Chapter 5

ผู้เขียน: Eirlys
"Maeve? Are you saying you're..."

"Shoot her!"

Jace's roar cut off Alaric's question.

A second later, a sharp gunshot rang out. A silver-laced tranquilizer dart pierced my shoulder.

The sharp pain made me lose my grip and fall to the floor.

I realized then that the moment I walked in, Jace had ordered snipers to aim at me, ready to blow his own sister's head off at any second.

Catching my gaze, Jace carefully shielded Stella behind him, walked up to me, and slapped me hard across the face without a second thought.

My head snapped to the side, ears ringing.

"What did Stella ever do to you? You've hurt her so many times and she took it, but you're so petty you can't stand her. Now you want to kill her? And pretending to be Mom? Anna, you make me sick!"

Jace's eyes were full of disgust.

Stella peeked out from behind him, raising an eyebrow smugly.

She mouthed: I told you, bringing up your mom wouldn't work.

I ignored her taunt, spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, and looked up at Jace.

"Kidnapping? Are you blind or just stupid?"

When I first heard about it, I knew something was wrong.

For the past ten years, the pack's core power had been stable, crushing any rogues or rivals. There was no way rogues could break into our territory and kidnap the Alpha's daughter.

"Stella staged the whole thing just to make you feel sorry for her!"

Jace's face didn't change. He just looked disappointed.

"Still making excuses."

"I know Stella better than anyone. She's sweet and kind. She would never do something like that!"

Alaric chimed in. "Exactly."

"Anna, stop shifting the blame. How did your mother and I end up with a daughter like you?"

Looking at Jace and Alaric defending Stella unconditionally, I found it utterly absurd.

I wiped away a tear from laughing and asked softly, "Why do this? Anna is your real sister."

I really didn't understand.

When they were little, Jace was so protective of her.

When Anna made a mistake, he would hide her behind him, puff out his chest, and say to punish him instead.

When she cried, he would hold her on his lap and clumsily hum soft lullabies.

That was why I felt safe leaving ten-year-old Anna behind to guard the Sanctuary.

I thought with her father, brother, and mate protecting her, she would be safe and happy.

But they'd rather believe a stray orphan than their own flesh and blood.

Jace pursed his lips, about to speak, but Alaric's voice rang out.

"Because Stella is my biological daughter, too."

  • They Killed My Daughter. I’ll Kill Their Pack   Chapter 11

"No!""Don't!""Let go of the core!""Maeve, I'm begging you, let it go! Don't touch it!"No matter how much Alaric and the Magus begged, I reached out, grabbed the blue orb of light, and crushed it piece by piece. As the last bit of blue faded, I looked at their despairing faces and chuckled. "I've wanted to do this for a while. If I just walked away, the core would still be here, and your pack would survive for decades.""But why should that happen? Why should you get to stay on your high horse as Alpha after killing my daughter and slaughtering my people?""I want you to watch your pack burn. I want you to become a stray dog!"Alaric roared:"Maeve, don't forget Jace is your son too! If I become a stray, he goes down with me! He'll die with the pack..."I cut him off calmly."Then let him die. That's his fate. The moment he found out Stella was your bastard daughter and still chose to stand with you and hurt Anna, he stopped being my son."Alaric choked. He didn't expect me to be so

It had only been half a day, but re-entering the Sanctuary felt like a lifetime had passed. The Magus somehow managed to open a narrow passage through the collapsed rubble. After a few steps, it opened up again.I looked at Alaric walking beside me and said flatly, "Aren't you afraid I'll just kill you? You know I can."Alaric smiled confidently."If you wanted to kill me, you would have done it already. Maeve, we've been mates for years. I know you as well as I know myself."I didn't say anything. I stopped next to Anna's body. She lay quietly in the center of the magic circle, looking like she was asleep.Seeing her, Alaric actually looked a bit sad.He stayed quiet for a long time, then sighed."I wasn't a good father. I thought Stella and Anna were just playing silly girls' games. I never thought she'd go this far.""Maeve, I really know I was wrong. When this is all over, let's have another daughter. I promise I'll treat her like a princess."What a hypocritical, sickening speech.

"Maeve, the culprit is dead. Now we can talk."Alaric waved his hand like he had just squashed a bug. You couldn't even tell he had just killed the daughter he treasured fifteen minutes ago.I never knew he was so good at changing faces."Talk about what? Do you think I don't know you all enabled Stella?"I sneered.Alaric admitted it without hesitation."It's my fault. I apologize. I'll strip Wyatt of everything and kick him out of the pack. As for our son, you can punish him however you want. Maeve, is that enough?"I shook my head, my voice dripping with deadly intent."Not enough."Alaric froze for a second, then actually laughed."Then what do you want?""Stop messing around! Do you want Jace and me to pay with our lives?"Jace looked at me nervously, panic in his eyes."Mom, I'm sorry. I know I was wrong. Please forgive me this once. I really didn't mean to. If I knew Stella was going to kill Anna, I..."He slapped his own face as he spoke, soon breaking down in tears. But I knew

Alaric's smile froze. He looked at the battered Magus, then at me.He finally realized that from the very beginning, I hadn't shown a single ounce of fear.Feeling Alaric's stare, I casually dug the silver dart out of my right shoulder and said calmly, "Still want to shoot, Alaric?"The wound on my shoulder, which had been bleeding heavily, healed visibly in a flash of golden light, as if I had never been hurt. The hall was dead silent. The only sound was the bloody dart hitting the floor as I tossed it away. And my footsteps as I walked forward. As I moved, the guns tracked me, but no one dared to pull the trigger."Stop! Stop right there!"A massive, invisible pressure almost crushed Alaric. He stood up, his smug face completely wiped of any smile. He stared at me and growled, "Maeve, it really is you! Where's Anna? I underestimated that stupid girl. She actually went to the Sanctuary to find..."I cut him off sharply, speaking softly. "Anna is dead. She never knew I was alive, nor d

Alaric threw his head back and laughed."Just set a few fires, caused a few explosions, that's all.""Your family's power is too unpredictable. I couldn't let other packs get their hands on that treasure.""So, destroying it was the best option."I suddenly found it hard to breathe."Why... why?""How could you do that?! My people were innocent!"He said it like it was obvious. "Since your mother already stabilized the core and secured the Red Moon Pack's future for a century, I obviously couldn't let anyone else from the Astolpho family live.""How could I let anyone have power over the Alpha?""Besides," he sneered, "they all saw me begging on my knees back then. So they all had to die."What an ungrateful bastard!Murderous rage boiled in my chest.Alaric continued, "Pretending to be your mother was a clever trick, but you're still too immature. You barged right into the estate just to pick a fight with Stella.""If you had gone straight to the Sanctuary and brought your mother out,

Stella's eyes instantly turned red.She choked out, "Father," and threw herself at him.Alaric patted her back tenderly and wiped her tears. "You've suffered so much all these years."Then, he looked at me darkly."Since you asked why, I'll tell you. Because of your mother's Astolpho family, Stella had to be raised outside. Even after your mother left, Stella could only enter the estate as an adopted daughter.""You're both my daughters, but you lived in luxury, called a princess by everyone, while Stella couldn't even call me 'Dad' in public. How is that not you and your mother owing her?"Seeing Alaric looking down at me like that, I had never felt he was such a stranger.I used to think he had just changed over the last ten years, but now I realized I probably never knew who he really was."You were the one who swore to love only me for the rest of your life," I said softly.I never planned to take Alaric as my mate. The Astolpho bloodline was both a treasure and a ticking time bomb
