The decision settled over us, heavy but right. It was not perfect. Nothing involving Vivienne ever was. But it respected her power while protecting her body, and it gave her empire enough force to keep breathing until she could return in person.

We would need to bring her in carefully, let her see every step, make it clear we were offering hands, not chains. The problem was not the plan. The problem was who would deliver it.
