Chapter 1

ผู้เขียน: Words to Life
Inside the private room, a man who had clearly won big grabbed a chip stamped with the image of my thigh. He stuck out his tongue and licked it obscenely.

"Damn, this is something else. I've just licked Winona Lombardi's thigh, and my luck's already turning. I just don't know when I'll get to push this slut down and really have my way with her."

Julian Vitale's voice drifted over lazily from inside the room. "What's the rush? Everyone will get their turn. A woman like that just needs someone to crook a finger at her, and she'll strip herself naked and crawl over on her own."

Laughter echoed from around them.

Another voice chimed in, one I had never heard before, "Honestly, Winona is so obedient. You can make her do whatever you want in bed. None of my mistresses can compare to her. Don Vitale, if you get tired of her, why don't you pass her my way?"

"Exactly. Just letting us watch isn't nearly enough. Every time I see her, I can't help myself, especially when I think about how fragile she looked right after the miscarriage. It's driving me insane."

A chill crept up my spine.

When Julian had been ambushed by a rival family, I had miscarried while trying to protect him.

I remembered that day vividly.

The hospital sheets had been soaked through with blood. He'd held my hand with red-rimmed eyes.

He'd said, "Winona, I'm sorry. I swear I'll never let you suffer like this again. I'll protect you."

As it turned out, this was what his protection amounted to—sending me straight into his buddies' beds.

Thinking about it now, I realized those photos must have been taken when I was at my weakest.

I clenched my fists and tried to rush forward, but two men in black blocked me at the door without budging. "Ms. Lombardi, you can't go in without Don Vitale's permission."

The wound on my abdomen was still bleeding through my dress.

Yesterday, Julian was ambushed on the road, and I had stepped forward without thinking, taking the knife that was meant for him.

He immediately drove me to the hospital where his god-sister, Milena Santoro, worked.

When we arrived, despite meeting me for the first time, Milena targeted me at every turn. She deliberately poured an excessive amount of alcohol over my wound and roughly prodded the injured area.

The pain made my whole body tremble as I begged her to be gentler.

She looked at me innocently and said, "Winona, it's going to hurt if you want the wound to be thoroughly disinfected."

I couldn't take it anymore, so I made up an excuse to send her away and had another nurse dress the wound.

When I told Julian about it, he immediately promised he would reprimand Milena.

Yet the very next day, he had my explicit photos printed onto gambling chips, all to vent Milena's anger.

I finally snapped. I shoved the two bodyguards aside and barged in.

The crash of the door silenced the private room instantly.

Every pair of eyes turned toward me.

Julian was seated on the couch in the center of the room, with Milena nestled against him.

I thought that when he saw the blood staining my dress, he might show even a trace of concern for me. After all, I had been injured because of him.

Instead, he merely frowned.

"Didn't they treat you yesterday? Why are you still bleeding? Go clean it up before you come back in. Don't ruin the vibe here."

One of his men picked up a chip stamped with my chest and tossed it casually in his hand.

"Don Vitale, just looking at photos isn't enough. Now that Winona is here, when do we get to have some fun?"

My entire body went rigid as I stared straight at Julian.

I remembered that a year ago, at a gathering just like this, a drunk newcomer had cracked a similar joke.

Julian had smashed a glass over his head on the spot and had him dragged out. The man's tongue was cut out.

Afterward, Julian had wrapped an arm around me and said, "No one gets to look at my woman."

This time, however, Julian looked completely indifferent.

He took a slow sip of his drink and said calmly, "If you win 100 million dollars, what's wrong with lending her to you for one night?"

My heart skipped a beat.

Milena covered her mouth in feigned surprise. "Winona, don't be mad. Julian's only doing this for your own good. He just wants you to get closer to everyone.

"After all, aside from being lucky, it seems like you don't really help Julian much anymore."

She reduced me to nothing with just a few words.

From the days when he was still a Picciotto hauling cargo at the dock, to now, when he sat at the top of the entire underworld, we had spent four years together, risking our lives through gunfire and bloodshed.

Yet to him, it was nothing more than a transaction that could be cashed out at any time.

My throat tightened, and not a single word of accusation could come out.

I turned to leave, intending to contact my Papa and Mamma, who were still abroad.

Just as I took my first step, Julian's voice rang out behind me.

"Stop. Who said you could leave?"

Three years later, Matteo and I had an adorable daughter, Adriana Sorrenti. She inherited my luck and grew up bright and lovable. She was a little blessing wherever she went.Papa had long since stepped back from the underworld. He cleaned up the family's operations and gradually handed everything over to Matteo. It turned out that I hadn't misjudged him.Matteo was gentle but not weak, and decisive but not ruthless. Under his leadership, the Lombardi family's businesses not only stabilized but flourished. As for me, I finally lived the quiet, peaceful life I had always wanted. One weekend, we took Adriana to a flea market. She was fascinated by the trinkets, and Matteo held her patiently while she pointed at everything in sight. When I turned away to buy her a scoop of gelato, my gaze caught on a cluttered stall.Among rusted tins lay a dirty, round plastic token. My eyes stung. Even though the image was nearly worn away, I recognized it instantly. It was an underground casi

A month later, Julian completely vanished from the Athrasian underworld. Some said his enemies weighed him down and dumped him into the sea. Others claimed he fled abroad. No one knew which version was true, but one thing was certain. He would never show his face again.Under Papa's arrangements, I went abroad to recover, far away from all the bloodshed and betrayal.Life overseas was slow and peaceful.I sat in the sun, read books, and took long walks along the shore. As my body healed, my mind followed. One day, I met Matteo Sorrenti. It happened in a cafe. He was an architect, gentle in both manner and speech. He was nothing like Julian. He treated me kindly without expectation, never pushing, never demanding. He was simply there, like a gentle ray of sunshine. Before I realized it, I began looking forward to seeing him. More surprisingly, I started believing again that sincerity still existed in this world.Half a year later, Matteo proposed. There was no extravagant dia

Even the guards standing nearby couldn't bear to watch anymore.I pushed the window open and looked down at him from above."Julian, do you remember what you said to me?"You said I was nothing more than a lucky toy, that without your protection I was worthless, and that I couldn't compare to Milena, not in any way. You even said you were going to hand me over to your buddies to play with."And now you're telling me you regret it?"Julian's face was drained of color. "I-I was fooled by Milena. She kept whispering things in my ear, saying you were plotting against me. I lost my head for a moment, and that's why I—"I cut him off, saying, "So, you believed her? I was with you for four years, Julian. I fought alongside you, risked my life, and poured everything I had into helping you climb to where you are. "But you chose to trust a woman you'd known for less than half a year over me. Is that what you call love?"He had nothing to say.I looked at him coldly and enunciated eve

Back at the Lombardi estate, doctors tended to my wounds immediately.Papa sat by the bed, staring at my pale face. His eyes were rimmed red. "I shouldn't have left you here alone. If I hadn't come back early…"He couldn't finish the sentence.I squeezed his hand. "Papa, I'm fine. I'm just a little tired."He took a deep breath, forcing his anger down. "I'll handle Julian. You rest. You don't need to worry about anything else."I nodded and closed my eyes. Yet, Julian's face kept surfacing in my mind. How had the man who once treated me with such care turned into this? Or had he been pretending from the very beginning?I couldn't understand, and I didn't want to think about it anymore.…I slept for two full days. When I woke up, Papa was sitting on the couch, reviewing some documents.Upon seeing that I was awake, he immediately stopped what he was doing. "How do you feel?""Much better," I said, pushing myself upright. "What about Julian?"Papa let out a short, humorless

The moment Papa saw me in that state, his face darkened instantly."Winona!"Leonardo recognized him at once—Tiago Lombardi, the Don who had ruled the underworld for decades. His grip on my hair loosened slightly, and fear flashed across his face."D-Don Lombardi…"Papa ignored him and strode toward me. His men sealed off the stairwell in an instant, trapping Julian's men inside.Leonardo's face turned pale with fear. Yet remembering Julian's orders, he forced himself to say, "Don Lombardi, Don Vitale has spoken. Ms. Lombardi cannot leave!"Not only did he refuse to release me, but he also pulled out a dagger and pressed it against my neck."Don't come any closer!" he warned. His voice was trembling. "Or one slip of my hand, and Ms. Lombardi's pretty face will be ruined."Papa halted abruptly."Don Vitale?"He let out a scoff. "A traitor who climbed his way up on a woman's back thinks he deserves to use that title in my presence?"Before the words fully settled, Papa moved.

Domenico dragged me out of that nauseating private room. His grip was rough and careless. As we passed Julian, I said quietly, "Julian, you'll regret this."At those words, he finally tore his gaze away from Milena's face, though he did not attempt to conceal the mockery in his eyes.He probably thought it was nothing more than a powerless curse, the last flare of my anger. What he didn't know was that every narrow escape he had survived over the years was due to my family's influence and my own uncanny luck.Domenico took me into the adjacent lounge, shut the door behind us, and locked it.Grinning lewdly, he closed in on me. The stench of smoke on him made my stomach churn."Don't be scared, sweetheart. I'll make sure you're well taken care of tonight."The moment his filthy hand reached toward me, I twisted sharply to the side. He hadn't expected resistance and ended up lunging at nothing.A second later, his expression turned vicious as he threw himself at me again. He gr
