Chapter 4

Author: Fox C
The next morning, I was in a project meeting when calls from the Cavinas started coming in one after another.

The first problem was the customs declaration.

Jack had reused last year's codes and declared the controlled materials as normal industrial solvents. As soon as the declaration was submitted, customs flagged it and moved the entire shipment to Inspection Warehouse Three.

He immediately blamed the subordinate who had filed the declaration.

The man pulled out a confirmation slip with Jack'

  • They Stole My Seat, So I Took Everything   Chapter 8

After the Cavinas lost their right to operate at the port, the family's money dried up within a month.Three months later, the court officially ended my marriage to Enzo. The evidence of his affair, his plan to remove me, and the fake evidence he had created were more than enough. But this time, I had nothing to do with what happened to any of them. They all paid for their own choices.Jack lost his position in the Five Families because of the false declarations, fake cargo documents, and port money he had secretly taken over the years. All the enemies he had made quickly came after him, and this time, no one stayed up all night trying to save him.James had hidden risks from the bank and taken money that wasn't his. Everything he owned was seized. He used to think refinancing only took a phone call. In the end, one contract clause he had never bothered to read cost him everything.Bruno was banned from the union for life. Without workers, a dock, or the Cavina Family behind him, even

After the hearing, I didn't return to the Cavina compound.Early the next morning—three days after they forced me off the family council—Enzo and every elder who had voted for the motion were waiting outside Moretti headquarters. The moment I walked out, Enzo dropped to his knees.Jack, James, Bruno, and every elder who had sat around that table and voted in favor followed him down.Three days earlier, they had sat across from me and used their votes to force me off the council. Now they were kneeling before me, begging the “outsider who did nothing but steal everyone else’s credit” to save them. The ones I hadn't named at the hearing hurried to remind me of all the times I had helped them. One brought up the territory I had won back for him and claimed that we "went way back." Another mentioned the medical care I had arranged for his family and said I had "always had a soft heart."They had once treated everything I did for them as if it meant nothing. Now that they were in trouble, t

On the day of the hearing, almost everyone in the Cavinas was there. The port authority had called the emergency hearing. Representatives from the bank, the union, and the Five Families were also there to decide who was responsible and whether the Cavinas would be allowed to keep operating at the port.Enzo sat at the head of the table, while Vivian stood behind him as the new council secretary.Luca accused me in front of everyone of leaking the shipping route and putting false declaration codes in the handover files on purpose.Jack, James, and Bruno spoke against me one after another."Emily always kept the important work to herself. We had no way of knowing what she had secretly changed.""She used the Medici name to make the bank and the union do what she wanted. Then she deliberately took away her connections to get revenge on the Cavinas.""Those deals always belonged to the family. She just took credit for everyone else's work."Vivian even gave the same story to the media.Wit

Enzo didn't come to beg me right away.He locked himself in the council chamber and listened as the elders blamed one another.Jack said James hadn't released the money in time, so he had no money to pay off customs.James said Bruno had caused the union to stop working, so the bank decided the project was out of control.Bruno insisted that Luca had given them bad information, which was why they were caught by the surprise inspection.Luca sat in the farthest corner, his face growing paler by the minute. They argued for two hours and still couldn't come up with a single solution. Finally, Jack lowered his voice."Ask Emily to come back. She can fix this."Enzo looked at him coldly."Ask her back and give her back the council seat and her share too?"Then what kind of Don would that make me?"Jack fell silent. That was when I finally heard what Enzo really thought, thanks to a recording Matteo sent me.A guard inside the room had secretly recorded the meeting for me.Two years ago, his

You told me to ignore it."Jack tore the slip to pieces right there."Emily must have put the wrong codes in the files on purpose!"The second problem was the union. The workers Bruno found at the last minute weren't certified to handle dangerous materials. During loading, one of them knocked over a crate. The port union immediately ordered everyone to stop working because Cavina had broken its safety agreement.Bruno went t

As I walked out of the office, I got a call from Matteo Moretti, the head of the Moretti Family."I hear the Cavinas just lost their best Donna.""Word travels fast.""There are no secrets at the port." Matteo chuckled. "Eight o'clock tonight. I'll be waiting for you at the club."I didn't agree to join the Moretti Family right away.Over the years, too many people had tried to get close to me because of the Medici name.I had no interest in leaving one family that wanted to use me only to join another that would do the same thing. That evening, Matteo slid a port expansion plan across the table. His family had put the project aside six months ago."The board says the risk is too high. What do you think?"His chief advisor was the first to laugh."Of course Ms. Medici will say we can do it. With her family name, the banks and the port will always show her some respect."I didn't argue with him. I just turned to the financing page.It took me only ten minutes to find that the same cargo
