I was now standing on the high bridge, with a stream of powerful rivers below.

Many people walked past me, each going about their business.

I could hear their voices.

Not that I cared anyway.

“She can’t jump. Have you ever seen anyone jump into the river? I bet she’s just doing this to get attention.”

“And what if she does? We should try to stop her.”

“And why should we care? I don’t give a damn if she dies or not. She should have just hanged herself and been done with it.”

The world was cruel to me, even when I wanted to kill myself.

My heart was beating faster than usual. I knew what I was doing, but it was the only option for a woman who had lost everything.

Her home, her husband, and even the family she thought was on her side.

In a flash, I jumped.

The air filled my lungs as I gasped, but it was too late. I fell into the sea and hit my head against a rock. The current was so strong that I couldn’t fight for my life.

Gbmm! Gbmm!

That was the only sound I heard before I blacked out.

Hell. Heaven.

I wasn’t sure if they were myths, but I wished to wake up in a better life.

[After three months]

I tried to open my heavy eyelids. The sunlight piercing harshly into the room hit my eyes, and I had to shield my face.

I turned on the soft and comfortable bed, and my eyes flew open. “Where am I?” I blurted out.

“She’s awake! Oh my God!”

A maid sitting beside me screamed, scaring me half to death.

She ran out of the room like a madwoman and slammed the door, making me jump on the bed.

I looked around and saw that I was in an even more furnished and luxurious room.

I tried to remember how I got there, but my head hurt so badly that I groaned in pain.

The last thing I remembered was trying to kill myself—but why?

My heart started beating faster, just like that night, at the mere thought of having tried to end my life.

But I couldn’t remember why I did it.

Why I had to jump twenty meters from the city’s highest bridge into a river known to swallow everything thrown into it.

A doctor walked in with a stethoscope around his neck.

“You’re going to be fine, Mrs. Hawkins,” he said with a smile.

“What did you just call me?” I asked, staring at the man whose face wore a gentle smile.

“Am I married?”

“Of course, your husband made sure we took good care of you while he’s away on a business trip. He should be back any moment now.”

I looked at the maid who had run out earlier and then back at the doctor’s face.

“May I?” he said, reaching for my wrist. “Ah! You’re finally awake and you’re…”

He was about to finish his sentence when the door suddenly swung open, and my so-called husband rushed in to embrace me.

“I can’t believe you’re awake. I came running the moment I heard,” he said, holding me tightly in his arms.

He held me even tighter, and in a flash, his lips pressed against mine.

" Do you think this is going to work?" Sheila asked staring at her father. Penelope stared at James for quite a while, " How can you sign away years of labour? Are you nuts?!" she yelled " He has us in his palms. Hawkins knows everything, down to the last bank accounts." he replied Sheila stared at the television. " Do you think she is still alive?" Penelope shakes her head, " After all this while, why does that bitch need to come at us now!" James relaxed into the chair he sat on. His gaze slightly shows he understands the situation. " Because she has been boxed into a corner. She took everything maltreatment without complaining hoping things were going to get better and now, she is back to give everything she had endured in ten fold." Gerald said nothing but simply stared at the image of the daughter he loathed. " When I find her.." he said with his hands clenched. " I am going to squeeze the life out of her." James smirked. "There is a difference, Mr Gerald. if y

Dennis walked into the room with a triumphant smile on his face. "I told you this was going to be easy," he said, falling to the sofa close to him."No, Dennis. I know my family. They aren't going to back down. James is going to try and counterattack or, at the worst, trust something stupid. He always does."Dennis's brow furrowed. "Like the gun he brought out today?" "He brought a gun?" I asked, lifting my gaze from the file.A man like him is dubious. Besides, I can't wait to hear that your sister is going to leave him," Dennis replied. I shook my head and tilted it backwards. "You still don't know my family, Dennis. They are the weirdest human beings I have ever known. Sheila is never going to let go of James. She sees him as a trophy." I saidI looked at the file, and I was pleased. I had seventy percent of everything back. They were in my name, but that was not enough. I want my family to suffer the same fate that I have. I want my father to fall at my feet and apologize, t

I simply sat on the comfort chair with a drink in my hand. Watching James and my sister try and save the little they had was fun. I have never seen her so scared. The thought of going back to a poor state scared the hell out of her. But I didn't pity them. They had stolen everything from me. My home, my mother and the wealth she left behind for me. I was not going to watch anymore. I was going to fight and show them how much I was going to make them suffer. I watched as James sighed the document and pushed it across the table. " It is done." Hawkins said into the coms. " Also, tell them they are dropping the cars too. Everything they had today was all thanks to my dead mother. I am going to be taking more than half of everything they have." I said again Hawkins relaxed, a gentle smile played on his lips. "Is that all?" James asked " All? No. This is actually the beginning of a long term business between the two of us actually." Hawkins replied." What do you mean? We didn't

James held her gaze, but there was something fractured behind his eyes now. A secret he has kept for many years was now about to be blown right in his face. It was supposed to be simple but Sheila's father was smarter. James thought he was going to be handling everything to his daughter but instead Gerald didn't. For a moment, he said nothing. Then he laughed. It wasn’t humor. It was exhaustion.“You still think this is about me alone,” he said quietly, shaking his head. “That’s the problem, Sheila. It stopped being just about me the moment you said ‘I do.’”Sheila stiffened, her fingers tightening again around the pen. “Then start talking,” she snapped. “No more half-truths.”James stared at her. He knew the moment he told her the truth then he was going to lose his grip, lose his hold over her. He never loved her anyways. It was all about the inheritance. It was almost about getting his share out of the Gerald siphon from his late wife. That was his plan and it was quite simple.

" What is he talking about?" Sheila asked James gaze slowly left Hawkins and landed on Sheila who was a bit jittery. " You don't need to listen to whatever he says. My name's James Howard and that is it!" " Is it?" Hawkins said laughing. James knew he was caught in Hawkins trap again. " Fine! Where do I sign!" Sheila rushed toward him and grab the pen. " And you think we don't need to talk about this?" she snapped. James frowned.." Can you give us a minute?" he asked looking at Hawkins.Hawkins simply laughed and got to his feet. " Of course. You have all the time you want. Let me know what you decide to do but mind you..." he took a pause. " You don't have a choice." The door clicked shut behind Hawkins, but the echo of his words lingered like a stain in the room. You don’t have a choice.Sheila turned sharply to James, her grip still tight on the pen as though it were the only thing keeping her grounded. “Explain,” she demanded, her voice lower now, but far more dangerous.

James eyes scanned the document real quick. His eyes nearly bulged out of their sockets seeing the agreement terms. "Are you for real? What the hell is this?" he shouted. The ball pen he was holding suddenly fell off his hands while he pushed the boom back to the middle of the table. Sheila's gaze went to the centre of the table and he immediately grabbed the book. She read it real fast before her gaze changed into something meaner. " Is this real? You want seventy percent of everything we have laboured for? Why?" she snapped. " Why what?" Hawkins said with amusement in his voice. He snapped his hands into the air again and a girl brought a tray containing a glass bottle for brandy. " Care for a cup of wine?" he asked" Keep your wine, Mr Hawkins. We don't know what we have done for you to be doing this." Sheila said, her eyebrows furrowed. " If I tell you what you, would you have apologized or does that change the fact that what you did was wrong?" Hawkins said again, his han

Sheila and James stared at each other for quite a while. They both knew they were fighting a shadow. A shadow that doesn't care about negotiating but brings them down to their very knees. James dropped the call, sweating profusely. "Who the hell does she think she is? How can she do this to me?" He smashed the glass cup he was holding on the wall so loud that Sheila rushed out of the room. "What is going on, James? You scared the shit out of me!" she said with a worried look. Jam
