I finished the breakfast that he prepared, quickly changed into my clothes from the night before, cleaned the dishes and then paced around his sitting area. I was busy pushing some of the piano keys when there was a heavy knock at the door, causing me to startle. “Koa, you arse! Open the damn door!” A deep British voice shouted from beyond the door.
I got up and wearily opened the door. “Koa’s left for work.” I answered bluntly. The guy looked me up and down while I lifted my right eyebrow up towards my hairline and crossed my arms defiantly. He smirked then held out a hand.
“You must be Eira. Pleasure. I’m Thomas.” I nodded curtly.
“Cool. What do you want with Koa and how exactly do you know my name?” I interrogated while looking at him skeptically.
He chuckled, “Koa talked a lot about you. He never recovered from the heartbreak you caused. We were mates back in England.” He smirked while answering, unfazed by my stature and tone.
“Okay. Well you missed him, he already left for the office. Do you know where his office is?” He nodded, grinning. “Great. When you visit him there, tell him I’m not going to dinner with him. Not tonight, not tomorrow, not ever. Oh and you got it wrong. He broke me, not the other way around.” I gathered up my items and followed Thomas over towards the elevator. He was deep in thought as he stuffed his hands into his front pockets, staying silent for a brief moment.
“Has he told you anything about the past few years?” I was a bit shocked at his random question but quickly shook my head in response. He laughed, “So you don’t even know why the poor chap left you?” Again, I shook my head. “Or about his father?” This time I turned to face him and glared at him in annoyance. He smirked, failing miserably to hide his amusement. “There were some guys that wanted to hurt your family and everyone associated with them. The best way to hurt Koa is to take the girl who owns his heart.” I rolled my eyes, scoffing quietly.
“Then they had the wrong girl if they thought it was me. He’s never loved me like that.” Thomas let out a booming laugh. “What?” I demanded.
“He was in love with you before you were even aware of his crush. We got to know each other quite well since I have the same background as you, princess. Anyways, they left so that you would be and could be safe. But then, a couple of months ago, they found Koa and Bodhi. Koa was beaten pretty badly and they gave him a choice.” I was masking my curiosity as Thomas was spilling information. “That choice, little princess, was his father or you for some ransom money.” I rolled my eyes and turned to face the doors of the elevator once more. He gave me a questioning look when I did these actions so I sighed before responding to his previous statements.
“I find that to not be likely whatsoever. Koa would never allow someone to take the place of his family, especially the family that shares his blood.” I stated simply with a noncommittal shrug. I could see Thomas’ reflection smugly smirking at me. He was really beginning to get on my damn nerves. As the elevator chimed letting us know that we were now at the Lobby, I readied myself to walk out.
“Oh but he would for the girl who owns his heart. Just meet up and ask him about it tonight.” Was all that Thomas said as he walked out of the elevator. I groaned in frustration then walked home. Once I closed the front door behind me, my mother was standing in front of me while she greeted me.
“What in the world are you doing at home?” I looked at her skeptically as she crossed her arms across her chest. “You will go out with Koa tonight. Do not try me, today Eira.” I rolled my eyes when she pulled me close so that I could hear her growling command. “Do not roll your eyes at me young lady. You will do as you're told, do you understand me?” She growled while holding my chin firmly. I nodded curtly and when she released me, I ran up the stairs to my bedroom. I hated when she acted like my father used to. I assume it’s part of this business and the stresses that come with it. I closed my bedroom door behind me then noticed that my older brothers were all waiting for me in my room.
“What do you all want?” I spat while glaring at the three of them. I was surprised when Dominick spoke up first. He was the oldest but typically stayed out of things like what was occurring. He never cared much for the dramas and always was on the quieter side of things. That aspect was the reason he made such a good soldier and right hand man.
“Just go to this dinner tonight. What’s the worst that could happen, Dawnie?” I rolled my eyes at him. He waited for me to speak while leaning against the door frame leading into my personal bathroom.
“Are you serious, Dom? Are you of all people doing this to me? Do you not remember the last time I was close to him in any way?” Dominick pushed himself from his position and calmly walked over to me.
“We should talk.” He calmly stated then looked pointedly towards Isaac and Landon for them to leave the room. They silently agreed as they always did and then left Dom and I alone in my bedroom. “Sit.” His simple spoken word was gentle as he approached closer, seemingly acting like I was an easily spooked animal. He gestured towards my bed and my stubbornness was starting to show as I crossed my arms defiantly. I shook my head while glaring up at his 6’1” frame. “Sit now!” He growled, causing my instincts to take over and I sat on the edge of my bed nervously.
“Why Dom? I thought you, out of all the people we know, would understand…” I mumbled under my breath while watching him anxiously pace in front of me. I watched as my nerves began getting the better of me. I’ve never known Dominick to act like this towards anything in life. Even when we were younger, he was always the calmest. Slow to react causing him to approach wisely.
“You don’t know everything! Hell, you barely know anything about this! Mother demanded that I not say any of it. Koa didn’t want to leave you. He did so in order to keep you safe. Do you remember how Father died?” I would be lying if I said that his question didn’t take me by surprise. ‘What in the actual fuck does our father have to do with any of this?!’ He stopped pacing and looked towards me desperately awaiting my answer. I shook my head in response. He tore his fingers roughly through his hair. “He was taken out. The people that Koa has been protecting you from were the same clan that wiped out our Father!” He shouted at me. I flinched instinctively as my brother grew angry. This truly was not something that I had seen often in my life. ‘That means everything that Thomas had said in the elevator earlier was correct?’ I thought to myself.
My thoughts were quickly interrupted when my brother’s voice interjected, this time softer and calmer. As the dreaded words left his lips, he adjusted the jacket that he was wearing. “So, you will go with him to dinner tonight. No more arguing, please.” After finishing his statement, he abruptly turned and left the room. I frowned as I stood to take a shower and choose the outfit for this non date-date.
Recap: “You’re right it’s not. It’s safer. It means I know my twin brother won’t ever leave me. It means that you also keep everyone else safe and aware using the God given skills that you have.” I felt the familiar stinging behind my eyes causing me to look down at my hands. The next thing I know, I was pulled into one of the tightest hugs that I had felt in a long time. I broke down then, bawling and gasping for breath while hiding my face into my twin brother’s shoulder. “I’m sorry E. I—I didn’t think of it like that…” I nodded at his hushed words while he slowly rubbed circles on my back. Once I was able to pull myself back together, I sat beside him on the cot until he fell asleep and Koa came to talk to me. —--------------------------- He motioned for me to follow him out of the room, which I agreed to. “He apparently went with Isaac and Landon to help on a recon mission. You can’t react if you want to know all of the details, do you understand?” I rolled my eyes at my husba
Recap: “I can be okay with that.” I walked up to him so that I could wrap my arms around his waist and rest my head against his chest. He pulled me in closer while resting his cheek on the top of my head. “Thank you.” He whispered against my hair. I looked up at him with a mischievous grin causing him to look at me questioningly. “What are you thinking?” Instead of giving him a verbal response, I slid my hands to the buttons on his shirt before undoing them. He chuckled before lifting me and carrying me into a luxurious bedroom for our first time as a married couple. —------------------------------- Our honeymoon was filled with different adventures and experiences. On our last day of the honeymoon, I finally convinced him to go swimming in the ocean with me. “Babe, is this really necessary? You know I don’t care for swimming let alone for swimming with fish.” I chuckled at his panicked expression. “You’re the big bad hitman but afraid of fish?” I teased him, causing him to give a
Recap: “Let’s do it.” I grinned while standing on my tiptoes so that I could kiss his lips. Once everyone was done eating their food it was time to cut the cake. Koa and I grinned at each other as we were each handed a piece. Azzie was standing next to me and Ethan was standing next to Koa. We moved in like we were going to get each other with the pieces of cake, but at the last second I smashed my piece of wedding cake into Ethan’s face while Koa did Azzie’s. The room erupted into fits of laughter while our second hands looked shocked. The rest of the night was filled with laughter and dancing. Our DJ asked everyone to leave the room so that Koa and I could have one last dance before the wedding was completely finished, giving us a moment to catch our breath. —-------------------------- I was surprised when Koa did not go back to the penthouse or even stay at my family’s house but instead drove to the airport. “What are we doing here?” I turned in the front seat to get a better loo
Recap:Forming a cross over where my heart was located, I spoke, “I promise. I will do as I’m told just this once.” He chuckled while shaking his head. I tossed my head back as laughter slipped through my lips. “You know that’s one of the reasons that you love me.” I smirked as our eyes met, our expressions becoming more serious. He gave a wolfish grin while nodding slowly before pulling me into him.“That and so much more, little Dawn.” He chuckled, planting a swift kiss on my temple before holding me tightly. “I’m so sorry for all of this though.” I nodded while rubbing his back gently.“I know.” I whispered.—--------------------The day has finally come for the wedding. It has definitely been a stressful week leading up to this day but now here I am standing in front of the mirror taking in my reflection. I turned towards the door when a light tap sounded from the wood before my sister walked in. “You look amazing, E!” She gushed causing me to give a slight nod. “You doing okay?”
Recap: “Then do not ever, and I mean ever, lie to me again.” I warned before standing up to join the rest of my family. Before leaving the living room I turned back towards him, speaking up, “Now you can either come be a part of us or you can sit out here by yourself. If it were up to me though, I’d be making you get off your arse and follow me back to the rest of our families.” He nodded, standing up, quickly grabbing my hand in his. I nodded and began to walk, but he pulled me in closer to him. He brushed his thumb across my cheek before pulling me in for a brief but sweet kiss on the lips. —------------------------- The wedding was this next Saturday so there was a lot occurring at the family house at the moment. The setup for the celebration was looking gorgeous and the weather was fairly comfortable so that the wedding shouldn’t run into any hiccups since it was being held outside. Recap:“You need to talk to him.” I gave him a skeptical glare. “Just listen to me for a minute. I think you do need to talk to him about this. Wait until you’ve calmed down and then talk to him. Be honest about all of it. You’re supposed to be marrying him in just a couple of weeks and you can’t start a marriage like this.” I nodded slowly as I took in his words, knowing deep down that he was right.—-----------------------After eating our food and continuing towards the lighter conversation topics, we paid the bill and left. We decided on picking up a few items at the local shop so that I could give the big surprise announcement to the rest of the family. Once we finished all of the rest of our errands, we made our way back home. I sighed in frustration when I saw Koa pacing back and forth on the front porch. “Talk to him.” My brother’s voice came out as a warning command causing me to nod.As we climbed out of my brother’s truck, Koa came around the corner of the house. “Where in
Recap:“What the hell is that thing?” I blurted out while watching the monitor.“That thing, would be your child.” Doctor Williamson chuckled, causing me to childishly stick out my tongue at him. “I’d say that you are only about a month and a half along. Placing your due date around late May or early June.”—--------I could hear the echoed voices around me as I became hyper aware of the heartbeat thumping throughout the small exam room. I was snapped out of my thoughts when I felt Koa grasp my hand. I looked from the little monitor up towards him just as he brought our hands up to his lips, placing a gentle kiss to my knuckles. I gave a small smile while he watched me closely.
Pregnant?!?!I stared down at the pregnancy test placed on my bathroom counter as the timer set on my phone chimed in the background. “Well are you gonna look at it?” Azzie asked me from her spot against the bathroom door frame. When I didn’t respond she walked over next to me, gathering the small test into her hands. “Holy crap!”I nodded meekly while feeling my hands beginning to shake. My breathing began to pick up speed in short huffs so she pulled me into her embrace.“Are you going to tell Koa?” I finally shifted to give her a skeptical look.“Of course I am! Why wouldn’t I?” I hissed. She shrugged while placing the test back onto the bathroom counter.“I
