Iris's POV
Eric started glaring at her again. Anytime Iris came around while he was with Evie, it was like she had committed a crime by just existing.
Iris knew that he was basically counting down the days he had to put up with her and Evie.
He never said it in front of Evie, but the moment they were alone, he made sure he never let her forget.
“I’m only playing along for a little while,” he said one afternoon as they stood by the car. “Just a few more days, Iris. Then I’ll be free of you and your games. For good.”
Iris clenched her jaw but she didn’t respond. There was no point.
Later that week, the pack held a full moon celebration. Evie had been begging to go for days, and surprisingly, Eric agreed to take her.
Iris didn’t want to go, but Evie insisted.
So she dressed quietly and got into the backseat beside her daughter, while Eric drove in silence. Evie chatted the entire way, completely oblivious to the tension in the car.
Immediately they arrived, Eric excused himself to greet the pack members, leaving them by themselves.
Evie clutched Iris’s hand tightly, looking around with a grin. “Can I go get juice, Mommy?”
Iris nodded. “Just stay where I can see you.”
Evie's grin widened, and she ran off..
“Still tagging along like an unwanted puppy, huh?” A taunting voice murmured from behind her. It was Zara. “I would’ve thought you would know when to leave the picture.”
Iris didn’t look at her. “I’m here for Evie. I don’t want trouble.”
Zara smirked. “Oh, come on, Iris. I'm not a troublemaker. I just want to chat.”
Iris ignored her, choosing instead to focus on Evie who had already gotten her juice.
“Tell me, how does it feel to be treated with disgust by your own mate?” Zara sneered.
Iris froze.
That was when Tiffany stepped forward with an identical sneer on her face, looking just like her mother. “You don’t look anything like the mate of an alpha. You look like his maid.”
Iris swallowed her pride and turned to walk away. She really didn’t have the energy for a confrontation, but Evie had already returned, and she had heard everything.
“Shut up,” Evie said quietly, standing in front of her mother. “Don’t talk about my mother that way.”
Zara raised a brow. “Sweetheart, you should learn to stay in your place as a child—”
“No,” Evie snapped. “You’re mean. And your daughter is mean too.”
Tiffany gasped. “At least I have someone who wants me! Your own father doesn’t want you!”
Iris stepped forward quickly. “Enough. That’s enough.”
Evie flinched like Tiffany had slapped her.
Iris glared at Zara. “Stop it. Teach your daughter to be a better person.”
Then she took Evie’s hands and walked away.
She tried to cheer Evie up, “Don’t listen to her, Evie. That’s not true, your father wants you.”
Evie’s lips trembled and tears welled up in her eyes. “Then why is he barely around?”
Iris cleared her throat as tears also welled up in her eyes. “He is very busy, Evie. He’s the Alpha of this pack. Didn’t you notice that he’s been spending time with you a lot lately? He has just been busy, that’s all.”
Before she could say anymore, Eric showed up with Zara and Tiffany beside him.
Tiffany’s cheeks were wet with tears as she held Eric’s hand.
“She said I’m not loved because I don’t have a real dad,” she cried. “She called me unwanted and said my mommy was chasing someone else’s mate.”
Zara sniffed beside her, pretending to be heartbroken.
Eric’s eyes darkened as he looked at Evie. “Is that true?”
Evie opened her mouth, her eyes wide in disbelief.. “No, I didn’t—she started—”
“Apologize,” Eric snapped.
Evie’s lip quivered, but she shook her head. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”
Eric looked at Iris. “You’ve spoiled her. She’s just like you. Always playing the victim, and being manipulative.”
Iris stepped forward quickly. “Eric, don’t talk about her like that. She did nothing wrong. They insulted us.”
Eric glared at Iris fiercely, then he turned to Zara and Tiffany with a soft gaze. “Please excuse us. I need to talk to Iris alone.”
Zara gave a pitiful nod as she took Tiffany away. Just as Eric turned his back, they both smirked at Iris and Evie from over his shoulder.
Iris clenched her jaw. She then turned to Evie with a warm, reassuring smile. “Baby, wait for me here alright. Your daddy and I need to talk.”
Iris followed Eric out of the party, and towards the side of the building. From his clenched fists, she knew that whatever he was going to say was going to hurt.
Iris's POVAs I approached the training area, I could hear voices inside. I could hear Lucas’s deep, commanding tone as he gave instructions. I could hear the sound of fists hitting training dummies.I paused outside, and took another deep breath, then I stepped inside. The training area had a few pack warriors training, and Lucas standing in the center of the mat with his arms crossed. This wasn't unusual actually. I was late today, and since most pack members preferred to train early in the morning before their other duties, it was normal for other pack warriors to be there by this time. But right now, all I could focus on was the dirty look Lucas was giving me as I stepped inside.I winced. Today was going to be a bad day. I could tell already.Lucas’s gaze swept over me slowly, his jaw tightening. “You finally decided to join us,” he said, voice cool. “And here I thought I was getting rid of you forever,” He said, his tone flat but there was an edge in his voice that made me know
Iris's POVShane stood there with a mischievous grin on his face, his arms crossed over his chest as he leaned casually against the wall opposite the door.I groaned internally. I knew I wasn’t going to hear the end of this.“So…” he drawled, his grin widening. “Where are you coming from?”“Nowhere,” I said quickly, turning back to my door, twisting the handle. “I went to take a walk to clear my head after everything that happened yesterday.”Shane snorted and the sound echoed in the empty hallway. “Oh really? Is that the story we’re going with?”“Yes,” I said firmly, finally getting my door open. I tried to step inside quickly, but Shane was faster, slipping in behind me before I could close the door in his face.“That’s interesting,” he said, his tone dripping with amusement. “Because from where I’m standing, the Alpha’s scent is all over you to the point that it’s almost nauseating. And unless I’m mistaken, you’re wrapped in his sheets.” He paused, looking me up and down. “And I’m
Iris’s POVRowan ran his hand through his hair, a gesture that I learnt meant that he was thinking carefully about what to say.“I meant what I said yesterday,” he started. “I want you, Iris. Not just physically, though that’s definitely a bonus.” He gave me a small smile. “I want a relationship with you. A real one. I want to be there for you and our child. I want to see where this goes.”“But?” I prompted, sensing there was more.“But I also don’t want to rush you,” he continued. “I know you just ended things finally with Eric yesterday. I know you’re still healing from everything that happened. I don’t want you to feel pressured into anything.”I thought about his words for a moment. He was right that I was still healing. The wounds from my marriage to Eric, from losing Evie, they were still fresh. But I also knew that I wanted this. I wanted him.“I want to try,” I said finally. “I want to see where this goes too. But you’re right that I need to take things slow. I need time to fi
Iris’s POVRowan filled me completely, and we both groaned at the sensation. He paused, giving me a moment to adjust, his forehead pressed against mine as we both breathed heavily.“You feel incredible,” he murmured, his voice strained.I couldn't form words. All I could do was pull him closer, urging him to move.He started slow, pulling out almost completely before sliding back in. Each thrust sent waves of pleasure through me, building higher and higher.“Faster,” I gasped, and he obeyed as he moved his hips with more urgency now.Our bodies moved together. His mouth found mine again, swallowing my moans as the pleasure built to an almost unbearable level.“Touch yourself,” he commanded roughly, and the authority in his voice sent another jolt of arousal through me.My hand slid between us, finding my sensitive center, and I rubbed in tight circles as he continued to thrust into me. The dual sensations were overwhelming.“That's it,” he groaned, watching me as he thrust. “I want to
Iris’s POVHis hands slid down my sides and gripped my hips, pulling me closer. I felt his arousal pressing against me, and it sent a jolt of desire straight through my core.“Rowan,” I gasped when his mouth moved from my lips to my jaw, trailing hot kisses down to my neck.“You have no idea,” he murmured against my skin, his teeth grazing it lightly, “how long I've wanted to do this.”He found a sensitive spot just below my ear, and I felt my legs go weak. My fingers tangled in his hair, holding him as he sucked gently on that spot.“We need to—” I tried to say, but the words dissolved into another moan as his hand slid up my ribcage, his thumb brushing under my breast through my dress.“We need to get to my room,” he completed my statement, but he didn't stop what he was doing. His hand cupped my breast fully now, and even through the gown, the touch sent sparks of pleasure through me.“Then we should probably start walking,” I managed to say, though my voice came out breathless and
Iris's POV“Stay down,” Rowan said calmly. But Eric was scrambling to his feet almost immediately. At this point, he was being controlled by desperation and fury. He came at Rowan again, throwing more punches that Rowan blocked easily.Yet, Eric refused to back down. So Rowan finally got tired and decided to end it.His fist shot out, slamming into Eric’s stomach. Eric doubled over, gasping, and Rowan threw another punch to Eric’s shoulder that sent him spinning.Eric tried to recover by swinging again, but Rowan saw it coming. He grabbed Eric’s arm, twisted it behind his back, and swept Eric’s legs out from under him. Eric went down hard, his face smacking the floor.“I said stay down,” Rowan repeated, his voice was harder now.Eric struggled against Rowan’s hold, trying to push himself up, but Rowan kept him pinned with one hand pressed firmly against his shoulder blades.“Let me go!” Eric shouted, his voice was muffled as he was pressed to the floor. “Let me—”Rowan released him an
