LENA'S POV

Helen arrived at the compound in person three days before the trial, which told me how seriously she was taking the preparation.

She set up in the conference room with files spread across the table and a laptop open to what looked like a list of every possible question Edmund's lawyers might ask. She was sharper in person than she had been on video calls, quicker, more direct, the kind of person who did not waste words because she had too much work to do to spare them.

LENA'S POVHelen arrived at the compound in person three days before the trial, which told me how seriously she was taking the preparation. She set up in the conference room with files spread across the table and a laptop open to what looked like a list of every possible question Edmund's lawyers might ask. She was sharper in person than she had been on video calls, quicker, more direct, the kind of person who did not waste words because she had too much work to do to spare them."We are going to run through this multiple times," she said, looking around the room at Ghost, Axel, Rook, David, and me. "I need Lena comfortable with every difficult question before she sits in that chair. The first time she hears these questions cannot be from opposing counsel.""Start whenever you are ready," I said. She started immediately."Miss Graves, is it true that you have been living with members of a known criminal organization since the day of your wedding."I had been told to answer honestly an

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER TWENTY NINE — Rook's Hands

LENA'S POVRook did my morning checkup three days later in the small medical room he had set up off the main corridor.I had grown used to this routine by now. The careful way he checked my blood pressure first, then listened for the heartbeats with the portable monitor he kept charged and ready at all times, then asked his usual round of questions about sleep and appetite and any unusual symptoms. That morning was different. He found the first heartbeat quickly, steady and strong, the way it always was. Then the second. When he searched for the third, he paused, the monitor held still against my stomach a moment longer than necessary.I watched his face. "Is something wrong.""No," he said. "I just like hearing all three."He held the monitor there, listening to the third heartbeat for several seconds after he had clearly already found it and confirmed it was healthy. I watched something move through his expression while he listened. Quiet and private and enormous."You do this every

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT — Ghost Feels It

LENA'S POVThe evening after the clinic appointment, the compound felt different.Lighter somehow. The good news from the scan had spread through the inner circle quickly, and even though most of the club did not know the details, they seemed to absorb the lifted mood the way the compound always absorbed things. Someone put music on low in the common room. David made an actual joke at dinner that made Axel choke on his food laughing.I sat with my plate mostly finished and watched all of it happen around me and felt something settle that had been unsettled for weeks. After dinner, when most people had drifted off to their own corners of the compound, I found Ghost sitting alone on the back steps that led out to the small garden Anna would eventually claim as her own. He had a glass of something in his hand that he was not really drinking, just holding, looking out at the dark.I sat down beside him without saying anything. We stayed like that for a while."You did not come find me whe

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN — First Movement

LENA'S POVThree things happened on the same Wednesday morning.Edmund's lawyers filed a motion to suppress David's evidence on the grounds that it had been obtained through illegal surveillance. Two more women came forward publicly. And I woke up at five in the morning with my heart going too fast and a feeling I could not name sitting heavy in my chest.I lay in the dark for a while trying to identify the feeling. It was not fear. I had learned what fear felt like in my body by now. Fear was sharp and cold and lived in my throat. This was different. Heavier. Somewhere lower.I got up and went to the kitchen and made tea and sat at the table in the early dark and waited to understand what I was feeling.Ghost found me there at six.He did not ask immediately. He made coffee and sat across from me and let the morning be quiet for a few minutes the way he sometimes did, giving things room to surface at their own pace instead of pulling them out."Edmund's lawyers filed again," I said.

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER TWENTY SIX — Cracks

LENA'S POVI felt the baby kick for the first time on a Tuesday morning while I was brushing my teeth. It was not subtle. A firm, deliberate press against my ribs that made me drop my toothbrush into the sink and stand completely still, both hands flying to my stomach. It happened again.I laughed out loud, alone in the bathroom, the sound bouncing off the tile.I found Axel in the kitchen and grabbed his hand before he could even say good morning, pressing it flat against my stomach without explanation."What are we....." he started, then stopped completely as the baby moved again, right under his palm.He went very still."Was that," he said."Yes.""That was actually....""Yes, Axel."He stared at my stomach like it had just performed a magic trick exclusively for him. Then he looked up at me, and his face had done something I had never seen it do before. Open. Unguarded. Something close to wonder."Hello," he said quietly, to my stomach. Just that. Hello. Like he was meeting someo

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER TWENTY FIVE — Her Voice

LENA'S POVBy morning the story had completely flipped.I woke up to Axel banging on my door, which had become his preferred method of delivering news lately, and he held his phone up before I had even fully sat up in bed."Three news networks are leading with your statement," he said. "Not his. Yours."I rubbed my eyes and took the phone. The headline read FORMER FIANCEE OF BILLIONAIRE EDMUND HALE SPEAKS OUT: I AM NOT ASHAMED ANYMORE. Below it was a still frame of my face from the video, steady and unflinching."They used that line as the headline," I said."It is a good line," Axel said. "You should be a writer."I almost laughed. "Maybe someday."He sat on the edge of my bed, uninvited as usual, and scrolled through more coverage. "Edmund's people put out a statement an hour ago. They are calling your claims unsubstantiated and emotionally driven.""Of course they are.""Nobody is buying it," Axel said. "Two of the women from Margaret's documents came forward this morning. Separate
