Lena's pov

The results took five days.

Five days of Axel bringing me food I didn't ask for and sitting beside me while I ate it like he was scared I'd disappear if he looked away. Five days of Rook showing up in whatever room I was in without explanation, quiet and steady like a wall nobody had asked him to build but everyone was grateful for. Five days of Ghost watching everything from a distance with those grey green eyes that gave nothing away but missed absolutely nothing.

Five days of me pressing my hand flat against my stomach in the dark and trying not to think about things I wasn't ready to think about.

The envelope arrived Friday morning.

Ghost took it from the courier himself. Carried it to the kitchen where the rest of us were already gathered like we'd all felt it coming without anyone saying a word. He set it on the table and nobody reached for it.

Axel broke first. "Just open it Ghost."

"Give me a second."

"You've had five days."

"Axel." Rook's voice. One word. Axel closed his mouth.

Ghost looked at me across the table. "Whatever this says," he said quietly. "Nothing changes. You're here. Those babies are here. That's already decided."

I nodded. My hands were cold in my lap and my heart was doing something loud and uneven against my ribs.

He picked up the envelope.

Opened it slowly.

His eyes moved across the page and I watched his face the way you watch the sky before a storm. Waiting for the first sign of what's coming.

It came fast.

Something shifted behind his eyes. Small and devastating. There and gone before anyone else caught it.

He looked at Axel.

Axel sat up straight immediately. "What."

Ghost looked at Rook.

Rook went completely still.

Ghost set the paper flat on the table and turned it around slowly.

Nobody spoke.

The clock on the wall ticked. Once. Twice.

"None of us," Ghost said. His voice came out low and careful like a man who was holding something together through sheer will. "None of us is the father."

Axel stood up so fast his chair scraped back hard against the floor.

"That's not possible," he said. "That is not possible."

"The results don't lie," Rook said. He was still looking at the paper. Jaw tight. Hands flat on the table.

"Then something is wrong with the test." Axel turned to me and his eyes were wild and confused and something else underneath that I didn't have a name for. "Lena you've been here six weeks. You haven't gone anywhere without one of us. How does this make any sense?"

"Axel," Ghost said.

"No Ghost tell me how this makes sense. Tell me..."

"AXEL."

Axel stopped.

Ran both hands through his hair.

Turned away from the table.

Rook still hadn't moved. He was looking at the paper with those steady green eyes and something working quietly behind them. Then he looked up at me.

Just me.

I felt my breath catch.

There was something in his expression that I couldn't read. Not accusation. Not anger. Something more careful than that. Like a man who was putting something together slowly and didn't want to get it wrong.

I looked away first.

Ghost was watching me too now.

I stared at the paper on the table. At the results that made no sense to any of them. At the three names printed neatly across the top with three clear negatives beside them.

My ears were ringing.

In the back of my mind something cold and quiet was pushing its way to the surface. Something I had folded up as small as it would go three months ago and buried under everything else. Something I had told myself wasn't relevant. Wasn't important. Wasn't something I ever needed to say out loud.

I pushed it back down.

Not here. Not now. Not yet.

"We run it again," Ghost said finally. Controlled. Certain. "Different lab. We run it again and we get a different result."

"And if we don't," Axel said from the window. His back still turned.

Ghost didn't answer that.

Because there was no good answer. And Ghost never spoke unless he had something worth saying.

Rook stood up quietly and walked to the counter. Poured three cups of coffee without asking and set them down in front of each of us. Then he sat back down and wrapped both hands around his own cup and said nothing.

I stared at mine.

The kitchen was so quiet.

Outside I could hear the compound. Engines. Voices. The ordinary sounds of a world that had no idea what was sitting in this room right now.

Ghost reached across the table and picked the paper up and folded it slowly and put it in his pocket. Like putting it away would put the information away with it.

"Nobody talks about this outside this room," he said. "Not until we know what we're dealing with."

Axel turned around. His eyes were red at the edges. "And what are we dealing with Ghost? Because from where I'm standing..."

"We're dealing with our family," Ghost said. Simple. Final. "That's what we're dealing with. Nothing else changes until I say it does."

Axel looked at him for a long moment. Then he nodded once and sat back down.

Rook looked at me over the rim of his cup. His eyes were steady and warm and asking something he wasn't going to say out loud. Not here. Not in front of everyone.

I looked back at him and felt the thing in the back of my mind push harder against everything I was using to hold it down.

I smiled at him. Small and thin and nowhere near convincing.

He didn't look convinced.

But he let it go. For now.

I pressed my hand flat against my stomach under the table where nobody could see it.

Three babies. Three men who would burn the world down to protect them. And a secret sitting in my chest that was getting heavier by the hour.

I told myself I'd find the right moment.

I told myself I'd explain everything when I was ready.

But somewhere deep down underneath all of it one thought sat cold and still and wouldn't move no matter how hard I pushed.

Oh God, I thought. Please don't let it be who I think it is.

Please....

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER TWENTY — David

LENA'S POVThe file David put on the table was twelve years of someone's life.I could see it in the way the pages were ordered. Not chaotic. Not the desperate scrambling of someone collecting things randomly. Methodical. Dated. Cross referenced. The work of a man who had nothing left except the truth and had spent over a decade making sure it was airtight.Ghost picked up the first page and read it without speaking.I watched David while Ghost read. He was sitting across from me with both hands wrapped around his tea mug and he was looking at me the way he had been looking at me since we sat down. Like he was still catching up to the fact that I was real and sitting in his kitchen."How long have you known about me," I said."I always knew you existed," he said. "Edmund told me Anna died in childbirth. He said the baby, you, had been placed with a family. He said the adoption was closed and untraceable and that trying to find you would only disrupt a life that was already settled." He

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER NINETEEN — Anna

LENA'S POVI did not tell anyone what I was feeling that night. Not Axel who knocked on my door at nine and asked through the wood if I needed anything. Not Rook who I heard pause outside my room at eleven, those distinctive footsteps stopping briefly before continuing down the hall. I lay in the dark with the photograph on the nightstand where I could see it and stared at the ceiling and tried to organize twenty two years of missing something I did not know I was missing. My mother was alive. That sentence kept coming back around like a wheel that would not stop turning. My mother was alive and her name was Anna Graves and she had been kept by Edmund Hale for twenty years and she had journals. Journals she had been writing every year. To me. A daughter she could not reach.I pressed my face into the pillow at some point and cried properly for the first time since all of this started. Not the careful crying I had been doing. The ugly kind. The kind that comes from somewhere you did no

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER EIGHTEEN — The Other Woman

LENA'S POVI could not stop thinking about the photograph.Margaret had slipped it into my hand on the way out of the meeting room, pressed it against my palm quick and deliberate like she had planned to do it the whole time and waited until the last possible moment. A photograph. Small and slightly worn at the edges like it had been handled many times.A woman I did not recognize.I looked at it the whole drive back to the compound. Rook was driving. Ghost was in the passenger seat making calls in a low voice. I sat in the back with the photograph in both hands and looked at the woman's face and tried to find something familiar in it.She was maybe late forties in the photograph. Dark hair. Serious eyes that looked directly at the camera without flinching. She was holding a newspaper. Today's date on the front of it.This photograph was recent. On the back in Margaret's handwriting it said she was before you. She is still alive. Edmund has her.I turned it over again and looked at he

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER SEVENTEEN — Margaret's Information

LENA'S POVMargaret came three days later.Ghost arranged it carefully. A neutral location, a small meeting room in a building the club used for legal consultations, nothing that could be traced back to the compound directly. Two club members outside the door. Rook inside with us because Ghost trusted his ability to read people and Ghost himself across the table because nothing this significant happened without him present.I sat beside Ghost.Margaret walked in and the first thing she did was look at my stomach.I had not seen her since the dressing room. Since the slap and the perfume that smelled like a trap and the veil she had pinned into my hair with hands that did not shake because she had made her decision long before that morning and felt no conflict about it.She looked older than I remembered. Or maybe I was just seeing her differently now that I was not afraid of her.She sat down across from us and put a brown envelope on the table and did not reach for it again. Just lef

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER SIXTEEN — Margaret Calls

LENA'S POVMy phone rang at seven in the morning.I was still in bed, not quite asleep and not quite awake, in that foggy place between the two where everything feels slightly unreal. I reached for the phone without looking at the screen and pressed it to my ear."Lena."I was awake immediately.Margaret's voice had not changed. Still that particular sharpness, like every word had been ironed before she said it. But underneath the sharpness was something I had never heard from her before. She sounded frightened.I sat up slowly. "How did you get this number.""It does not matter," she said. "I need to talk to you.""You sold me to a seventy two year old man," I said. "I do not think we have anything to talk about.""Lena." A pause. Something that in anyone else I would have called a tremor. "Edmund is more dangerous than you know. More dangerous than I knew when I agreed to his arrangement. I made a terrible mistake and I am trying to correct it."I got out of bed and walked to the wi

  • Three ruthless bikers : one temptation    CHAPTER FIFTEEN — Public

LENA'S POVAxel saw it first. He came into the kitchen where I was eating lunch, put his phone screen in front of my face without saying anything, and waited.I looked at the screen. My face looked back at me.It was a news article. The photograph was from outside the church on the wedding day, taken by someone I had not noticed in the chaos of running. I was mid stride, wedding dress lifted in both hands, mouth open, eyes wild. The headline above it said BILLIONAIRE'S RUNAWAY BRIDE HIDING WITH NOTORIOUS MOTORCYCLE GANG.I put down my fork."When did this go up," I said."An hour ago," Axel said. "It is already everywhere."I read the article while Axel stood beside me and Ghost appeared in the doorway and Rook came in from the corridor and suddenly all four of us were crowded around a phone screen in the kitchen reading about me.The article was not subtle. It called the Iron Grave MC a known criminal organization. It called Ghost an unidentified dangerous associate. It called me emo
