Chapter 1

Author: Crystal K
Alpha Riven was my fated mate. I had forged his failing pack into a powerhouse. Our victory was supposed to be a new beginning. Instead, at the celebration feast, he rejected me for another she-wolf—one carrying his pup.

"Tonight, we celebrate the glory of the Blackmoon Pack!"

The bonfire roared. Riven stood on a high platform, raising his silver goblet.

His handsome face glowed in the firelight, his deep eyes sweeping over every pack member.

"Tomorrow, we leave this barren, snowy wasteland and move to the rich lands at the heart of the Alliance!"

A thunderous cheer erupted.

Pack members raised their goblets, a primal energy crackled through the camp.

I stood in the shadows, watching my creation. The Alpha I had built from nothing.

Five years. I’d taken a pathetic pack of a dozen wolves and forged them into a force worthy of the Alliance’s heartlands.

I had made this happen.

But my father’s warnings about the treachery of power always echoed in my mind.

With every alliance I forged, with every strategy I devised, I created a shadow copy, a hidden ledger of proof.

I called it my “dowry insurance,” praying to the Goddess I would never need it.

But yes, I still held one secret close to my heart.

Once we were in the Alliance, I would reveal my true self.

And I would offer him a throne.

"Mark, give the moonstones to our warriors," Riven's voice called out.

I looked eagerly at the Beta, Mark.

My heart hammered. Moonstones. The highest honor in the pack, reserved for its greatest heroes.

Mark held a silver platter loaded with the glowing stones and began to hand them out.

"Erik, for your bravery at Ice Bear Valley."

"Lisa, for your work during the food crisis."

"Tom, for your brilliant negotiations."

One by one, pack members received their honor.

Mark walked up to me… and then walked right past me, handing a moonstone to the wolf behind me.

I froze.

"What?" I reached out and stopped him. "Mark, where's my moonstone?"

Mark met my gaze, his eyes cold. Filled with a disgust that shocked me to my core. "What moonstone? What gives you the right?"

"What gives me the right?" I couldn't believe my ears. "For the last five years—"

"For the last five years, what?" A sharp female voice cut me off.

Jenna sauntered over, a cruel smirk twisting her pretty face.

"Just how have you been 'contributing' to the pack?" she sneered, drawing out the word.

The pack members around us started whispering.

I felt their stares turn strange.

"Jenna, what are you talking about?" I frowned.

"What am I talking about?" Jenna laughed. "Get out of the way, you filthy she-wolf!"

She pulled a document from her dress and slapped it against my face.

"What is this?" I grabbed it.

Scrawled in blood-red ink across the silver parchment were two words that shattered my world: MATE REJECTION.

At the bottom was Riven's clear signature.

"Impossible!" My head snapped up to Riven on the platform.

He was watching me, his eyes empty and cold.

"Riven!" I ran for the platform. "What is going on?!"

"Stop!" Mark blocked my path. "You're not worthy of approaching the Alpha!"

"Not worthy? I'm his fated mate!"

"Mate?" Jenna let out a piercing laugh. "You?"

She clapped her hands.

The magic crystal in the center of the camp lit up, projecting a massive vision.

The crystal projected scenes of me. Laughing with other Alphas. Letting them hold my waist, caress my cheek, even press a kiss to my forehead.

"What is this?" I stared at the images, horrified.

"This," Jenna said viciously, "is your 'hard work' for the past five years! You sold your body for their support!"

The pack erupted. Gasps of fury. Roars of outrage.

"So that's how!"

"No wonder we got so much help from other packs!"

"Filthy she-wolf!"

"She's disgraced our pack!"

Riven slowly walked down from the platform and stood before me.

"Renata," his voice was ice. "Do you have anything to say?"

"Riven, you have to believe me!" I grabbed his arm. "These visions are fake! Otherwise, why didn't you sense it?"

"Fake?" He shoved my hand away. “Jenna said that you have a drug that can temporarily block the connection between us. You hang out with these people every day. It's not hard to get it, right?”

"Then explain it. Why did the Shadow Pack help us? Why did the Storm Pack lend us warriors? Why did the Bloodfang Pack share their hunting grounds?"

"Because of my strategies! My diplomacy!" I cried out in desperation.

"Strategies? Diplomacy?" Riven spat. "Or was it just a warm bed you offered?"

He held up the rejection letter, its silver edge glinting in the firelight.

"I, Riven, Alpha of the Blackmoon Pack, hereby reject Renata as my mate!"

The edge of the letter sliced across my cheek. The silver burned like fire.

Blood dripped down my face.

A searing agony ripped through my soul. The mate bond was shattering. I couldn't breathe.

"From this moment on, you are nothing to me!"

I clutched my cheek, enduring the pain as I stared at the visions.

Suddenly, I froze.

In one of the images, the man holding me, the one who'd saved me from a pack of rogues… he had golden hair and eyes as dark and deep as a starless night.

I knew that face.

Damien.

My brother. Crown Prince Damien.

In an instant, everything clicked into place.

Riven's coldness, Jenna's smirks, Mark's hostility, the pack's distance.

It was all a setup.

They waited for this moment, right before we moved to the central territories, to completely erase me.

So Riven could take all the glory for himself.

I stared at the vision, and a hollow laugh escaped my lips.

Three months later. The Royal Capital.I stood on the highest balcony of the palace, looking out over the vast lands. The sun was setting, casting a golden glow over the endless forest. It was breathtaking."Renata."My father, Alpha King Alistair, came to my side, a rare, gentle smile on his stern face."Still thinking about the past?""No," I shook my head. "I'm thinking about the future.""Good," he nodded, pleased. "The scars of the past are what forge a true ruler."My mother, the Luna Queen, came over and gently stroked my hair."My little princess. Welcome home."Home. The word warmed my heart."By the way," Damien walked in, holding a letter. "There's news about someone you might want to hear.""What news?""Riven and Jenna," he sneered. "They've been exiled in the Forbidden Lands of Eternal Winter for three months now.""And?""Riven was stripped of his Alpha power. They say he can't even shift anymore," Damien continued, a cruel twist to his lips. "As for Jenna... she lost th

My words shattered the last of Riven's pride. He collapsed, and the golden insignia of Alliance membership on his chest began to smolder, burning into his skin.In his desperation, he grabbed for one last, pathetic hope."The bond, Renata! The bond is still there!" he pleaded, crawling toward me. "The Goddess fated us! We can still complete the marking! You can still be my Luna!""Get off me," I kicked his hand away, my eyes filled with disgust.Jenna's face, once smug, was now a contorted mask of terror. "He's the father of my child!" she shrieked, lunging not at me, but at Riven, clawing at his arm. "Riven, tell them! Tell them about our pup! The pup of an Alpha! It's supposed to be a prince, not the son of a traitor! You promised me! You promised I would be a true Luna!"Then, her eyes snapped back to me, filled with a wild, desperate hatred. "You bitch! This is all your fault! You couldn't just disappear! You stole my glory! My baby's future! I'm carrying his heir, not you! I am

The Lunas approached, their faces twisted into masks of vicious glee."That's her!" the one in the lead pointed at me. "That shameless slut!""What?" The crowd stirred.“She came to our pack two years ago,” another Luna added, her voice dripping with venom. “She talked of battle plans and trade routes, things a she-wolf has no business knowing! She tried to seduce my Alpha with power, right in front of me!” “I’ve seen her too!” a third Luna chimed in. “She met with my mate, not in secret, but openly, as an equal! It was unnatural! She was trying to bewitch him with her influence!”"And me! She gave my Alpha herbs, calling it a 'thank you,' but she was trying to bewitch him!"One after another, the Lunas accused me.Their words were venomous, their expressions over-the-top. It was a poorly staged play."See?" Jenna said, gloating. "Even these respected Lunas can prove how filthy she is!"The crowd was in an uproar again."So it's true!""She's a home-wrecking witch!""A woman like tha

"Fellow members of the Alliance," Riven turned to the crowd, his voice thick with practiced pain. "Do you see this woman?"All eyes turned to me."This woman," he began, "she was my fated mate. I loved her more than life. And she tore my heart from my chest."Sympathetic murmurs rippled through the crowd."The poor Alpha!""To be betrayed by your own fated mate... what a curse.""That she-wolf has darkness in her eyes."Riven continued his performance. "The Blackmoon Pack is only here today, not because of my strength, but because of her!""What do you mean?" an Alpha asked."She sold her honor, piece by piece, to buy our success! She traded her body for alliances!"The plaza exploded with angry chatter."So that's how!""No wonder the Blackmoon Pack rose so fast!""A filthy bargain!""A woman like that should be declared a rogue!"A few younger wolves started a live feed of the "trial" on the wolf network."Look! It's that infamous she-wolf!""That's her! The one who sold her body!"T

"What's wrong? Cat got your tongue?" A triumphant smirk spread across Jenna's face as she rose from the floor."You..." My eyes widened. "You broadcasted it?""Of course!" Riven sneered. "I want your name to be a curse in every pack in the North. A warning to she-wolves who think they can play with power.""The entire North is talking about you now," Jenna clapped her hands. "'The filthy she-wolf who sold her body.' It's quite the reputation."My crystal kept vibrating as messages poured in:"Disgrace of the snowlands!""Filthy traitor!""What pack would ever take in a woman like that?""Banned from our lands forever!"Every pack was spitting on my name, cursing me."Perfect," Riven said, enjoying the messages. "From now on, you are packless. A rogue. No one will take you. You will die alone in the snow. And I will be celebrated as a hero."I slowly stood up and straightened my clothes."Well then, I should be going.""Going?" Riven grabbed my arm. "Who said you could go?""What more d

The next morning, the door to the prison cart creaked open."Out!" Mark yanked on my silver chain. "The Alpha is being merciful. You can pack your things and get lost. He's sparing you from exile."I was dragged to the front of the familiar tent. For five years, this had been my home with Riven.I pushed open the flap and looked inside. The fur rugs—I had stitched them by hand. The wooden desk, piled high with strategic analyses I had written. The map on the wall, every mark drawn by my own hand. And the ever-blooming snow lotus on the bedside table. Our token of love.I walked to the center of the tent and summoned a ceremonial flame.A blue fire danced in my palm."You want a clean break?" I whispered to the ghosts of our past. "Fine. We'll make it a clean burn."I tossed the flame onto the pyre of our past. The desk caught fire. The map curled into ash. The snow lotus glowed one last time before it was consumed."What are you doing?!"The tent flap was thrown open and Riven stormed
