Chapter 4

Author: Cat Treats
Three days later, the seal on the back of my hand was barely visible.

The door swung open. Mom strode into the room and slapped a document in front of me, saying, "It's an organ donation agreement. Sign it now."

"Are you sure that you're allowed to abuse your authority as a doctor to remove your son's kidney without his consent?" I asked with a smile.

Mom's eyes flashed. Meanwhile, Dad looked completely unbothered as he coldly said, "It doesn't matter even if you refuse to sign the agreement. It'll just be a little more troublesome for us.

"Things were supposed to be so simple. You could have helped Hayden by just giving up one of your kidneys. We could still have been a loving family in the future. You're the one who insisted on causing a fuss."

He clicked his tongue and shook his head, looking as if he was feeling regretful over how things turned out. "Now, we have no choice but to have you take the fall for Hayden even after removing one of your kidneys. It's to prevent you from stirring up trouble and making things more difficult for us."

Dad swept the organ donation agreement aside and pulled out another stack of papers from his briefcase. "You don't have the privilege of choice in this regard."

I looked down. The documents were forged evidence designed to force me to take the fall in Hayden's place. Someone had already forged my signature on the dotted line. It looked identical to my own. All that was left was my fingerprint.

I forced myself to laugh even as my throat tightened. "You really thought of everything in case I refused to sign, Dad."

Dad didn't bother responding to my jab. He stepped forward and grabbed my wrist, yanking it toward the table. He was exerting so much force that it was as if he wanted to throw me against it.

"Are you going to put your fingerprint on the documents?" he demanded.

I thrashed around wildly, curling my hand upward so it wouldn't touch the inkpad. "I refuse! I would rather die than be his scapegoat!"

The next second, a dull thud resounded across the room. Dad had kicked me to the floor. My vision went black for a split second when my back collided against the edge of the bed.

Dad hovered over me before I could catch my breath, stepping on my hand. His voice was completely devoid of emotion as he stood over me and asked, "Did you think that this was a discussion?"

The color had drained from Mom's face as she stood to the side. She averted her gaze and said, "Stop being so stubborn. Why don't you just make things easier for yourself by going along with our plans?"

I gritted my teeth and refused to make a sound.

Dad applied more force to my hand. Excruciating pain lanced through me as a sickening crunch resounded around the room. I couldn't feel my hand anymore.

Dad grabbed my broken hand and pressed my finger against the inkpad. He then pressed it to the forged evidence, leaving a string of wonky fingerprints in its wake.

He only let go of me when he was done, saying, "You could have saved us a lot of trouble if you had cooperated from the start."

I braced my good hand against the floor and slowly pushed myself back up to my feet. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and stopped the recording.

"You're right. You saved me a lot of trouble by dropping the act altogether. I've recorded everything you said when you tried to force me to sign the organ donation agreement and get my fingerprint on the forged evidence."

Hayden lunged at me and snatched my phone out of my hand. However, when he looked at the screen, he realized that I had already uploaded the recording to the cloud. I had also sent it to a few popular livestreamers I had contacted beforehand.

The color drained from his face in an instant. "He already sent the recording, Dad! What are we going to do now?"

Dad scoffed and said, "A recording that was done in secret doesn't have any legal merit. It'll just cause a few waves among the public. There's nothing for you to worry about!"

A smile broke across my face. "Is that so?"

The wails of police sirens cut through the air.

"What if the police witnessed everything firsthand?" I asked. "Do you have another trick up your sleeve, Mr. Adley?"

As I spoke, the sounds of the police forcing the lock open came from beyond the door. I glanced at the seal on the back of my hand. It was nearly gone.

The moment the police opened the door, I forced a pen into Hayden's hand before grabbing it. I then mustered all the strength I had left within me and ruthlessly stabbed the pen into the artery in my neck.

However, the most frightening part about the entire situation was how the police sirens were gradually closing in too.The driver was so scared that he scrambled out of the car and raised both hands into the air, shouting, "I-I'm just a cab driver. I don't know anything!"The moment the words left his lips, the cab door was opened from the outside.Dad's familiar voice cut through the air. "Get out of the cab."Jason tried to put up a struggle, reflexively bringing me closer to his chest. "You've made a mistake. He's my son! We're just taking him home!"Using a shocking amount of strength, Dad forcefully peeled Jason's fingers off me and handed me to Mom, who cradled me in her arms.Emily shrieked and lunged at us. "No! Jason grabbed Emily and dragged her away before she could finish her sentence. The sound of their urgent, chaotic footsteps quickly disappeared around the corner of the hallway.I was still crying and felt like I was on the verge of passing out.The door was slammed open."What's going on?"An urgent but familiar voice cut through the air.I wasn't able to get a good look at the newcomer before I felt a pair of hands carefully pick me up from the cot.Mom was back. She didn't even bother removing her coat before taking me from Dad. Her movements were very gentle, but I could tell how anxious she was."Don't cry, sweetie," she cooed hoarsely. "I was late. I'm sorry…"She patted my back over and over again, pressing her forehead to mine. "Why are you crying like this? Your face is turning purple…"I finally breathed a sigh of relief. My cries slowly faded away until I was only letting out the occasional sob."Why is he crying like this?" Dad asked. It was obvious that he was t

Emily could barely string a proper sentence together because of how hard she was crying."I was wrong," she blubbered. "I shouldn't have played favorites. I shouldn't have wronged you for that beast. I regretted my actions every day after you left. We've already sent Hayden to prison. He was convicted of murder, so he'll be locked behind bars for decades!"Please come back to us, okay? Come home with me…"In my past lives, I had hoped countless times that Jason and Emily would regret hurting me. However, they were too late. I had already taken my revenge, and I had also started my new life. I didn't want their belated regret anymore.Emily lowered her head until her forehead was nearly touching my cheek. It almost felt as if she wanted to mold me into her embrace. My past self might have been moved by her actions, but at that moment, an overwhelming feeling of disgust roiled in my gut, so intense that I nearly threw up.I thrashed around wildly, twisting my tiny body desperately

It didn't take long for me to be born. I cried when I was picked up. My new father turned to his assistant and said, "Inform the family that the inheritance trust will be going into effect early. The property in the heart of the city will be directly transferred to the child. Set up education and medical funds separately. Double the amount for both." From the moment I was born, I had things that were difficult for regular people to get even if they worked their entire lives. My new mother lay on the hospital bed. Her face was still a little pale from going through childbirth, but she still reached out and cradled me in her arms at the first chance she got."We'll give you the best things in the world," she murmured.Mom and I were sent to the postpartum care center on the south side of the city after we were discharged from the hospital. The center was famous for only serving VIP clients. There were floor-to-ceiling windows that faced the river in my room. I was fed milk, nurse

Gunshots rang through the air when the police saw Hayden dealing a fatal blow to me. I watched as Hayden's hand was punctured by several bullets. Blood spurted from his wounds, but the blood that gushed from my artery was even more intense.I had always thought that dying would be an incredibly painful ordeal. However, I only felt the sensation of blood pouring endlessly out of my neck. In fact, even breathing became easier.Hayden was screaming hysterically. "My hand!"When the police swiftly pinned him to the floor, he thrashed around and shouted, "I didn't do it! He was the one who—"They hauled him away before he could finish his sentence.Mom threw herself at me. My blood spurted all over her face. She cried out in fear as she pressed her hands to my neck.
