ALEXA

I had to call Gina, and thankfully, she picked up almost immediately.

“I got your text, Gina,” I said without wasting time.

“I didn’t want to bother you with a call, just in case you are busy, that’s why I sent a text instead,” Gina said, sounding a little shaky.

For a minute, I wondered if she was sounding shaky because of the tone of my voice or something else, because she sounded a little scared to me, or maybe it was the connection that was playing some tricks on me.

“I am sorry for snapping,” I quickly apologized because I didn’t want her to feel scared around me.

“No, you didn’t snap, Alexa,” she said.

Now she sounded very sad and I knew for a fact that this time around, the connection wasn’t playing any dirty tricks on me.

“What’s wrong, Gina?” I asked her, worried about her.

“It’s nothing,” Gina said, and the moment the words came out of her mouth, I knew without a doubt that she was lying to me.

“What did Donald send?” I asked her.

One thing I had noticed about Gina was

  • Till Divorce Do Us Part   The Worst That Could Happen

ALEXA“Oh, you are awake,” the nurse said as she walked into my ward.Even though I couldn’t see outside of the window right now, I knew that it was dark already. Somehow, I had dozed off after seeing the news, but it had been one of the worst sleeps I had had recently. From running away from Donald Shell who wanted to destroy me by all means to nosy press who wanted to get information. Between the two of them, I couldn’t tell which plagued me more, but I was just glad and relieved to be awake.“Yes, I am,” I answered. “What about my dad?” I asked almost immediately. The moment I opened my eyes, I thought about him with deep worry. She had told me that he was still in surgery, but that was hours ago.“He is out of surgery,” she answered with a small smile. And that was enough to tell me that he wasn’t dead.“Did he make it?” I had to ask.Regardless of the smile she gave me, I was still too worried not to ask.“Yes, he did,” she answered.“I want to see him right now,” I said, trying

  • Till Divorce Do Us Part   We Can't Be Friends

MARK“Mona, what are you doing here?” I asked Mona, not bothered by how harsh I sounded. Mona looked slightly crestfallen.“I don’t know you to be hostile, Mark,” she responded.“How did you even find my house?” I asked her.“You are quite popular in this city, Mark, so finding out where you stay is pretty much not a big deal,” she answered.Still, I wasn’t comfortable with seeing Mona at my house.“What are you doing here?” I asked her again.“I came to say hello to an old friend,” Mona answered. “Is there something wrong with that?” She asked.“I didn’t give you an invitation,” I responded tightly.“Which is even disheartening because I thought that when I called and informed you that I had moved back to Paris, you would have showed some form of interest to even bond a little,” Mona said.I became nearly speechless.Mona being here wasn’t something I had ever thought I would be having to deal with.Back in Toronto when I went to business school, we did have a fling. However, nothin

  • Till Divorce Do Us Part   Too Fragile

MARK“You haven’t moved an inch since I left you here, Mark,” Vector said as he returned to the hospital reception. It had been hours since Mr. Silver went into surgery. It had been hours since Alexa declared that she didn’t want to set her eyes on me.Reyna had waited for another hour, but when she realized that Mr. Silver wasn’t going to be out of the Theater any time soon, she had had to leave.“I will be back with flowers for Mr. Silver. I just have to pick up some groceries,” she had told Vector and me.And then another hour later, Vector had excused himself.“I am famished, man,” he had said. “My stomach is rumbling, and if I don’t get something to eat, I might just be rushed into the ICU as well,” he had teased. “Are you also going to be leaving?” He had asked.“Not yet,” I had responded.Vector had left, and now, he was back and with a pack of food.“I went to your company, thinking that you might have gone to get some work done, but I was informed that you haven’t been to the

  • Till Divorce Do Us Part   My Haunting Shadow

ALEXAI might have dozed off for a few seconds, or maybe minutes after the nurse left, I wasn’t sure, but when I opened my eyes again, the aching in my head had dissipated. She did inform me that Mark was waiting with his friends to see me, and my guess was that he would be with Vector, and I had said no.I was too ashamed and embarrassed to even let Mark see me in this condition. He warned me, but I was too stubborn to listen.I should have just stuck to the deal we got with Mr. Porshia and Gregory, but I messed things up because of anger, and then I let Donald Shell fool me with his niceness and friendliness. Despite the fact that I had filed a restraining order against Mark, he still came to see me. A part of me felt that he didn’t come to gloat, but I wasn’t sure, and more than that, I was too ashamed to set eyes on him, so it was best if he just stayed away from me.“I don’t want to see anyone, especially Mark Ronaldo. Please, ensure that no one does,” I had told her, and I mean

  • Till Divorce Do Us Part   Unchanged Mind

MARKAfter Vector left to speak with the hospital management, my mind drifted back to one of the worst days of my life, and my blood ran cold. Some years back, my dad had had a heart attack.Thinking back now, it dawned on me why he had had the heart attack. The company was going through some major setbacks, and he was trying everything possible to fix things. Unfortunately, he didn’t think to tell me about it. He had thought that I didn’t need to know, or that I couldn’t handle it.Until my dad’s demise, he never thought I was mature enough to handle the company.“Handling a company is not the same thing as taking care of your car, Mark,” he had said to me. “You will need a tough skin and a hard heart to swim through, and you are still too young and fragile to understand it,” he had told me.None of the words sat well with me because I had been eager to work in the company. Not that I wanted to take over the company while he was alive, but I would have appreciated working for him, bu

  • Till Divorce Do Us Part   We Wait

MARK“Is she okay?” I couldn’t help but ask, but my jaw tightened when Donald Shell asked the same question at the same time.“Is she okay?” He also asked.I glared at him, and he returned my glare.“She passed out from shock at her…the company,” the doctor managed to say.I understood his confusion at the right pronoun to use because of the recent news of Donald Shell taking over, but his information made me more upset.“And yet, you are here asking if she is okay as if you have no idea what happened to her?” I turned and asked Donald through clenched teeth.“I am only here to ensure that she is okay,” Donald retorted.Vector touched my arm to get my attention, and when I turned to him, he leaned into me and spoke in a whisper so that no one would hear what he was saying.“I don’t think you should pay any attention to Donald Shell,” Vector said to me. “It is obvious why he is here; to gloat, and seeing you riled up will only give him the satisfaction that he wants, and I don’t want t
