Chapter 3

ผู้เขียน: Words to Life
The atmosphere in the casino was pushed into a frenzy by that insane prize, and the chips piled higher and higher as everyone went red-eyed with greed.

At that moment, the door was pushed open again, and a man with a black eyepatch over his left eye walked in.

It was Domenico Carbone, Julian's sworn enemy.

"Don Vitale, you're in a generous mood tonight, using your own woman as a prize."

Domenico's leering gaze stayed locked on me.

"I hear she's a walking lucky charm. Whoever touches her gets rich. My luck's been awful lately, so I'd like to borrow her to turn things around."

He pulled out a chair and sat down without hesitation, openly declaring his intent to win me.

Julian's expression darkened.

I had long heard that no woman taken by Domenico ever met a good end.

My Papa and Mamma weren't back yet, and I hadn't seen them. I couldn't die.

Grabbing my last chance, I clutched Julian's sleeve. My voice shook. "Julian, don't do this. Have you forgotten who carried you out of that shipping container at the dock?"

That had been the first time we met. He was being hunted by enemies, burning with fever, and covered in blood as he hid in a rusted container.

I, a pampered young lady, had carried him for nearly two miles through the freezing wind and begged my Papa to gather men to save him.

I thought that reminding him of that debt would awaken even a trace of his former affection.

Instead, he flung my hand away violently.

"You're talking about that incident?" he scoffed.

"Everything you've eaten, worn, and used these past few years came from me. I paid that debt off a long time ago. If your old man weren't the Don of the Lombardi family, would I have needed to put up with you all these years?

"Now that he isn't in Athrasia, who do you think would dare protect the Lombardi family's precious princess?"

So, that was the real reason behind his revenge.

Not only did he refuse to back down from Domenico's provocation, but he also raised the stakes.

"Whoever wins takes her. I won't say a word."

In the end, Domenico won.

Grinning and revealing a mouthful of yellowed teeth, he made his demand in front of everyone.

"Pretty little thing, take off your clothes and let me inspect the goods. Let's see if the real thing matches what's on the chips."

I froze where I stood.

Julian looked at me coldly. "A bet's a bet. Don't embarrass me on my own turf."

Seeing no way out of this, I reached for the first button on my chest with trembling hands.

At that moment, Milena suddenly cried out as if she had lost her footing, and the red wine in her hand splashed all over me.

The thin fabric of my dress was soaked through, and the curves of my body showed faintly beneath it.

Lewd remarks echoed around me.

"She's so slutty. She makes me want to do her right here."

"Her breasts look mouth-watering."

I stood under the spotlight, exposed to every pair of eyes there.

Milena hurriedly pulled out tissues. "I'm sorry, Winona. I didn't mean to. My hand slipped…"

Julian grabbed her hand and gently wiped the wine from her fingers. "Were you startled? Your hands are so cold."

Seeing that hurt my eyes. My dignity was ground into the dirt, yet all he cared about was whether his god-sister's fingers were cold.

Domenico had already lost patience. He yanked me into his arms. I struggled desperately, only to be held even tighter.

Using the last of my strength, I looked toward Julian and prayed that, for the sake of everything I had done for him and the love I had once given him, he would help me.

Instead, he turned away, pinched Milena's cheek, and murmured something teasing to her. My plea for help earned nothing but his cold indifference.

Three years later, Matteo and I had an adorable daughter, Adriana Sorrenti. She inherited my luck and grew up bright and lovable. She was a little blessing wherever she went.Papa had long since stepped back from the underworld. He cleaned up the family's operations and gradually handed everything over to Matteo. It turned out that I hadn't misjudged him.Matteo was gentle but not weak, and decisive but not ruthless. Under his leadership, the Lombardi family's businesses not only stabilized but flourished. As for me, I finally lived the quiet, peaceful life I had always wanted. One weekend, we took Adriana to a flea market. She was fascinated by the trinkets, and Matteo held her patiently while she pointed at everything in sight. When I turned away to buy her a scoop of gelato, my gaze caught on a cluttered stall.Among rusted tins lay a dirty, round plastic token. My eyes stung. Even though the image was nearly worn away, I recognized it instantly. It was an underground casi

A month later, Julian completely vanished from the Athrasian underworld. Some said his enemies weighed him down and dumped him into the sea. Others claimed he fled abroad. No one knew which version was true, but one thing was certain. He would never show his face again.Under Papa's arrangements, I went abroad to recover, far away from all the bloodshed and betrayal.Life overseas was slow and peaceful.I sat in the sun, read books, and took long walks along the shore. As my body healed, my mind followed. One day, I met Matteo Sorrenti. It happened in a cafe. He was an architect, gentle in both manner and speech. He was nothing like Julian. He treated me kindly without expectation, never pushing, never demanding. He was simply there, like a gentle ray of sunshine. Before I realized it, I began looking forward to seeing him. More surprisingly, I started believing again that sincerity still existed in this world.Half a year later, Matteo proposed. There was no extravagant dia

Even the guards standing nearby couldn't bear to watch anymore.I pushed the window open and looked down at him from above."Julian, do you remember what you said to me?"You said I was nothing more than a lucky toy, that without your protection I was worthless, and that I couldn't compare to Milena, not in any way. You even said you were going to hand me over to your buddies to play with."And now you're telling me you regret it?"Julian's face was drained of color. "I-I was fooled by Milena. She kept whispering things in my ear, saying you were plotting against me. I lost my head for a moment, and that's why I—"I cut him off, saying, "So, you believed her? I was with you for four years, Julian. I fought alongside you, risked my life, and poured everything I had into helping you climb to where you are. "But you chose to trust a woman you'd known for less than half a year over me. Is that what you call love?"He had nothing to say.I looked at him coldly and enunciated eve

Back at the Lombardi estate, doctors tended to my wounds immediately.Papa sat by the bed, staring at my pale face. His eyes were rimmed red. "I shouldn't have left you here alone. If I hadn't come back early…"He couldn't finish the sentence.I squeezed his hand. "Papa, I'm fine. I'm just a little tired."He took a deep breath, forcing his anger down. "I'll handle Julian. You rest. You don't need to worry about anything else."I nodded and closed my eyes. Yet, Julian's face kept surfacing in my mind. How had the man who once treated me with such care turned into this? Or had he been pretending from the very beginning?I couldn't understand, and I didn't want to think about it anymore.…I slept for two full days. When I woke up, Papa was sitting on the couch, reviewing some documents.Upon seeing that I was awake, he immediately stopped what he was doing. "How do you feel?""Much better," I said, pushing myself upright. "What about Julian?"Papa let out a short, humorless

The moment Papa saw me in that state, his face darkened instantly."Winona!"Leonardo recognized him at once—Tiago Lombardi, the Don who had ruled the underworld for decades. His grip on my hair loosened slightly, and fear flashed across his face."D-Don Lombardi…"Papa ignored him and strode toward me. His men sealed off the stairwell in an instant, trapping Julian's men inside.Leonardo's face turned pale with fear. Yet remembering Julian's orders, he forced himself to say, "Don Lombardi, Don Vitale has spoken. Ms. Lombardi cannot leave!"Not only did he refuse to release me, but he also pulled out a dagger and pressed it against my neck."Don't come any closer!" he warned. His voice was trembling. "Or one slip of my hand, and Ms. Lombardi's pretty face will be ruined."Papa halted abruptly."Don Vitale?"He let out a scoff. "A traitor who climbed his way up on a woman's back thinks he deserves to use that title in my presence?"Before the words fully settled, Papa moved.

Domenico dragged me out of that nauseating private room. His grip was rough and careless. As we passed Julian, I said quietly, "Julian, you'll regret this."At those words, he finally tore his gaze away from Milena's face, though he did not attempt to conceal the mockery in his eyes.He probably thought it was nothing more than a powerless curse, the last flare of my anger. What he didn't know was that every narrow escape he had survived over the years was due to my family's influence and my own uncanny luck.Domenico took me into the adjacent lounge, shut the door behind us, and locked it.Grinning lewdly, he closed in on me. The stench of smoke on him made my stomach churn."Don't be scared, sweetheart. I'll make sure you're well taken care of tonight."The moment his filthy hand reached toward me, I twisted sharply to the side. He hadn't expected resistance and ended up lunging at nothing.A second later, his expression turned vicious as he threw himself at me again. He gr
