Chapter 2

Author: Wealthy Dream
Teresa was taken aback for a second before she snapped, "Are you divorcing me because I didn't save you first?

"Like I said, I didn't see you. Keaton was badly injured too. If I hadn't rushed him to the hospital, he would have ended up with a scar on his forehead."

So, a scar on Keaton's forehead was way more important than my life.

Looking back, I should have known. Even though he had no relevant background, she still insisted on giving him a position in the company. She didn't just see him as a junior.

I couldn't be bothered to argue with her anymore, so I turned my head to the side. "My lawyer will send over the divorce papers."

The door to the room flew open, and Keaton rushed over to me with guilt written all over his face. "This isn't her fault, Mr. Stroud. It's my fault for getting injured in a spot that caught her eye.

"I shouldn't have made you drive on the highway that day just because I had a stomachache. If I had known this would happen, I would have taken sick leave. She wouldn't have had to deal with any of this."

With a worried look, Teresa stood in front of him. "This is between me and Lucien. It has nothing to do with you, so stop blaming yourself."

I fixed my cold gaze on Keaton, who stood behind Teresa with his head down. "You sabotaged the airbag and made me drive by pretending you had a stomachache. That's attempted murder. Do you think I'm just going to let that slide?"

His expression changed, but he quickly regained his composure. "It was Teresa's car, Mr. Stroud. I had no idea there was an issue with the airbag."

With a startled look, she glanced at him. Then, she walked over and tried to take my hand, but I pulled away.

Her brows were knitted together as she stared at me, her tone softening for once. "It was just an accident. I'll admit it was my fault, so can't we just leave it at that? You're doing fine, so stop being so worked up."

How was I doing fine? I barely survived, and that was considered fine? Meanwhile, Keaton got a scratch on his forehead, and it was treated like some huge deal.

I coldly stared at Teresa and firmly stated, "We're getting divorced. I will also get to the bottom of whether Keaton tried to kill me. I made it out alive, so whoever wanted me dead won't be getting away with it."

She snorted. "I know exactly what is on your mind, Lucien. You think something is going on between me and Keaton, and that's why you're making such a huge deal out of this.

"Don't you want the truth? I have an affair with him. You ditched me on our wedding night for work, and he was the one who stayed with me that night.

"Divorce me all you want, but you're walking away with nothing. Otherwise, don't even think about it."

While looking at Teresa's face twisted in anger, I felt like my chest was being crushed, and I could barely breathe.

On our wedding night, I was out drinking for the company and wound up in the hospital with a bleeding stomach. I called her over and over, but she never picked up. I never thought she had been spending the night with Keaton.

I felt blood rise in my throat, and I spat it right at her. "Get out."

Her expression changed slightly, her eyes showing a trace of worry. "You should really reconsider the divorce. It won't end well for either of us."

I clenched my hands into fists as I watched her leave. Just then, my phone rang out of nowhere.

I opened the message. It was last month's stomach cancer screening results. I stared at the screen for a long time and flashed a wry smile when I saw the words "late-stage cancer".

One week later, I went through my first chemotherapy. I writhed in pain on the bed, and the doctor sighed in resignation. "Things aren't looking great, Mr. Stroud. The rupture in your liver and gallbladder hasn't healed yet, and chemotherapy takes a heavy toll on the body. If you insist on continuing, I'm afraid—"Feeling weak, I looked at the doctor and then violently coughed up blood. "Will I make it another month?"The doctor frowned with a troubled look. "Only if—""No matter what, I have to survive for another month," I stated. After all, the day Teresa and Keaton faced their sentences was one month from now. If I didn't live to see that day, I would never find peace in death.…One month later, Dylan came to see me. His hands trembled a little as he held the flowers, and his voice was thick with emotion. "I've got news for you. Teresa got sentenced to 20 years, but the company lost everything and went bankrupt."I nodded with difficulty, signaling him to carry on. He pla

At the police station, Teresa looked at me in disbelief. "Did you call the police over something so trivial, Lucien? Can't we just talk things out between us instead of making a scene here? I'm your wife."She walked up to me with a cold glare, reaching out to grab my hand. "Let's go home. Stop bothering the police officers."With a grim expression, I pulled my hand away from her. "I'm done talking to you. Take it up with my lawyer."She looked me dead in the eye with menace. "What lawyer? I'm pregnant with your child. Keep this up and I'll get really mad."She was desperate to prevent me from contacting the police, probably because the share transfer agreement had already been set in motion. Meanwhile, Keaton was nowhere to be found.I scoffed. "You're so worked up, huh? Are you so afraid that I'll fight back? You know Keaton better than I do, Teresa. Besides, he's got a murder charge hanging over him for trying to kill me, and I can't just let that slide. Even if you help him to

Teresa played the perfect caretaker for a week before she finally showed her true colors.I handed over an apple to her. "It's too big, and I can't eat it unless it's steamed."She frowned at the apple, picked up the plate like she didn't want to, and headed for the door. Her phone rang just as she got there. She turned to look at me for a second and immediately closed the door, but it wasn't soundproof. "It has already been a week. What's taking so long with the share transfer agreement? How long do you expect me to keep taking care of Lucien?"Do you know how awful this week has been for me? He's been coughing up blood every day. What's taking so long for him to die?"The doctor says there's a six percent chance of getting better. That's nothing. He might as well die and save me the trouble."I let out a deep sigh when I heard that. My nose started to sting, and I felt like someone had ripped the soul out of me.I knew Teresa didn't love me and would do anything for Keaton. Bu

I heard Teresa yell, "What do you mean late-stage stomach cancer? It's a liver and gallbladder rupture. What kind of hospital can't even tell the difference?"I opened my eyes in a daze. She was sobbing like crazy, yelling at the doctors with her injured face. I tried to move my fingers, and the sharp beeping from the monitor made my ears ring. She called out, "He woke up. Please take another look at him. He never had stomach issues. How could he possibly have stomach cancer?"She clutched my hand and kneeled by the bed, mumbling nonstop, "How could you have stomach cancer? Your stomach has always been fine."I fixed my cold gaze on Teresa and swallowed the words on the tip of my tongue. For someone who didn't care, my pain only looked like a performance.I tried to pull my hand free, but she held on tight. "I'm not letting go, Lucien. I'm holding on to you forever."My tone was sharp as I looked her in the eye. "I've made up my mind about the divorce, Teresa. Stop making it hard

One day, Teresa snapped, "Seriously? How many times do I have to tell you there's nothing between me and Lucien anymore?"Back then, you were the one begging me to tie him up and bring him back. How can you act like I'm at fault? You're a hypocrite, Keaton."Keaton fired back, "You're calling me a hypocrite, huh? You and Lucien have been spending every day together in that room, and I've seen the way you look at him. It's different now."This is all on me. I shouldn't have come to you and messed up your life. You and Lucien would have had your happily ever after if I hadn't barged in and made things complicated."Things had been tense between them ever since I said I got her to stay with me when I worked on the sketches.Keaton had always been the jealous and paranoid type. I made that request on purpose to stir things up and let Teresa see his true colors.Honestly, I thought it would take a while. Who knew it would only take half a month for the cracks to show?Teresa remarked

Keaton took my phone and stared at Teresa with a grim expression. "Lucien spent his whole life chasing after you. Since his dying wish was to have you by his side, then be the good wife you never were and stay with him."He slammed the door shut with a loud bang, and she was so shaken that she almost fell over. She glared at me in disgust. "I'm carrying Keaton's child. I don't have any feelings for you. How do you think he would feel about you asking me that?"Without responding to Teresa, I spread the paper across the table, taped it in place, and began writing down the measurements based on the client's request. My silence drove her up the wall. She started yelling right next to me, "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you? You know how close Keaton and I are, and now you're trying to drive a wedge between us! I don't have feelings for you. No matter what you do, I'm not coming back to you."I kept my head down, carefully sketching each line. "Keaton knows I'm doing this on pur
