Her Other Side

[Mykel’s POV]

I continued to examine the area around me until I spotted what looked like plumes of smoke. If anything was releasing these things, I had a good feeling it was whatever that smoke was coming from.

Fixing my gaze on my target, I began to move, leaping across rivers of lava and climbing over clusters of boulders.

"What the hell?" I hissed, when I finally reached my destination. "What is that?"

Ahead of me wasn’t what I expected. Instead of a possible mountain, which I had initially thought was the culprit, it was a large crevice in the ground that smoke and fire billowed out of, and as the smoke grew higher and higher, it shifted and changed into those things we had been fighting in the oasis.

Bracing myself, I slowly inched closer until I found myself standing on its edge and looking down at the last thing I expected.
