Iris's POV

Eric started glaring at her again. Anytime Iris came around while he was with Evie, it was like she had committed a crime by just existing.

Iris knew that he was basically counting down the days he had to put up with her and Evie.

He never said it in front of Evie, but the moment they were alone, he made sure he never let her forget.

“I’m only playing along for a little while,” he said one afternoon as they stood by the car. “Just a few more days, Iris. Then I’ll be free of you and your games. For good.”

Iris clenched her jaw but she didn’t respond. There was no point.

Later that week, the pack held a full moon celebration. Evie had been begging to go for days, and surprisingly, Eric agreed to take her.

Iris didn’t want to go, but Evie insisted.

So she dressed quietly and got into the backseat beside her daughter, while Eric drove in silence. Evie chatted the entire way, completely oblivious to the tension in the car.

Immediately they arrived, Eric excused himself to greet the pack members, leaving them by themselves.

Evie clutched Iris’s hand tightly, looking around with a grin. “Can I go get juice, Mommy?”

Iris nodded. “Just stay where I can see you.”

Evie's grin widened, and she ran off..

“Still tagging along like an unwanted puppy, huh?” A taunting voice murmured from behind her. It was Zara. “I would’ve thought you would know when to leave the picture.”

Iris didn’t look at her. “I’m here for Evie. I don’t want trouble.”

Zara smirked. “Oh, come on, Iris. I'm not a troublemaker. I just want to chat.”

Iris ignored her, choosing instead to focus on Evie who had already gotten her juice.

“Tell me, how does it feel to be treated with disgust by your own mate?” Zara sneered.

Iris froze.

That was when Tiffany stepped forward with an identical sneer on her face, looking just like her mother. “You don’t look anything like the mate of an alpha. You look like his maid.”

Iris swallowed her pride and turned to walk away. She really didn’t have the energy for a confrontation, but Evie had already returned, and she had heard everything.

“Shut up,” Evie said quietly, standing in front of her mother. “Don’t talk about my mother that way.”

Zara raised a brow. “Sweetheart, you should learn to stay in your place as a child—”

“No,” Evie snapped. “You’re mean. And your daughter is mean too.”

Tiffany gasped. “At least I have someone who wants me! Your own father doesn’t want you!”

Iris stepped forward quickly. “Enough. That’s enough.”

Evie flinched like Tiffany had slapped her.

Iris glared at Zara. “Stop it. Teach your daughter to be a better person.”

Then she took Evie’s hands and walked away.

She tried to cheer Evie up, “Don’t listen to her, Evie. That’s not true, your father wants you.”

Evie’s lips trembled and tears welled up in her eyes. “Then why is he barely around?”

Iris cleared her throat as tears also welled up in her eyes. “He is very busy, Evie. He’s the Alpha of this pack. Didn’t you notice that he’s been spending time with you a lot lately? He has just been busy, that’s all.”

Before she could say anymore, Eric showed up with Zara and Tiffany beside him.

Tiffany’s cheeks were wet with tears as she held Eric’s hand.

“She said I’m not loved because I don’t have a real dad,” she cried. “She called me unwanted and said my mommy was chasing someone else’s mate.”

Zara sniffed beside her, pretending to be heartbroken.

Eric’s eyes darkened as he looked at Evie. “Is that true?”

Evie opened her mouth, her eyes wide in disbelief.. “No, I didn’t—she started—”

“Apologize,” Eric snapped.

Evie’s lip quivered, but she shook her head. “I didn’t do anything wrong.”

Eric looked at Iris. “You’ve spoiled her. She’s just like you. Always playing the victim, and being manipulative.”

Iris stepped forward quickly. “Eric, don’t talk about her like that. She did nothing wrong. They insulted us.”

Eric glared at Iris fiercely, then he turned to Zara and Tiffany with a soft gaze. “Please excuse us. I need to talk to Iris alone.”

Zara gave a pitiful nod as she took Tiffany away. Just as Eric turned his back, they both smirked at Iris and Evie from over his shoulder.

Iris clenched her jaw. She then turned to Evie with a warm, reassuring smile. “Baby, wait for me here alright. Your daddy and I need to talk.”

Iris followed Eric out of the party, and towards the side of the building. From his clenched fists, she knew that whatever he was going to say was going to hurt.

You’re not my mate and we’re not a family. You were a mistake I tolerated. The only reason I played along was because you told me that after a month you would sign the divorce papers, and I would never have to see your faces again.”She hadn’t realized Evie was right behind them until she heard the soft gasp.Eric turned too, and his face drained of color when he saw his daughter standing there, wide-eyed and frozen, like someone had just slapped her.“Evie—” Iris stepped forward, but it was too late. She turned and ran.“Evie!” Iris shouted, chasing after her. They both ran after her, but she didn’t get far, she collapsed by a bench, and began shaking.“Ev

  • Too Late, Alpha: The Mate He Never Wanted    Chapter 4

Iris's POVIris didn’t sleep well that night. She kept wondering if he would actually keep his word and show up in the morning. She wasn't looking forward to the disappointment on Evie's face when he didn't come. When a sleek black SUV pulled up in front of the house at 7 a.m., her heart jolted in surprise.Eric stepped out, freshly dressed in a tailored black shirt and slacks. He looked like he had just walked out of a magazine. He looked effortlessly handsome, like always but cold, and unreadable.Evie ran to the window, gasping in joy. “Mom! Daddy’s here!”Iris smiled weakly. “Go on, grab your bag.”Evie raced around the house gathering her things while Iris went to answer the door. She didn’t say anything to Eric when she opened the door.“Ready?” he asked, not glancing at Iris.Evie nodded eagerly, holding his hand with a wide grin on her face. When they left, Iris followed behind in her own car. She didn't trust Eric with Evie, even though he was her father. When she arrived at

  • Too Late, Alpha: The Mate He Never Wanted    Chapter 3

Iris's POVIris brushed off the tears from her cheeks and walked into the office with her head high, even though she was breaking inside.Eric and Marcus fell silent immediately she walked in. She could see the look of sympathy on Marcus’s face, and the look of intense dislike on Eric’s face. Eric stood tall behind his desk, looking very much like the commanding Alpha. He was still the most devastatingly handsome man she had ever seen. With his perfectly tousled hair, piercing green eyes, broad shoulders, and sharp jawline, he had stolen her heart without even trying. She used to look at that face and feel butterflies. She used to ache for his attention, and crave to be loved by him.But now… none of that mattered.Evie’s life was more important than the man who had never once looked at any of them with love.It hurt her, yes. But she brushed it off.All that mattered at that moment was that Eric gave Evie her greatest, and probably her last, wish.Iris glanced at the document lying

Iris’s POVIris continued when Eric fell silent. “She has the Moonbane Curse, and the healer said—”Eric interrupted her instantly. “What is this, Iris? Is this one of your schemes? Are you really that despicable that you’ll lie about something like this to get my attention?”He always believed that she was trying to manipulate him into believing that they were true mates, chosen by the moon goddess herself. For some reason, Eric couldn’t feel the mate bond. Iris had always felt it — the sparks, the pull, everything. But Eric said there was nothing. Iris was baffled because she didn't know if he was lying, or if he really felt nothing. She could feel his disgust through the mindlink as he growled at her.“Don't be such an attention seeker!” He snapped, his voice dripping with contempt. She gaped. “But—”He cut her off before she could say anything. “I told you I wanted a divorce. That's all I want you to speak to me about. No more games or schemes. You know that Zara is back.” Eric’s

Iris’s POVIris’s hands shook as she stared at the report before her in shock. “Wh…What? How can this be? Tell me this is not true!” she pleaded with the Healer, but he shook his head with a sorrowful look on his face. “I’m sorry, Luna Iris. But it’s the truth. Your daughter has the Moonbane Curse,” the Healer said gently. It felt like her whole world came crashing down at that moment. The Moonbane Curse was one of the rarest and deadliest diseases for young werewolves, and it had no cure. She felt like she couldn’t breathe. She glanced at her young innocent daughter, Evie, sitting across the room. When Evie saw her looking, she gave Iris a wide smile that caused her heart to ache. Evie had so much life in her. How could this be happening to her?“How much time does she have?” Iris asked, returning her smile with a broken heart. He sighed. “A month,” he replied. She whirled around to face him with wide eyes. “What? A month?! But that’s not enough!” she cried, raising her voice. The He
