, leaning in close to my ear.
"Sure."
If he thought I was going to have any fear, he had another thing coming. From the vibe I got so far from those around us, I knew that these people were my type of people. It was a shame that I couldn’t continue to stay with them for long.
Inside, the building was filled with rough-looking men and women. By how boisterous they were, you could tell they had plenty of liquor already in them.
"Welcome to the Boar’s Head Guild." Mykel announced, placing me on my feet as many eyes came our way. "This is the place where all the villains and criminals gather."
"Hm," I had to admit. What he was telling me was interesting, but I didn’t have much time to think about it as a large woman with crimson red hair and sparkling green eyes came crashing towards us.
"MYKEL!" She shrieked, taking a swig of the beer that hung haphazardly in her fingers. "Who is this cute little creature you’ve brought back?"
Letting a slow smile play across my lips, I reached out and placed a hand on the woman’s cheek and leaned in so close our breaths were mingling.
"I’m Amya, and if you call me little again, I’ll fillet you." I murmured, giving the woman a quick peck on the lips before taking a step back.
For a moment, the room grew quiet as everyone waited to see what this crazy woman would do due to my actions. However, what happened next was probably not what everyone expected. Before I could even move, her arm was wrapping around my shoulders and pulling me close to her side as a loud laugh escaped her.
"Dammit, you’re cute!" The woman cooed, smacking me so hard on the back I nearly fell forward. "I can see you and I are going to get along great. And when I say great, I mean great." She continued, leaning in close to my ear. "I don’t know if these blokes have told you, but I likes me a strong and sassy woman. Careful or I might fall in love with you."
‘She’s crazy.’ Mia gasped, taking in the whole scene.
‘My kind of woman.’ I laughed.
"What’s your name, psycho?" I asked, meeting the woman’s gaze.
"I’m Pam." The woman responded. "You could consider me the den mother here. I keep all these assholes in line. "
"Oh!" I was liking her more and more. "Do you whip them when they’re bad? Or do you torture them?"
"Well, well... It looks like you and Mykel are one of a kind. " Pam chuckled, giving Mykel a wink as his eyes slowly darkened from anger. "Oh, don’t look at me like that!"
"Back away from my prey, Pam." Mykel growled.
Letting a laugh escape me, I felt a spark of mischievousness rush through me. Was he jealous that this woman was hanging on to me? If so, I guess I could give him something to be jealous about. It was beginning to look like my short time here would be quite fun.
[Mykel’s POV]"Please."Amya’s voice, which begged me, sounded so damn sad that it was taking everything I had not to attack right here and now. Why the hell was I even hesitating?I didn’t understand it myself, but something about fucking her right here and now just didn’t feel right to me. It was so similar to the way I did it with all the other women that I just couldn’t bring myself to do it."Mykel."Dammit. Snapping out of my head, I looked down into Amya’s large, pleading eyes, finding myself getting lost.‘Just do it,’ a small voice in the back of my head urged. ‘Before she decides to leave you.’Leave me? There was no fucking way that I would allow that to happen. Amya was mine—mind, body, and soul. The moon goddess made her for me, and I would be damned if I let any other bastard touch her.‘And what if they do?’ The voice continued. ‘Will you have the right to stop them?’Would I? Yes, I would, and once I did, they would disappear from the face of the earth."Is that a no?"
[Amya’s POV]I hover nearby while Mykel tells Armal and me about his discovery while in the Oasis, but I can’t quite believe what I’m hearing. All my life I had hoped to meet my wolf, but after Mia suddenly appeared within me, I lost all hope and accepted that she was my other half. But now here was Mykel saying that he not only found my wolf, no, he discovered the wolf I craved was the very thing that was trying to kill me."It doesn’t make sense," Armal muttered, voicing my own thoughts. "Why would Amya’s wolf want to kill her?""Maybe it feels that she betrayed it by accepting Mia?" Mykel offered, sending a pang of pain through me. "I can kind of understand its sentiments."Frowning, I eyed Mykel as the clear jealousy he had constantly felt since discovering his best friend was mated to my other half appeared. I guess he was right; he understood, even if I thought it was ridiculous."So what do we do?" I asked, wanting to change the subject. "We aren’t going to destroy my wolf, are
[Mykel’s POV]I continued to examine the area around me until I spotted what looked like plumes of smoke. If anything was releasing these things, I had a good feeling it was whatever that smoke was coming from.Fixing my gaze on my target, I began to move, leaping across rivers of lava and climbing over clusters of boulders."What the hell?" I hissed, when I finally reached my destination. "What is that?"Ahead of me wasn’t what I expected. Instead of a possible mountain, which I had initially thought was the culprit, it was a large crevice in the ground that smoke and fire billowed out of, and as the smoke grew higher and higher, it shifted and changed into those things we had been fighting in the oasis.Bracing myself, I slowly inched closer until I found myself standing on its edge and looking down at the last thing I expected.Sitting in the middle of a pool of fire was a large black wolf with red markings on its fur that looked almost like fire and that glowed and shifted with th
[Mykel’s POV]Satisfied that Denny and his idiot squad wouldn’t be anymore of a nuisance, I pulled Amya to me and began to move."Are we really just going to leave them like that?" she whispers, shooting a look over her shoulder. "What if they try?""They won’t," I assure her, smirking. "Denny knows damn well that if he betrays his word, I’ll kill him, no questions asked. Now, stop wasting so much energy on other men because you’re going to make me jealous.""Aw, do you really think I’d be interested in anyone but you?" Amya purred, skipping around to stand in front of me. "Don’t worry, you’re the only one for me; after all, the goddess said it was so."Growling, I reach out and attempt to grab Amya to punish her for her poor joke. However, she easily shimmies out of the way as a tinkling laugh escapes her."Catch me if you can, big guy!"Letting out a sigh, I began to move but stopped as Armal’s presence suddenly pressed against my skin.Shit, did this mean that he was back? If so, w
[Amya’s POV]"Are you sure about this?"Mykel’s worried voice radiated from beside me as I got into position to begin my battle with Denny.Turning, I just gave a smile and a winked. If he thought that I would do something that I wasn’t confident about, then he really didn’t know me."Don’t worry," I murmured, reaching out and squeezing his hand. "Do you really think that this sourpuss will be able to take me?"For a moment, Mykel doesn’t speak as he looks from me to Denny and back. Despite my assurance, it is easy to tell by the look on his face that he isn’t quite sure."I know you’re worried," I sighed, feeling his tension and unease through our bond. "But I promise you, I’ll be fine."Leaning over, I quickly kiss his cheek before turning my full attention to Denny, who is watching us with an unreadable expression."Jealous?" I smirked, flashing my teeth. "Would you like a kiss too?"At my words, a growl of warning erupts from Mykel that causes me to burst into a fit of laughter. M
[Mykel’s POV]"You’re going to make me yack." Pam groaned as I planted another kiss on the top of Amya’s head. "Could you stop?""Close your eyes." I chuckled, using a finger to push Amya’s head up enough for me to kiss her lips. "Or enjoy the show.""Wait!" Amya gasped, lifting her hand and covering my mouth. As I tried to process her rejection, a bark of laughter escaped Pam, while Lucien and Grendal fought to remain sober."I think that’s her way of agreeing that you’re being disgusting." Pam cackled."Actually," Amya countered, "it isn’t that I don’t want him to kiss me, but I kind of just threw up and haven’t been able to brush my teeth or wash my mouth."At her words, I felt a wave of relief roll through me. She wasn’t rejecting me. That was great."It appears that you will have to wait until we find an inn, lover boy." Pam giggled. "And even then, she will be sharing a room with me.""Fuck that."When we got to the inn, there was no way in hell that I was going to let Amya out
