Chapter 5

Author: Vesper Shaw
Eloise turned to me, her eyes blazing with fury. “You vile, heartless pair of siblings! How dare you treat Rex like this! I will have my father deal with you, he will show you no mercy!”

Isabella’s voice dropped low, calm and steady, cutting through Eloise’s outburst like a blade. “Fine. Let’s see when he gets here—whether he’ll show us no mercy, or whether he’ll have a few things to say to you.”

She pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

Eloise’s father, Lionel Grant, answered on the first r

I turned to my butler, who had been standing silently by the wall. “Send two soldiers to follow them. Make sure they actually go through with it. I want to see a wedding by this time tomorrow.”The butler bowed. “It will be done, sir.”Twenty-four hours passed. True to my instructions, the soldiers reported back that the Grants had scrambled to prepare a wedding. There was no time for an elaborate ceremony—no grand cathedral, no designer gown, no lavish reception. Instead, they were rushed to a small, nondescript chapel on the outskirts of the city, where a bewildered priest had been summoned on short notice.Eloise was dressed in a simple white dress that looked like it had been grabbed off a department store rack. Her hair was hastily pinned up, but strands had already come loose, framing her pale, exhausted face. There were dark circles under her eyes, and her expression was one of pure misery. She looked like a woman being marched to her execution, not a bride on her wedding day.

Lionel’s voice was cautious, almost trembling, as he spoke. “Mr. Rosetti, I know my daughter has offended you in the worst possible way. But I beg you—please, I have only one child. She is all I have in this world. If you take her from me, I will have nothing left. Name your price—any price—and I will pay it. Just spare her life.”He dropped to his knees beside Eloise, his shoulders hunched, his face pale and slick with sweat. This was a man who had built an empire from nothing, who had once run with the most dangerous circles in New York. And now he was groveling on the floor like a servant.Eloise stared at her father, her mouth hanging open. The sight of him kneeling seemed to shake something loose inside her. Her voice came out in a broken whisper. “Dad... what are you doing? Get up. Please, get up. You don’t have to do this.”Lionel ignored her, keeping his eyes fixed on me. “Mr. Rosetti, I will give you anything—my companies, my properties, my shares. Take it all. Just let my dau

The hospital room was quiet except for the soft beeping of monitorsI shifted closer to my sister, resting my head against her shoulder. “Bella, you shouldn’t apologize. You did what you had to do. You were barely twenty when they died. You took over a gang, kept everyone in line, and still made sure I had everything I needed. You even let me chase my racing dream. How many people in our world get that kind of freedom?”I turned to look at her. “You also built an entire business empire underneath the radar. Those tech startups, the real estate holdings, the import companies—they’re all ours, aren’t they?”Isabella nodded. “I handpicked people with talent and loyalty. I funded them, mentored them, and let them grow. Over the years, the Rosetti family quietly acquired legitimate businesses in every major sector. Most people don’t know we own half of those companies. The Grant Group was one of my earliest projects. Lionel had connections and ambition, but no capital. I gave him both. In r

I don’t expect you would call. What can I do for you?”“Your daughter is really something.” Isabella’s tone was icy.Lionel inquired hurriedly, “Did she upset you or what? I will discipline her, I promise.”“My only brother is Ethan. I’ve always cherished him, and you know that perfectly well.” Isabella’s voice carried a sharp edge of displeasure.“Of course! Please rest assured. I will personally instruct Eloise to be a dutiful and gentle wife. Sh

When I saw Isabella—my sister, my savior—something inside me cracked open.“Bella,” I choked out, and the word came out like a child’s sob, raw and broken. She crossed to me in four long strides, shoving the guards aside with a single sharp motion. Her arms wrapped around me, pulling my head against her shoulder.I felt her hand press against the back of my skull, cradling me like I was five years old again. For the first time since this nightmare began, I let myself breathe. She murmured softly, her fingers stroking my hair. “I’m here now. No one’s going to hurt you anymore.”Rex, completely oblivious to the danger bearing down on him, strutted forward with his chest puffed out. He folded his arms, a smug grin plastered across his face, clearly still riding the high of his little power trip.“So you’re his sister, huh?” he said, tilting his head. “Good. Then here are my conditions. The suit your bastard brother touched—you’ll pay me ten times its value. The two slaps and a kick? He kn

I lifted my gaze through the searing pain in my stomach, locking eyes with Rex and Eloise.“You dare treat me like this?” My voice came out raw, barely above a whisper. “I will make you both suffer for what you’ve done to me. ”“The Grant family runs this city. What can a broke nobody like you possibly do to fight us?” Rex threw his head back and laughed—loud, ugly, echoing off the marble floors. “You just hit me. Today, I’m going to teach you exactly what happens when you cross the wrong people.”Then he raised his foot and stomped hard on my right hand. The world exploded into searing agony. I felt bones grind beneath his heel. My breath caught in my throat, a choked gasp that wouldn't come out right. My vision blurred at the edges.A murmur rippled through the onlookers.“Told him not to mess with the Grants,” someone whispered. “He just wouldn’t listen—now he’s paying the price.”Another voice sighed, “Oh no, his hand—it must be broken. He may never be able to use his right hand ag
