LOGINGemma’s POV
Mate???Every single hair on my body stood at attention once I heard his declaration, and even though I knew technically that he could be lying, or something in the way my heart quickened told me that he was telling the truth. My head spun as questions fired off in my mind in quick succession. How had he managed to get his Pack to accept me as their Luna despite my weak wolf? And more importantly, how was it that I had arrived at Rogueland all those months ago withLazarus’s POVI sat at the head of the long polished table of the council room, my hands rested on the dark surface as the tension rose in the room. There was a strong scent of bitter coffee and aged paper in the air. Four of the pack elders sat across from me, their faces were pale and they fidgeted in their leather seats. They had been speaking in hushed tones for the past twenty minutes, trying to be considerate in how they mention the odd rumours circulating around the pack. They knew about Delilah being arrested, and the sudden medical check up in Asher’s wing and they were extremely worried about what this meant for our territory.Clearing his throat, Elder Robert, the oldest of the elders, leaned forwards. His liver spotted hands rested on the surface of his tablet.“We need to be upfront about this, Alpha. The High council is asking questions about our border issues around the creek. We then hear whispers that the defected female is showing signs of
Gemma’s POVThe sun peeked through the tall glass panes of the window, casting long streaks of a pale yellow across the dark floorboards. I slowly opened my eyes as I felt a heavy, yet comforting weight against my back. Lazarus was still asleep beside me, his arm draped comfortably over my waist and his gentle breathing brushing against the nape of my neck. I felt calm, peaceful and the feeling washed over me as I did not feel my heart racing in my chest, nor my stomach churning. Instead my heart stayed calm and I felt a weird sense of hope.Carefully I slid Lazarus’s arm off my waist and slipped out of the cosy covers. My feet landed on the rug and I took a deep breath as the fresh morning air wafted through the open window. The last few days had been hell, to say the least. I apparently had strange powers I knew nothing about, I’m having a child for essentially three Alphas who might be the harbinger of doom and I was almost murdered.Again.Thes
Gemma’s POV Once the hysteria of Delilah’s screams ended, there was a sort of calm tension in the air, allowing every corner of the pack house to fall into a state of peaceful and quiet in the midnight hours. Without the swirling red lights flashing above us, the bright fluorescent lights lined the hallway like usual. They had taken the priestess to the very lowest dungeons below. The second floor remained completely still. Lazarus took his large arm and wrapped it around my waist as we walked back up the steps towards the master bedroom. He did not speak during the short walk up, but simply applied constant pressure on my side with his warm hand. I could feel exactly what the pressure was trying to convey, he was holding like he was afraid I’d disappear should he let go for even a second. Unlocking the door to the suite he led me inside quickly, shutting the door behind us and lockin
The loud, piercing chime of the alarm bell rang through the house, vibrating against the walls. Red warning lights flickered along the high ceilings of the top floor corridor, casting an eerie, flashing glow over the dark floorboards. Vincent’s words hung in the air, keeping me rooted to the spot. ‘Delilah has gotten loose into the territory.’ Lazarus spun on his heels, his face was a mask of pure rage, his dark eyes full of fury and a promise of retribution. He turned and placed both of his hands on my shoulders. “You need to listen to what I’m telling you Gemma,” he looked down at me seriously. “I need you to lock this door behind me. No one, not even me, should be able to open this door to get to you unless they use the passcode I am going to give you. Delilah is completely unhinged and she’s after you.” “I’m not hiding in this room crying my eyes out, while the pack house is in disaster,” I said, trying to keep my voice calm eve
Lazarus’s POVI barged through the heavy doors of Gemma’s bedroom, my boots pounded against the wooden floors lining the hallway. The fire in my eyes glowed intently with fury inside of me as I moved forward until I came to a stop in front of the two enforcers. They both quickly straightened and paled at the end of their backs pressed into the wall. “I want to know. Who let them in?” My menacingly rough tone boomed through the space between us as I moved even closer to them. “You were told to do only one thing tonight. To stand guard in-front of these doors and ensure nobody gets anywhere near her. Yet here you stand with a note and white rose placed on her bed!” The one on the left, the one in charge among the two, a young man named Thomas, gulped heavily, his hands shaking by his sides. “I-I forgot my place Alpha, we were here the whole after. No one came down this hallway.” “That means you’r
Gemma’s POVTwo hours of sitting by the bed in the master suite and I couldn’t help but notice how quiet the room suddenly felt. Lazarus had headed down to the bottom floor to deal with the afternoon perimeter reports and I was left alone with my thoughts. The comforting crackle of the fireplace and the unthinkable words Asher said now echoed in my mind. I stared at my hands which felt as if they were still in Lazarus’s grip. I couldn’t sit still anymore.I pushed myself to my feet and slid my oversized grey jumper over my shorts. The two enforcers who were stationed outside of the landing turned as I unlatched the door handle. Unlike previous attempts they made no effort to stop me as I stepped forward. However, they were visibly worried as I confidently strode past them down the wide wooden staircase. The main foyer was lively as various members of the pack waited to go to the laundry rooms, dining hall or backyard. The sound of their chatter and clatteri
