Chapter 2

Penulis: Melon No.23
Lilian was sprawled on the ground, a bodyguard's grip leaving bloody marks on her pale face. She looked up at me with a sneer.

"Oh, Nancy, being Ms. Yates must feel so stifling, huh? Everyone is walking all over you, and here you are, still playing the graceful lady?"

I fixed my gaze on Alora's face and let out a laugh, my eyes glinting with an icy fury.

In a flash, I headbutted her right on the nose.

She let out a sharp cry, her face twisting in agony as she clutched at her bleeding, freshly done nose job.

I whipped out a baton from my bag and swung it hard, landing a blow right between the legs of the bodyguard behind me.

Spinning around, I zapped another guard on the knee with my stun baton.

Before Alora could even catch her breath, I had her by the collar.

With a solid bang, I slammed her against the fire hose reel on the wall.

"Think you can just take my stuff?"

I slapped her hard across the face, once, twice, leaving her reeling, her surgically altered face warping under the impact.

"You lowlife, you dare to hit me?!"

Alora's face was a twisted mess of purple and red as she tried to fight back.

I kicked her in the gut and slapped her again for good measure. "Yeah, I'm hitting you!"

I pinned her hands behind her back with one hand and yanked her hair with the other, pulling her head back.

The Collins Group bodyguards rushed over, ready to jump me, but they held back, cursing, because I had Alora in my grip.

"You think you can hit Ms. Warren and get away with it? You're just itching to die!"

Lilian managed to break free from the bodyguards, grabbed a can of pepper spray, and aimed it at the two bodyguards.

"Hit her harder!" she yelled out to me in support. "Show her who's in charge in Riverton City!

"You think you can mess with me? I'll make you regret it big time!"

Alora's screams pierced the air as her hair was yanked, her hands flailing wildly while trying to grab me.

"Finish her off! A cool seven hundred fifty thousand dollars to whoever takes her down first!"

Out of nowhere, the Collins family's bodyguards swarmed me like a pack of wolves.

Just like that, I was being choked from behind, my hair in someone's iron grip.

Amid the mayhem, a cowardly kick landed on my waist.

I lost my grip on Alora, and the bodyguards slammed me to the ground in no time.

Alora strutted over, her high heels becoming weapons as they came crashing down on my back, again and again.

"Think you've got nine lives? Today, you'll meet the Grim Reaper himself!"

A hot rush of blood surged to my chest, and I coughed up blood. I was about to fight back when police sirens cut through the chaos.

"Freeze!"

Two cops stepped out, their commanding presence quieting the storm.

The taller cop, seeing Alora's blood-stained face, looked shocked.

"Ms. Alora? What on earth happened?"

The shorter cop practically tripped over himself to offer Alora a chair.

Sitting with a smug look, Alora pointed straight at Lilian and me. "Mr. Lewis! They stole my stuff and beat up people! Look at my bodyguards, all beaten up by them!

"Take them in, now!"

The tall cop did not hesitate, ignoring our injuries, and whipped out his handcuffs.

"Causing trouble in Riverton City and attacking Mrs. Collins? You're coming with us to the station!"

Lilian's frown deepened, a storm brewing in her eyes.

"Is there no justice anymore? They're the ones who threw the first punch!"

Leaving Riverton City in the dust, Lilian and I hopped on a chopper straight to Springfield Island. She nursed her champagne as she gently touched the fresh skin on her face, grumbling about Riverton's ironclad rules.I swirled my wine, toasting to our escape from the mess.As for Eric? I could not care less what happened to him.Lilian stood on the stage at the Pacific Rim Economic Forum, her smile beaming as she proudly announced the takeover of the Collins family's patent shares. In the audience, several executives who had once supported the Collins family clutched their chests, frantically popping heart pills into their mouths.Lilian always played for keeps; anyone who crossed her would pay dearly.Back in the States, I was ready to step up and lead the Yates family business. The Yates family had never really put their roots down in Riverton City, so pulling out of the Collins' deal was no big deal.Dad had called me home on purpose. He looked at my face, still the talk of

Eric barely moved a muscle when Lilian's gaze pinned him in place."Thinking of stepping in?"Alright, take ten hits from the stun gun for her. Aim for where they hit me. Mess up even once, and it's ten more for you."Eric stood rooted to the spot, his face drained of color. It was not until he looked down that he saw the black crest of the Stewart family under Lilian's collarbone, a symbol that even the toughest thugs in Riverton City would bow down to: the notorious King of Hell in the flesh.Lilian's guards were quick on their feet, grabbing electric batons. One cop, shivering with fear, did not move fast enough and got his jaw knocked out of place. In the blink of an eye, his name was on the police department's hit list."So, you like zapping people, do you?" Lilian snatched the baton and cranked up the juice. The jolts sent him screaming and writhing on the ground, veins popping, too pained to even cry out.Lilian jabbed the baton into the tall cop's face. "Your turn."Di

"Forget it. You don't need to know."I shot a look at Alora, who was shivering behind him. "This piece of work? You're pampering a homewrecker with no brains? Didn't realize you'd go for cheap."You let your goons push people around. Ever think back to your ramen days, when each day felt like a year?"You used to hate people who abused their power. Now you're just watching the cops twist the truth, not lifting a finger because you've got a fat wallet."I stared Eric down, my gaze ice-cold."Eric, your belief that money gives you the right to do whatever you please is absolutely revolting."With a swift motion, I slid off my wedding ring and tossed it at Eric's feet. "We're getting a divorce!"I spun to face Ronald. "Tell the Yates family to cut off every penny to the Collins family, now. I expect to see Collins Group's crash and burn on the front page of Stormline Daily tomorrow."Ronald whipped out his phone, putting it on speaker to relay my command.Eric, frantic, dove for

The tall cop and his shorter partner were both pale. Their eyes widened, bodies shaking like leaves in a storm, barely able to stand.Just then, an armored truck rolled up, and the president of Crownwell Bank stepped out, tipping his hat to Ronald. "The 1.5 million dollars in cash the Yates family asked for is all set in the back.""Mr. Collins."Ronald spun to face Eric. "Both the Yates and the Stewart families have come through with the 1.5 million dollars. Nonetheless…"Ronald turned to me and said, "The piece Ms. Yates bought that got wrecked? That was Mrs. Yates' lost family heirloom, worth a cool 7.5 million bucks."Ms. Stewart's purse is one of those super rare global editions. The damage? That's gonna cost 3 million to settle."And let's not forget their medical bills, the cash for their emotional trauma, and the dough for their wasted time, all adding up to another 7.5 million."So, are you gonna pay this out of your own pocket, or is the Collins family's company footin

"You're just buying time," said the taller cop, snapping the handcuffs open with a click. His shorter partner moved in, reaching for my wrist."We don't have all day. Don't make us get tough."Lilian stepped in front of me, her voice steady, "1.5 million dollars? That's pocket change for me. Just wait; you'll get every last dime."The cops guffawed at this. "Seriously? Did you sell yourself to some guy to be his sugar baby? Big words, lady. Hope you're not left hanging for cash that'll never show!"Alora's laughter was even louder. "Riverton City, the Stewarts, the Yates? You're killing me! Begging me now? I might just spot you some change for your funeral!"The bodyguards laughed along, the street echoing with their sneers. The shorter cop shoved Lilian, annoyed. "Can't even save yourself, and you're still trying to play the big shot? Hand it over!"However, as his hand grazed Lilian's wrist, a thunderous roar filled the sky, and a cloud of dust billowed up from the ground.Li

A jolt from his stun gun hit me under the chin, and my head felt like it was on fire. The can tipped, spilling trash all over me.Alora came over, her nose wrinkled in disgust. She slipped on a glove and grabbed my face, her nails digging in and leaving a trail of blood. Then, out of nowhere, the street was filled with the sound of cars slamming on their brakes.Eric hurried down the stairs, his eyes quickly taking in the mess before he rushed to Alora's side. He gently touched her shoulder, his voice dripping with concern."Alora, what's going on? Who did this to you?"Tears streamed down Alora's face as she looked up at him, he
