Almost an hour later~

Cressida slipped into the room and approached the bed, settling beside Alaric with a gentle smile. “How are you feeling now?” She asked softly, her voice tinged with worry.

Alaric gave a nod. “I’m good.” He muttered, his eyes avoiding hers.

Her gaze lingered on him for a second. She reached out, her hand hesitating for a moment before gently brushing against his arm. “Alaric, you don’t have to pretend with me,” she said softly, her voice encouraging him to open up. “I know you’re not fine. Tell me. You don’t have to pretend.”

Alaric’s eyelids fluttered shut, and tears flooded out of his eyes, streaming down his cheeks. He inhaled sharply, attempting to stop the flow, but his body shook with sobs, and the tears continued to fall unchecked.

She enveloped him in a warm embrace, gently guiding his head to rest on her chest. She stroked his back in soothing motions, her voice a gentle whisper. “It’s okay…”

Natasha slipped into the parlor and spotted Rowan emerging from Amabel's room. She swiftly changed direction, reaching for the door to make a quick exit. But Rowan's voice halted her in her tracks. "Running away because your master's not here to protect you?" Natasha froze, her hand still grasping the door lever, as she waited for Rowan to approach. She released the door and turned to face Rowan, her eyes scanning his figure before a soft snicker escaped her lips. "Yes, I was..." she replied, her tone firm and expression unwavering. As she spoke, she slowly raised her arms, crossing them over her chest. "But that was before your ridiculous question made me reconsider."Rowan's eyes widened in surprise. "Hun!" The soft exclamation escaped her lips, catching her off guard that Natasha still dared to talk back. She quickly composed herself, her shock melting away into a subtle smile. "I see you've grown some nerve."Natasha scoffed. "I've always had nerves. Let's just say I was born

“Not again,” Cressida muttered under her breath as she checked her phone screen. Alaric’s name flashed for the sixth time after they departed this morning, his persistent calls a constant reminder of the rules she was expected to follow. She silenced the call, her fingers moving with practiced ease. “I’m not answering,” she whispered, but Floria caught the words and chuckled softly beside her.“Ignoring his calls might not be the best idea, ma’am,” Floria cautioned, her voice low.Cressida’s gaze drifted back, her brow furrowed in concern. Before she could respond, Floria elaborated, “If you don’t answer, he might just show up here.”“He’d do that?” She repeated, a hint of amusement creeping into her voice. She chuckled softly and continued toward her seat, her heels clicking on the floor as she ascended the short staircase. “Why would he do that?”Floria’s response was immediate. “Because he’d be worried.”Cressida’s giggles trailed behind her as she reached her desk, her lips curvin

The sleek car pulled up in front of the company, its model sending shockwaves of excitement through the crowd.“Wow!”The collective gasp was followed by hands covering mouths, eyes glued to the vehicle as if mesmerized. As gazes drifted to the license plate, speculation ran rampant.‘Could it be her? Why’d she arrive on such an enigmatic ride when Felix and the Chairman opted for more understated models?’“You can get out now, ma.” Easton said, his voice a gentle prompt. The plan had been to turn heads, and with attention firmly fixed on her, Floria stepped forward, her timing perfectly choreographed. With a slight bow, she opened the door, greeting, “welcome, ma.”Cressida grabbed her bag, took a soft breath, and stepped out, her heel touching the ground precisely. For a moment, she paused, then descended, her movements fluid.Floria stepped aside, allowing Cressida to lead the way before closing the door and falling into step behind her, bag in hand, her gaze cast downward. As Cres

“Rule number one, take care of yourself,”“Two, if anything goes wrong, call me,”“And then there’s the third rule—the most crucial one. Show them you’re a force not to be reckoned with.”A smile curled onto Cressida’s lips as she recalled Alaric’s instructions. Despite his objections, the chairman had insisted she return to work today, and Alaric had reluctantly agreed to let her go. He wanted her to dress elegantly for the office, but she had other plans and thanks to Floria, she was now dressed in a casual yet stylish outfit—a crisp white blouse paired with fitted green trousers and a pair of heels that’d make her presence known without drawing too much attention. As she stepped out, a delicate necklace with intertwined G and K pendants caught the light, a customized gift from Alaric that added a touch of sophistication to her outfit. In her hand, she carried a sleek rectangular handbag, a gift from Easton. With Floria having taken care of her notebook and laptop, she was free to

Anna nodded, her face still cast downward in embarrassment, and she turned slightly toward Cressida, her voice barely above a whisper. “Thank you, ma. I’ll be forever grateful for your generosity.” Her voice cracked as tears welled up in her eyes again.A warm smile spread across Cressida’s lips as she enveloped Anna in a gentle hug. “You owe me nothing,” she said softly. “But if you insist, then focus on your studies. I want to see you graduate with flying colors.”Anna sniffled and nodded reassuringly. “I promise,” she vowed, her voice filled with determination. “I won’t let you down. I’ll graduate as the overall best student.”Alaric cleared his throat, drawing their attention. “I deserve a hug as well.” He said, and Cressida’s face furrowed, unclear. He smirked, adding, “you’re showing her kindness. Shouldn’t you be gracious enough to appreciate me, too?” Cressida chuckled softly and brushed off his comment. “Let’s pack this meal for dinner. It’s getting late.” She instructed, fa

Anna tightened her arms around Cressida, her head nestling into the warmth of her shoulder as she sniffled, trying to stop the flow of tears. “Thank you.”A soft smile spread across Cressida’s face as she tenderly rubbed Anna’s head with one hand and gently patted her back with the other. “It’s fine.” She murmured, her voice a gentle whisper, allowing Anna to shift and move however she needed to without constraint. As Anna’s head found its comfortable spot, she let out a deep breath and closed her eyes, her body slowly relaxing. Minutes ticked by, and she drifted off to sleep. But the sweet calm was shattered by the smell of burning stew. “Hun?!” They exclaimed in unison, eyes wide with alarm.Anna’s head shot up, and she rushed to check the stew, while Cressida, still disoriented, forgot to grab a napkin and opened the lid with her bare hand. “Oh!” A painful moan escaped Cressida’s lips as she managed to control her reflexes, preventing the lid from clattering to the floor and care
