Jasmine’s POV

True to his word, Greg had two technicians outside my door within fifteen minutes. They worked swiftly, changing the lock and helping me input my thumbprint and passcode. Only then did I feel better.

By eleven o’clock, I was deep into work. One of the supervisors I rewarded willingly sent me the updated version of their logs and rosters, helping me keep track of their work a lot faster.

Yet, despite the thrill of having some reasonable work to do, my eyes kept wandering to the cor

Jasmine’s POVThe moment I walked into my office and the door clicked shut behind me, I let out an exhausted breath. I dropped my bag on the desk, walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and pressed my palms hard against the cool glass. To the outside world, the Astor Hotel looked pristine, towering above most surrounding buildings, but beneath the massive structure, termites were eating away at the foundation. My mind raced through a dozen different worst-case scenarios.Although I had held my ground in front of Leo and displayed fearlessness in front of everyone else, my hands were actually trembling as I pulled them away from the glass.I was rattled to the core. The client was still fighting for her life in the hospital, and if her publicist decided to file a lawsuit against the Astor Group, or if the press caught wind that a VIP guest had been deliberately poisoned inside our suite, the hotel's stock would crater overnight. The board would use the crisis to strip my voting s

Jasmine’s POVLeo scrambled forward, his fingers shaking so badly over the keyboard that he nearly fumbled his keystrokes."R-right away, Chairwoman," Leo stammered, his eyes darting anxiously between my face and the furious glare Julian was still shooting at the back of my head.I watched carefully as he began navigating the numerous footages to the exact one we needed.I leaned in closer, resting my hands on the edge of the console, my eyes glued to the screen.Mr. Miller appeared in the frame first. He moved professionally, carefully checking the printed allergen manifest that belonged to the guest. After making sure everything was in order, he walked away. For a few seconds, the pantry was completely empty. Then, about a few seconds later, the camera glitched, before revealing another man who had suddenly appeared in the pantry, and now, he was standing over the tray of food. The man had his back turned to the wide-angle overhead lens, shielding his face from direct view like he k

Jasmine’s POVI walked away, not bothering to give him a second glance as I made my way to the control room, with my mind swimming with thoughts.I wasn’t going to give Julian the satisfaction of getting a reaction out of me. My breathing remained steady as I reached the security door leading to the main control room. I swiped my keycard against the scanner, letting it open with a ping.Inside, my eyes ran over the rows of towering server racks humming softly in the background of the large room. The security technician on duty, a young man with a name tag reading Leo, was already half asleep, with his chair bent awkwardly, making him almost fall off. When I walked into the room, his heavy eyes trailed to me and they remained dull for a moment before he snapped back to reality."Chairwoman Smith!" Leo blurted out, scrambling to his feet so fast his headset cord snapped. He bobbed his head in a clumsy, flustered bow, as if in apology. "I... I wasn't expecting you down here, please forgi

Jasmine’s POVJulian’s smug expression faltered for a fraction of a second, with his mouth parting as my words hung in the air."Drama?" Julian spluttered, his face darkening with outrage as he puffed out his chest. "A very important guest is fighting for her life in an emergency room, our plans for the day have been thrown into ruins, and you have the gall to call this drama? The board is watching you, Jasmine. Have you forgotten? Your incompetence has—""My incompetence?" I interrupted, stepping closer with my gaze hardening. My eyes met his, and for a moment, I didn’t blink as my gaze bore into him, making his confidence slowly melt away."You called an impromptu meeting right in this lobby with everyone present," I continued, pitching my voice so that everyone listening and lurking around could hear. "You have caused panic instead of trying to restore stability. You are making the whole issue worse because you are better at projecting failure rather than taking action. If anyone h

Jasmine’s POVI didn’t waste time trying to guess what might have gone wrong.I sprinted down the hall to the guest room, throwing open the closet. I stripped out of the wrinkled gown and grabbed a tailored gown, pairing it with some flats because I didn’t know what was waiting for me back at the hotel.I pinned my hair up into a tight twist, wiped away the smudged makeup from the night before, gave my teeth a quick brush, and grabbed my bag.Within seven minutes, I was out of the penthouse. I hailed a cab from the curb, urging the driver to hurry up.My knuckles turned white against my purse as my mind raced through Julian's hysterical words. What did he mean by ‘your staff happened’?I also noticed that he wasn’t just sounding angry, there was also a hint of triumph in his tone while he yelled at me. Trying not to overthink, I pushed my troubled thoughts to the back of my mind. When the cab pulled up to the hotel’s entrance, the spectacle on the curb confirmed my worst fears. Two me

Jasmine’s POVA soft groan slipped past my lips as morning light filtered through the curtains, prodding my eyelids open. A dull ache throbbed behind my temples, but what woke me entirely was the unfamiliar feeling around me.I peeled my eyes open to see I was in a room made of all black. Everything from the curtains and walls down to the sheets was pitch black. My breath hitched. I bolted upright, my heart slamming violently against my ribs as I whipped my head around. This was not the guest suite. It was much larger, like the master bedroom with a king-sized bed.It was Ryan’s room.Panic flared in my throat as I frantically yanked the duvet back to inspect myself. The gown was slightly wrinkled, but it was completely intact. The straps were in place, and I didn’t feel strange either. Relief washed over me in a heavy wave, followed immediately by an agonizing attempt to piece together the missing hours of last night. The private table at Club 44. The wine. The silly confession about
