"Who in the world are you, and what is this car accident about?" I asked, pulling on the handbrake with all my might.

Still shaken, I stared at the crash site not far away, my back drenched in cold sweat.

Someone with a voice identical to mine spoke through the phone. "Do not doubt me. I am you from three years in the future. That's why I know about all these."

However, this felt absurd to me. I was convinced it was a tech-savvy voice-phishing scammer who was manipulating my voice.

For all these years, my life was simple and happy. I had a daily routine. Moreover, my daughter, Olivia Sacks, was safe and well at home, and there was nothing amiss with her even after I left.

This was such an ordinary day. How could my daughter possibly die? After simmering down, I wanted to hang up the call and ring Olivia up once again.

Right at this moment, the person on the other end of the call said urgently, "I can prove to you that I am not just running my mouth. Liv is truly in danger!"

Before I could say anything, an elderly person's voice sounded through the call. "My deepest condolences, Ms. Lisbon. You're here so early to visit your daughter's grave."

I held my breath. Was she at a cemetery? Could it be that something had actually happened to Olivia?

As the footsteps faded, the other "me" on the phone spoke up once again. "That was the caretaker at the cemetery. We have become very familiar with one another after my frequent visits over the past three years."

My chest tightened at the thought of the car crash that was like a prophecy that had come to pass. Still, I held onto hope as I argued, "My husband will be home soon. With him looking after Liv, there's no way that anything could happen to her."

I heard a brief harrumph from the other end of the call. Without any hesitation, the woman on the other end of the call blurted a string of words.

"At 1:15 pm, Norman Sacks will tell you that he has to work overtime today, so he won't be heading home. You call Sarah right after that, but she will say that she's away on vacation.

"Five minutes later, your secretary calls to rush you. You will then be left with no choice but to give up on going home to check on Liv."

I listened in a daze. Intuitively, I glanced at my wristwatch. It was 1:14 pm at the moment.

Sixty seconds ticked by, and the call from Norman came in right on the dot. "Darling, I've got to work overtime today, so I won't be home for dinner."

I blurted, "Didn't we agree for you to take care of our daughter in the afternoon? What is she going to do if you're not going home?"

In a relaxed voice, Norman replied, "Liv will be fine at home for half a day. Don't worry too much about it. I have something urgent to tend to. Bye for now."

Once he said that, an engaged tone came through the phone. I stared straight at the scene of the traffic accident a short distance away as I called my best friend, Sarah Harker.

"I'm sorry, Dezzy. I'm away on a holiday, and I just got off the plane. I'll bring with me some local delicacies for my goddaughter once I'm back," Sarah said gleefully.

She even sent me a few photographs from her vacation. By the time my secretary called, I was in no mood to listen to anything else.

That bizarre phone call, spanning time and space, was still connected. The other "me" said in a scratchy voice, "Dezarae Lisbon, trust me. I've tried sending you a photograph. I hope that it can change this outcome."

My phone vibrated, and an image popped up. It was a gravestone in black-and-white. Olivia was smiling brightly in the photograph on the gravestone. My heart twisted in agony at the thought of her lying in that icy, cold grave.

I turned around and headed home immediately, hesitating no further. Even if there was the slightest chance of an accident happening, I was not going to allow it to come to pass.

Olivia entered the hall and threw her arms around me. Meanwhile, Norman and Sarah stared at us, dumbfounded. Then, they cried out, "This is impossible. She clearly died. What the hell are you doing, Dezarae?" I held onto Olivia as I glared at them frigidly. In an icy voice, I replied, "No one would be here to bear witness to your heinous crimes if Liv died." Norman protested loudly, "That's nonsense!" Olivia burst into tears, shrinking into my arms the best she could. "Daddy and Sarah are bad people. They wanted to kidnap me!" As Olivia's cries reverberated throughout the funeral hall, the looks on everyone's faces changed. I stroked her hair, my heart aching. "Don't be afraid. Mommy's right here." Olivia choked back her tears, saying, "I was at your office the other day when Daddy called me out of the blue, saying that he wanted to play a game with me. He told me to sneak out without telling anyone. "After I walked out, he threw my smartwatch away. Together with Sarah, t

From this day forward, Sarah stayed at my place. She walked her talk—taking charge of all funeral matters so that I did not have to worry at all. I went to work as usual every day while she handled the nitty-gritty matters, seeing to everything from the funeral to the cemetery personally. On the few occasions when she came to my workplace, she looked haggard, and her dark circles showed. After she dropped by a number of times, people at the company even commented about how Sarah, Olivia's godmother, was more affected than I was. Nonetheless, I ignored it all.Seven days after Olivia's death, the burial finally began. The solemnly-built memorial was decorated with white chrysanthemums and lilies.Norman's and my family members who were able to make it had come. To express how important this was to her, Sarah invited her friends and family as well. Throngs of people squeezed into the memorial hall. It was indeed a sight to behold. Norman and Sarah stood at the door, both dressed in

An officer walked toward me with a rather sombre expression. "Don't worry, Ms. Lisbon. We will get to the bottom of this and uncover the truth for your sake." I shook my head. "She's already dead. It's no use to find the murderer anyway." Everyone present shot one another looks of bewilderment. The officer said to me cautiously, "We understand how you feel. We can help with connecting you to someone if you need any psychological help or support." This time, I was the one who was surprised. I let a smile spread across my face, appearing completely unfazed. "The dead cannot be brought back to life, but the living must move on. I've got lots to do. If there's nothing else, I shall make a move and leave this to the rest of you." I was indeed about to turn around and leave after saying that when Norman suddenly blurted, "Dezzy is right. Whatever's happened has already happened. "There's no need to wallow in grief. We might as well have her cremated as soon as possible so that

By the time I walked out of the surveillance room, the worried look on my face had vanished completely. The tension on Norman's face eased up. He walked to my side and held my hand in a caring manner. "Don't worry. Even though we haven't found Liv, the police have made progress, haven't they? "We will find her sooner or later. Liv will be so heartbroken when she returns if you hurt yourself over this." I grimaced, pulling my hand out of his grasp while saying calmly, "Of course I know that. Don't worry. I will take good care of myself. As for the investigation, let's leave it to the authorities, as long as they can find something. "Officers, just inform my husband if you people make any progress. You don't have to keep me informed." Dumbstruck, everyone stared at me. After all, they saw, with their own eyes, how anxious I was earlier. The female officer nearest to me shot me a strange look. "Ms. Lisbon, aren't you worried about your daughter? Just ten minutes ago, you were

I was stunned. Just as I wanted to press on to ask why, the phone call started buzzing, as if its signal was disrupted. Following that, the call abruptly ended. Immense terror crashed over me instantly. I called back desperately, but could not get through no matter how I tried. I heard a series of footsteps approaching. Norman showed up around the corner with a worried expression on his face. He exhaled in relief when he saw me, then he hurried up to me. He reassured, "Dezzy, the authorities are already looking for her. Don't worry too much." I bit my lip, barely able to hold myself together as my mind filled with self-reproach and regret. "If only I were more careful, Liv would not have been taken away." Norman held me in a tight embrace, his tone sorrowful. "Don't say that…" At this moment, my phone rang. I lifted my phone immediately, only to see that it was Sarah calling. "Are you alright, Dezzy? Norman mentioned that Liv went missing. Why did you keep something like

Alarm bells rang out in my head, washing out all other sounds around me. I leapt to my feet and rushed to the washroom. The washroom was filled with silence. No one was in there. My secretary said to me with a serious look on her face, "I'm certain that everything happened in less than ten minutes. There is no way that anyone could hide a five-year-old child without anyone noticing. "I have informed the security team to look into the surveillance footage from the entire building. We will be able to find her soon." I attempted to call Olivia on her smartwatch, but it just showed that her phone was switched off the entire time. I managed to locate her smartwatch's GPS coordinates. It was less than 300 feet away.I followed the signal, only to find the watch lying on the floor in a corner with no one in sight. I clenched my hands into tight fists, fighting to calm myself down. "Ask around with the people around here and see if they have seen Liv." Soon enough, an employee rec
