Hanging Over Us

MARK

My driver drove Vector and I to the court. It turned out that Brent’s application to get us a private hearing of the case pulled through and the hearing was today.

I decided to use my driver because I didn’t want to drive the car myself.

Vector and I were too agitated and nervous for that.

“Brent is such a fantastic lawyer,” Vector said, breaking the silence between us.

We hadn’t said much to each other since Brent called the day before to give us the positive news. Not that we were beefing each other, but the truth was that Vector and I had been consumed with the thought of what the outcome might be.

The end of this would either be the freedom for Vector and me, or it would turn our lives upside down.

Vector would be affected greatly; he might even spend the rest of his life in jail if it goes badly, because he already took the fall, and I would definitely be dragged into it.

Our lives might as well be over.

So those were the thoughts that consumed us, so much so that we couldn

MARKI only became less worried when I got a call from the cop this morning.“Mr. Mark, she is back to her apartment,” he had told me.I had sighed with deep relief because all night, I was worried sick about Alexa. Even after Vector left, I tried to rest a little, but I just couldn’t.What if Alexa had gone somewhere and hurt herself? What if Donald Shell had gotten to her again?Different thoughts flew through my mind all night, almost making me lose my mind, so much so that by morning, I knew that if I didn’t get dressed and come to my company, I was going to lose it completely.I could be at my company and still be searching for Alexa, and if by mid morning I didn’t find her, I would take things to a more serious extent, but then the cop had called, relieving me of that.“How is she? Does she look fine?” I asked him.“She looks the same, sir,” he responded.I wasn’t surprised by his response because I knew that Alexa would still be hurting from everything that she had gone through

ALEXAI woke up feeling better than I had been the previous day, but Gina wasn’t in bed, and when I turned around, she was getting dressed for work.“Good morning,” she greeted. “Good morning, Gina,” I said, rising from the bed. “I am sorry. I didn’t mean to sleep this late,” I apologized.“You were tossing and turning all night,” Gina said. She was still sounding a little harsh, as though she still didn’t want me to be here, but I pushed that out of my mind. She was like that when I arrived last night, and even till when we slept off, and it didn’t make me leave, so it wouldn’t start making me feel bad, and besides, I would have to leave this morning anyway. I was certain that my secretary would have gotten to my apartment already. However, Gina’s statement made me recall how terrible last night had been.I had thought that being with someone else would keep me from experiencing the dreams, but I was wrong.I had the nightmare again.Donald Shell came taunting me, and it was even w

MARKI paced around my living room floor, worried sick.“You are going to bore a hole through your floor, Mark,” Vector told me.“She is not at her apartment, Vector, and the cop has no idea where she could possibly have gone,” I snapped. “That was his damn job!” I bellowed in annoyance.“Not to upset you, Mark, but his specific job was to watch over her apartment and to ensure that no one came in to harass or assault her,” Vector said. “He only did the right thing by informing you of what he thought,” Vector added.I glared at him.He knew that I didn’t care for his damn opinion in moments like this, and yet, he gave it anyway, making me more upset.“Were you expecting him to follow her around?” Vector asked.“You have just upset me, Vector,” I responded.“I am sorry,” he apologized, raising his hand in surrender like he always did.“If you know you are going to be pissing me off all night, then you might as well leave,” I told Vector.“I am here because you sounded deeply worried ab

ALEXAGina and I stared at each other for a few seconds without saying a word, but I couldn’t stop thinking about what I just saw.Noelle had always been hammering on the uncanny resemblance between Gina and the forgotten actress, but I never paid her any mind.Even when she showed me this exact picture and I had noticed that the younger girl looked like Gina, I hadn’t dwelt on it.Gina’s hair color was different now, and the picture was taken several years ago, so she didn’t look exactly like that anymore, but now, I realized that it was because Gina had changed her looks.“You are Lina Barry’s sister,” I repeated.“No, I am not,” Gina said, snapping. She hadn’t said a single word since, and the first thing she thought to do was deny something that was glaring? The way she even held the picture possessively and tightly to her chest as though it would be taken away from her confirmed my suspicion.“Yes, you are,” I responded firmly. “But how…?” I started to ask, but confusion made my

  • Till Divorce Do Us Part   Out Of Pity

ALEXAGoing to my dad’s house would have been an option if he knew what was happening, but there were reasons why I didn’t want to.My dad would immediately suspect that something was wrong if he saw me there because he knew that I wouldn’t just show up there to spend the night on my own accord.I didn’t even think I wanted to go back there and have to see Clara. There was only one place my mind could think of, and I found myself right in front of her door. I intentionally did not go with my car because I didn’t think I could drive in my state of mind.I rang the doorbell and Gina opened the door. Her eyes widened with shock when she saw me.“Alexa, what are you doing here?” She asked me.“Hi, Gina,” I greeted, trying to force a smile.Gina looked around outside her apartment hastily, and fear crossed her eyes, making me wonder why she seemed so afraid to be seeing me here.“It’s just me,” I answered the question that she didn’t ask, but that didn’t seem to pacify her.“What are you d
