Chapter 3

Author: Wealthy Dream
I hustled day and night all these years just to show Teresa she made the right choice. I worked around the clock and pushed through social events to give her the life she asked for, but she had already betrayed me from the start.

I leaned my head back and sighed, tears rolling down my cheeks. For once in my life, I deserved to live for myself.

I got my lawyer to prepare the divorce papers and gave him the resignation letter I had written. He then delivered them both to her.

After taking care of everything, I quietly checked myself out of the hospital, blocked Teresa's number, and booked a flight to the beach.

I was a big fan of the sea. Back in college, I used to dream of working somewhere by the sea, getting a dog with someone I loved, and taking sunset walks on the beach.

However, Teresa never liked the sea. Later, after Keaton joined the company, I found out she was terrified of anything to do with the water because she had nearly drowned as a kid. That was why she left Norbury and came to Qrago.

A week after I left Qrago, I finally turned my phone back on. Upon seeing all the missed calls and messages, I sighed in resignation.

Teresa used to say the company would run just fine without me. Right now, she had finally started to see how much I actually mattered.

The caller ID "Wife" kept flashing on my phone. I hesitated for a moment and decided to hear what she had to say.

She shouted, "What the hell is wrong with you, Lucien? You disappeared without a word. Do you have any idea how many times Mr. Vexley has been calling? Even if you quit, you still need to send him your designs. Do you have work ethics?"

Silas Vexley had been my client for years. Back then, he was one of the hardest clients I ever had to win.

It was my wedding night, but he wouldn't take no for an answer. If I didn't drink with him, he would have canceled the whole deal.

My company was struggling in its early days, and I couldn't afford to turn down a client like him, so Teresa ended up getting the short end of the stick.

After that night, I bought her the bag she loved most, costing 20 thousand dollars. Meanwhile, I had been stuck wearing the same 38-dollar shirt for three years.

My hand tightened around the phone as a wave of sharp pain shot through my stomach. "I'm sick. Quitting is just my way of making sure I won't hold the company back.

"You used to say Keaton was better than me after he joined the company. You always blamed me for standing in his way. Now that I've given you both the stage, shouldn't you be thrilled?"

Teresa paused for a moment, then snapped, "The doctor said it's not life-threatening! Get back to the company now."

Was it not life-threatening? That was how she thought of my condition, huh?

I coughed hard into my hand and glanced at the blood in my palm. "If there's nothing else, stop calling me. Sign the divorce papers as soon as you can and make sure I get every penny I'm owed. From now on, any business goes through my lawyer."

Just as I ended the call, I saw notifications from my WhatsApp. Keaton had sent a bunch of intimate photos with Teresa. I pressed my fingers to my throbbing temples, breathing hard from the rage.

I stared at the keyboard for a long time before finally exiting the chat with him. It wasn't the time to make a move just yet.

Two weeks later, I suddenly got a call from an unknown number. I stared at the number for a long time before finally picking it up.

When I answered the call, Teresa's agonizing screams came through. "Help me, Lucien! Keaton is going to kill me and our baby!"

One week later, I went through my first chemotherapy. I writhed in pain on the bed, and the doctor sighed in resignation. "Things aren't looking great, Mr. Stroud. The rupture in your liver and gallbladder hasn't healed yet, and chemotherapy takes a heavy toll on the body. If you insist on continuing, I'm afraid—"Feeling weak, I looked at the doctor and then violently coughed up blood. "Will I make it another month?"The doctor frowned with a troubled look. "Only if—""No matter what, I have to survive for another month," I stated. After all, the day Teresa and Keaton faced their sentences was one month from now. If I didn't live to see that day, I would never find peace in death.…One month later, Dylan came to see me. His hands trembled a little as he held the flowers, and his voice was thick with emotion. "I've got news for you. Teresa got sentenced to 20 years, but the company lost everything and went bankrupt."I nodded with difficulty, signaling him to carry on. He pla

At the police station, Teresa looked at me in disbelief. "Did you call the police over something so trivial, Lucien? Can't we just talk things out between us instead of making a scene here? I'm your wife."She walked up to me with a cold glare, reaching out to grab my hand. "Let's go home. Stop bothering the police officers."With a grim expression, I pulled my hand away from her. "I'm done talking to you. Take it up with my lawyer."She looked me dead in the eye with menace. "What lawyer? I'm pregnant with your child. Keep this up and I'll get really mad."She was desperate to prevent me from contacting the police, probably because the share transfer agreement had already been set in motion. Meanwhile, Keaton was nowhere to be found.I scoffed. "You're so worked up, huh? Are you so afraid that I'll fight back? You know Keaton better than I do, Teresa. Besides, he's got a murder charge hanging over him for trying to kill me, and I can't just let that slide. Even if you help him to

Teresa played the perfect caretaker for a week before she finally showed her true colors.I handed over an apple to her. "It's too big, and I can't eat it unless it's steamed."She frowned at the apple, picked up the plate like she didn't want to, and headed for the door. Her phone rang just as she got there. She turned to look at me for a second and immediately closed the door, but it wasn't soundproof. "It has already been a week. What's taking so long with the share transfer agreement? How long do you expect me to keep taking care of Lucien?"Do you know how awful this week has been for me? He's been coughing up blood every day. What's taking so long for him to die?"The doctor says there's a six percent chance of getting better. That's nothing. He might as well die and save me the trouble."I let out a deep sigh when I heard that. My nose started to sting, and I felt like someone had ripped the soul out of me.I knew Teresa didn't love me and would do anything for Keaton. Bu

I heard Teresa yell, "What do you mean late-stage stomach cancer? It's a liver and gallbladder rupture. What kind of hospital can't even tell the difference?"I opened my eyes in a daze. She was sobbing like crazy, yelling at the doctors with her injured face. I tried to move my fingers, and the sharp beeping from the monitor made my ears ring. She called out, "He woke up. Please take another look at him. He never had stomach issues. How could he possibly have stomach cancer?"She clutched my hand and kneeled by the bed, mumbling nonstop, "How could you have stomach cancer? Your stomach has always been fine."I fixed my cold gaze on Teresa and swallowed the words on the tip of my tongue. For someone who didn't care, my pain only looked like a performance.I tried to pull my hand free, but she held on tight. "I'm not letting go, Lucien. I'm holding on to you forever."My tone was sharp as I looked her in the eye. "I've made up my mind about the divorce, Teresa. Stop making it hard

One day, Teresa snapped, "Seriously? How many times do I have to tell you there's nothing between me and Lucien anymore?"Back then, you were the one begging me to tie him up and bring him back. How can you act like I'm at fault? You're a hypocrite, Keaton."Keaton fired back, "You're calling me a hypocrite, huh? You and Lucien have been spending every day together in that room, and I've seen the way you look at him. It's different now."This is all on me. I shouldn't have come to you and messed up your life. You and Lucien would have had your happily ever after if I hadn't barged in and made things complicated."Things had been tense between them ever since I said I got her to stay with me when I worked on the sketches.Keaton had always been the jealous and paranoid type. I made that request on purpose to stir things up and let Teresa see his true colors.Honestly, I thought it would take a while. Who knew it would only take half a month for the cracks to show?Teresa remarked

Keaton took my phone and stared at Teresa with a grim expression. "Lucien spent his whole life chasing after you. Since his dying wish was to have you by his side, then be the good wife you never were and stay with him."He slammed the door shut with a loud bang, and she was so shaken that she almost fell over. She glared at me in disgust. "I'm carrying Keaton's child. I don't have any feelings for you. How do you think he would feel about you asking me that?"Without responding to Teresa, I spread the paper across the table, taped it in place, and began writing down the measurements based on the client's request. My silence drove her up the wall. She started yelling right next to me, "You're doing this on purpose, aren't you? You know how close Keaton and I are, and now you're trying to drive a wedge between us! I don't have feelings for you. No matter what you do, I'm not coming back to you."I kept my head down, carefully sketching each line. "Keaton knows I'm doing this on pur
