Chapter 4

ผู้เขียน: Cocojam
Next came the family's annual high-society charity gala.

Usually, it was just a bullshit pageant for laundering money and trading favors.

Tonight, the grand ballroom of The Metropol felt more like a courtroom, and I was on public trial.

I stood near the champagne tower, watching as familiar faces approached me with expressions I couldn't quite read.

The air in the room had shifted. The pressure had dropped, like right before a storm.

"Seraphina, darling," the wife of an old-school capo glided over, her smile too bright, her eyes avoiding mine. "Are you holding up?"

"I'm perfectly fine. Why wouldn't I be?"

She exchanged a look with her husband, who appeared at her side with the practiced timing of a man used to awkward conversations.

"We just wanted you to know that we... we understand this must be very difficult. What's been happening. With Marcello. We all saw the news on the dark web, and we want you to know you have our absolute support."

The news on the dark web.

It hit me like a punch to the gut.

They all knew about the livestream.

Every single person in this ballroom had privately watched my husband humiliate me in our bed.

I forced my expression to remain placid. Inside, something was cracking.

"Thank you for your concern, but I assure you, everything is fine."

The woman's laugh was strained. "Oh, my dear. You don't have to pretend with us. What that man did to you... in front of all those thugs... it's just monstrous."

I made an excuse and walked away, heading for the restroom, but the toxic pity followed me through the crowd.

Conversations stopped as I passed.

Eyes followed me, a mix of pity and barely concealed curiosity.

In the powder room, I gripped the marble countertop, staring at my reflection.

My makeup was perfect. My posture was flawless. But I could see what they all saw: a hollowed-out woman, publicly destroyed.

When I returned to the ballroom, the whispers had become more brazen.

"Poor thing," I heard an arms dealer's wife murmur to her friend. "She always seemed so fragile. She was never going to be able to hold on to a man like Marcello. I guess we shouldn't be surprised. Did you see the stats on that cartel girl? Four million new followers overnight. Marcello sure knows how to pick them."

The men were worse.

There was a new, predatory hunger in their eyes.

"Seraphina." Thomas, a casino magnate known for preying on his soldiers' wives, slid up next to me, his smile aggressive. "You look absolutely radiant tonight."

I'd known Thomas for years.

He was one of Marcello's card-playing buddies. A handsy, notorious sleazebag.

Tonight, his usual flirtations had a raw, vulgar edge.

"Thank you, Thomas."

"You know, if you ever need someone to talk to... someone who understands the pressures of these high-profile marriages..."

His rough fingers brushed against the small of my back, his cheap cigar scent lingering. "I'm always available."

The implication was crystal clear.

In their minds, Marcello's betrayal had made me unclaimed property. A desperate, easy lay. The public entertainment they'd seen on the dark web.

I made an excuse, slipped out of the ballroom, and fled to my car, my hands shaking as I fumbled for the keys.

On the drive home, the city lights blurred. The rage inside me had burned down to cold, hard ash.

Back in my studio, I calmly unrolled a massive map of the North American Mafia territories.

It was a gift from my father on my eighteenth birthday. It had seen generations of bloody power shifts.

Tonight, it would serve its true purpose.

There was no time for sentiment. I opened a drawer and began pinning things to the map: laundered ledgers, photos of rival crews, surveillance reports on Marcello's key men.

This was never some pathetic domestic drama. This was a mob war.

The coordinates representing Marcello's faction were marked with thick, bloody X's.

Chloe's smuggling routes were re-assigned to my clean-up crews.

After laying out every node of my counter-attack, my phone buzzed.

A text from Marcello: "Deal at the docks tonight. Don't wait up."

I almost laughed.

He thought I was at home, crying into a pillow, shattered by the humiliation at the party.

He had no idea I was right here, using the skills my father taught me to plot the complete annihilation of his family.

Three hours later, I heard his key in the front door.

His footsteps were heavy. Unsteady.

He'd been drinking. Probably celebrating with his friends how successfully he'd shamed me again.

I quickly threw a canvas over the map, then switched my laptop to an image of a religious painting I was "restoring."

When he appeared in the doorway, I looked up, my face a perfect mask of hurt, yet devoted, love. "How did your deal go?" I asked softly.

"Productive," he said, loosening his tie.

I could smell the faint scent of an expensive perfume that wasn't mine. "Did you have a good time at the gala?"

"It was lovely," I lied without blinking. "Everyone was asking about you."

A sharp grin spread across his face. "I'm sure they were."

After he went upstairs, I pulled the canvas off the map and studied it coldly.

Marcello thought he'd succeeded in reducing me to a pathetic public spectacle.

He was about to learn that the deadliest killer is often the one sleeping next to you.

"Tear that painting down. It disgusts me."I leaned back in the large leather chair, my voice devoid of all warmth. Two armed Cleaners stepped forward.Without hesitation, they ripped the painting of the suffering Madonna—a symbol of meekness and pity—from the wall.It had been Marcello's favorite. He used to say that my quiet submission was as perfect as the woman in the painting. The heavy frame slammed onto the marble floor.Glass shattered with a piercing crack. The wall slowly rotated.A massive crest was revealed in the morning light. The blood-red and black crown of the Capo dei capi—the boss of all bosses. My father's true family crest. It had been hidden in this room for eighteen long months.Today, it finally saw the light of day again.I stood up and straightened the lapels of my dark, custom-tailored suit.No flowing skirts. No frilly lace. No pathetic decorations designed to please a man. This was my armor. The door opened on time.Silas walked in, his boots crunching on t

"NO! Sera! Please don't put me in there!"The 3 a.m. wind whipped off the East River, cutting like a knife across the abandoned Brooklyn pier.Marcello, like a dog with a broken spine, clawed at the rough concrete floor. His fingernails bent back and split, leaving ten bloody streaks in his wake. Two massive Cleaners grabbed him like a sack of garbage and dragged him to a large, classic Mafia-style oil drum.It was already half-full of wet cement. The sharp, chemical smell mixed with the cold stench of the river water made Marcello piss himself.A dark, foul-smelling stain spread down his expensive trousers.Four high-definition cameras were already in position, their lenses aimed coldly at him.The setup was far more professional than the one he'd used in our bedroom.I stood in the shadows, just outside the glare of the floodlights, and watched him break."Silas. Begin," I said calmly.Silas, at the control console, hit a key.The dark web link with the skull icon was reactivated.Th

The family estate's deepest, darkest private cell. The cold air was thick with the smell of blood and sewage. The clanking of heavy chains echoed with a desperate, animal-like struggle."Let me go! I'm your Boss! Sera! Let me see you!"Marcello's raw-throated screams bounced off the empty hallways.I walked down the blood-stained steps, the heels of my custom shoes clicking on the concrete.Silas opened the rusted iron door for me.The single, swinging bulb in the cell was blinding.Marcello was chained to the damp wall. The once-untouchable Don. The man who had laughed at me for the whole world to see.The man who had fucked his mistress on our marriage bed.Now he was in rags, covered in his own filth and dried blood. His mind was completely broken. He looked up at the sound of the door. When he saw me, a wild joy erupted in his bloodshot eyes."Sera! My wife! You finally came!"He lunged forward, the chains digging into the wall, his wrists raw and bloody. He still dared to call me

"Donna, I was wrong! It was just a misunderstanding!"Thomas's scream tore through the dead silence of the ballroom. This was the same casino magnate who had put his hands on me at the last gala. The same man who'd made a slimy pass at me.Now, he was on his knees at the edge of the red carpet, slamming his head against the floor like a dog.His forehead was split open, blood smearing the marble.Silas stood beside him, expressionless, holding a blood-drenched antique Sicilian stiletto. The same hand Thomas had put on my waist was now wrapped in a bloody bandage.Silas had just taken two of his fingers as an "appetizer."The severed digits had been kicked into a corner like trash."Shh," I said, seated on the high-backed chair in the center of the room, gently swirling the red wine in my glass. "You're being too loud, Thomas."Silas's wrist flickered. The hilt of the dagger slammed into Thomas's mouth. The scream stopped, replaced by a muffled whimper as several teeth clattered to the

The sound of choked sobbing filled the air."I never knew it would go this far. You have to believe me. I'm a victim, too."On the massive screen in my studio, Chloe's once-perfect face was swollen and puffy. She was hiding in a cheap, mildew-scented motel room near the Mexican border. The walls were peeling. The light was dim.The once-powerful cartel princess was now covered in filth. Her perfect blonde hair was matted and greasy. After escaping the casino, she probably wished she'd died in there. In one day, her father's cartel, its funds completely cut off, had been devoured by rivals. Her family was gone. Her bank account was emptier than her head. The cops and the mob were both hunting her.But the idiot was still dreaming of a comeback. She was live-streaming from a shattered burner phone."Marcello lied to me!" Chloe wailed at the camera, cheap mascara running down her face. "He told me he and his wife were over! He said she was a crazy bitch! I was just a girl, blinded by love

BAM! Marcello's fist slammed down on the long table, knocking over a glass of whiskey."Who betrayed me? Somebody talk!" his roar echoed through the safe house's panic room.Eight of his remaining Capos sat around the table, staring at each other. The air was thick with suspicion."Boss, they were too fast," a bald Capo who ran the Queens operation said, his voice trembling around his cigar. "Three main docks, hundreds of millions in cash. Gone. In one night. This wasn't an outside job. It has to be a rat.""Then find me the rat!" Marcello's eyes were wild, like a cornered dog's. "I want him skinned alive! I want his bones broken, one by one, and stuffed in a drum in the East River!"He paced back and forth, his chest heaving."When I find who's behind this, I will make them beg for death," he seethed.Just then, a loud, dull thud came from outside. The sound of a heavy boot kicking in a lock.Followed by a loud CRASH!The door was kicked open, slamming against the wall. The eight Capo
