Chapter 9

Author: Heroic Thief
Vincent shook his head, unable to believe what was happening. He suddenly jerked his head up, fixing me with a murderous look. "You're the one who did this! You're the son of the bitch who buried it here! You set us up!"

I sneered. "Do you think you're the only ones who can frame us? If you hadn't been asking for trouble by using the Divine Goblet as a toilet, you wouldn't be in this mess right now!"

Vincent shook his head, unable to believe what was happening. He suddenly jerked his head up, fixing me with a murderous look. "You're the one who did this! You're the son of the bitch who buried it here! You set us up!"I sneered. "Do you think you're the only ones who can frame us? If you hadn't been asking for trouble by using the Divine Goblet as a toilet, you wouldn't be in this mess right now!"Vincent fixed me with a murderous glare, while Uncle George and Aunt Talia looked utterly devastated, knowing full well that they were completely powerless to change the outcome. It was then that a mob of furious tribesmen rushed forward, bound them hand and foot, and tied them to wooden posts as thick as fence logs. They were lifted and carried straight toward the bonfire in the middle of the settlement that was blazing violently.Uncle George and the others knew immediately what was coming and began to scream in terror, desperately begging for pity.Uncle George no longer possessed

Uncle George spat out bloody saliva and kept roaring, "It's a shame that Mom died early, leaving an outsider like you to run the family and lord it over me for all these years! You ought to have died long ago, Heidi!"Vincent also lifted his head, his features—once reasonably handsome—now horribly contorted with bitterness. "Aunt Heidi!"He shrieked wretchedly, his tone carrying no trace of affection, only pure hatred. "You always said I was your favorite since I was little! You said you loved me like a real son! How can you just stand there and let me die!"He stopped for a moment, a cruel gleam of satisfaction flashing in his eyes. "If we can't live, then none of us will! I'd like to see who's more afraid now!"Mom closed her eyes as tears rolled silently down her cheeks. They were tears of utter despair, marking the moment she completely gave up on them.Rova looked grim as she turned toward me and asked slowly, "Did you take the Divine Goblet, dear Chosen One?"Uncle George d

Mom, Dad, and I were moved from a shabby thatched hut to a stone house beside Rova's place. It was still sparsely equipped, but we could finally sleep soundly at night.I looked toward Mom and spoke up softly, breaking the silence, "W-What if the tribesmen do something to them…"I was naturally referring to Uncle George and the others.Mom sighed and said, "That is their fate to bear, Kingsley."I felt instantly reassured after hearing that, which removed the last trace of anxiety in me. I had feared that Mom would hesitate at the last moment due to family ties.Mom, Dad, and I spent the first part of the night resting inside the stone house. In the depths of the night, hurried drumming broke out from the tribe, like the furious roar of a dying beast or death-summoning curse, causing our hearts to sink in panic. It wasn't long before deferential footsteps approached outside the dwelling, and the high-ranking elder from before came to our door personally to escort us outside, whe

Dad stepped in front of Mom to shield her, glaring at Uncle George. "How do you even have the nerve to say such a thing, George? You nearly killed Kingsley! You're nothing but a monster!"Uncle George turned his fury on Dad. "It's none of your damn concern since this is the Walker family's business! You're nothing but a mere outsider! What right do you have to butt in, Dominic?" Mom was deeply heartbroken as she listened to Uncle George's vicious statement. She had suffered so many grievances and poured out so much effort for that family and for Uncle George, her younger brother. Yet in return for everything she did, he had gone and nearly cost her own son his life. She looked coldly at Uncle George, addressing him by his full name in a frighteningly calm voice. "I've gone above and beyond for you all these years, George Walker. You ate my food, drank my drinks, and lived under my roof."When did I ever mistreat you in the slightest? How did you treat me in the end? How did you re

Uncle George's face went deathly pale as he stared at me, as though he couldn't believe that I had survived the snake pit.I merely sneered. I had brought Mom and Dad to this place, so there was no way I would come unprepared. I had learned about this tribe's tradition while researching, so I had made sure to pack clove oil solution and a stun baton.I had sprayed clove oil solution onto our clothes beforehand as a precaution. I could feel my scalp crawling when I was confined inside the wooden box, but I forced myself to seize the largest, leading snake. I knocked it out with a stun baton, causing the remaining smaller snakes around me to become less inclined to approach me.In the meantime, those tribesmen noticed me and immediately fell to the ground in unison, bowing and kneeling in reverence.Rova spoke up, "Those who can undergo an exorcism and still come out alive are said to possess the holiest soul in our tribe—and are considered to be the Chosen One of our tribe."They

Uncle George slammed the lid of the box shut and sat directly on top of it, making absolutely sure I couldn't break out of it no matter what.Mom and Dad watched this scene in disbelief, their expressions freezing for an instant before turning into terror and rage as they rushed over, screaming. "What are you doing, George?" Mom yelled, her voice cracked and hysterical with tears.Mom and Dad struggled to pull Uncle George down from the box. Dad pushed himself to the limit, his face turning bright red, but Uncle George didn't budge at all, even adjusting to sit more comfortably.Aunt Talia and Vincent also realized what was happening right after that and scrambled up onto the box one after another, terrified that I might escape."Vincent is my only son! He has been sheltered and pampered since childhood, and snakes are his greatest fear. He would die if they shut him in there!" Uncle George didn't sound even remotely guilty. Instead, he acted like he was doing us a massive favo
