White Flower

I blow out the strands of hair across my face, turning to look at my father who had slapped me.

My cheek stung but I ignored it.

"We had sent you to school to study, but instead of studying, you're going around with men. You are a whore, just like your mother!" Mrs Athanas spat in disgust. Her eyes held so much hatred for me but I was already used to it.

Her remark about my mother threw me into a fit of rage and I glared at her.

They started this by calling my mother into it, they shouldn't blame me for the way I behaved.

And she had said that I slept with a man? I didn't even need to ask who had told them such a thing because Eileen stood behind her mother, giving me a coy smile.

“I was with a man, so what? Were you married to my father when you gave birth to your daughter?" I asked aggressively, watching as their faces changed.

All through the years, they tried to hide that Eileen was an illegitimate child, giving her the name of a legitimate child.

“Are you forgetting that Eileen is the illegitimate child and not me?!"

But just because they hide the truth, doesn't stop it from being the truth.

I had thrown shades at Eileen and called her a bastard. I couldn't forget that if not for her mother, my mother would still be alive.

“Ruelle!" Mr Athanas yelled in anger, he raised his hand to hit me but I was quick to avoid it this time, preventing him from hitting me.

I could see the rage in his eyes as he glared at me, his nostrils wide.

"So this is how the eldest miss of this family is treated,” I heard a familiar voice saying, the sound of his wheelchair could be heard rolling against the floor.

Spinning around sharply, I watched as Killian was wheeled into the room by his driver. My face lit up in surprise when he was wheeled to my front.

What was Killian still doing here? I thought he left.

It seemed as if he was sitting protectively in from of me but I knew better than that.

Mr. and Mrs. Athanas' face pales when they see Killian, they didn't expect him to be here.

“Ki-Killian.. what are you doing here?" Mr Athanas stuttered, looking surprised.

"You didn't tell me he was the one that dropped you off,” Mr. Athanas glared at me furiously, it seemed like he wanted to push the blame on me.

"Your eldest daughter didn't come home last night and when she does, you immediately slap her and accuse her of such a thing? Mr. Athanas I would like to remind you that this is my fiancee, if she is not being treated properly then I'd be taking her with me,” Killian threatened. He sounded as if he was serious.

“You want to take my sister away, do you have the money to take care of her? Or do you plan on selling her engagement ring to do that?” Eileen asked. She looked at Killian in disdain not bothering to cover it.

The room temperature dropped immediately after she said this, evidence of Killian's anger.

I laughed in anger when I heard Eileen's statement. No matter how broke he was, Killian was still my fiance. She had no right to talk to him that way.

"Do you not know how to discipline your daughter properly? Or you let her run her mouth?” Killian asked coldly. Mr. Athanas shook his head, gesturing for Eileen to keep quiet.

He might be broke but he was the son of the Lexingtons, he still had the power of the Lexington name.p

“She just cares about her sister way too much, please, do not mind the child,” Mrs. Athanas tried to explain Eileen’s words.

“Cares about me too much? Wasn't she the one that said I had slept with a man last night?" I asked angrily. They kept bringing up excuses to cover up for what she does, and each time they did so I felt disgusted.

“You know she just thought… “ Mrs. Athanas laughed awkwardly, signaling me with her eyes to stop talking but I wasn't done.

"You accuse me of doing such a thing when you are the one that sleeps around with Gabriel,” I spat out. I watched with satisfaction as her face twisted with fear. She instantly panicked, shaking her head to deny it.

She was so used to upholding her white flower image and wouldn't let anything destroy it.

“Sister, why are you lying to them? I didn't do such a thing, why would you say that?” Eileen started crying, tears streaming down her face.

I stared at her in shock, baffled at her acting capabilities.

“Ruelle! How can you say such a thing about your sister? And that without proof too," Mr. Athanas screamed angrily, the veins on his face popping.

“You can actually say such a defaming thing about her, what if she gets depressed? Do you want her to be sad? I always knew you were wicked,” Mrs. Athanas pointed fingers at me, going to console her daughter.

I laughed at the difference in the treatment, ignoring the ache I felt in my heart.

"Hurry up and apologize to her now!” Mr. Athanas ordered, walking towards me to pull me.

“Do you think I'm so little that you ignore my existence and go ahead to treat my wife as you please?” Killian asked, making him stop in his tracks.

"N-no, that's not… " Mr. Athanas trailed off, looking between Killian and I.

"Get whatever you need to get, we're leaving,” Killian said suddenly and I knew he was talking to me.

I looked at him, confused. We are leaving? Where are we going?

“Unless you wish to remain in this house, then go ahead.”

That was when I snapped out of my thoughts, shaking my head I instantly moved to get my things.

What I had wasn't much so it didn't take long for me to be done packing.

"Sister, are you actually going to follow a man home?” Eileen said and I turned to her coldly.

“So what?" I asked, my voice not holding any emotions.

“It's not like I'm wanted here. I was accused without any proof and my father believed. When I did the same I was asked to bring the proof. Is that fair?" I was looking at Eileen but the words were directed at my father.

The difference between Eileen's and my accusation was that mine accusation towards her were true. Eileen has been having sexual relationships with Gabriel even when we were engaged.

After hearing what I had said, his face was filled with guilt but it quickly hardened.

“I'd be inviting you all for the wedding," Killian said then turned around and left.

Without looking back, I followed him out.
