Chapter 2

Author: Ava
I followed Lucas back to Kane’s old den after we left our house.

It was Full Moon Day. Wolves gathered beneath the glowing moon, their howls rising in harmony.

Fireworks lit up the sky, drinks flowed freely, and laughter echoed through the mountains.

The pack shimmered with life—joyful, wild, whole.

In front of Kane’s grand mansion, lights flickered warmly.

A strong, handsome wolf ran through the yard with a six-year-old pup chasing after him, their laughter ringing through the air.

“Don’t run too fast! You’ll fall!” Kane’s voice called out, half stern, half fond.

Serena stood nearby, her eyes filled with gentle amusement.

What a perfect, happy family.

Lucas stood behind the fence, watching quietly. His little fingers gripped the wood, his eyes blinking fast, trying to hold back whatever was rising inside.

He swallowed hard.

That should have been us.

In the past, Kane used to play with him every Full Moon Night. But now…

Lucas wiped away the tears streaming down his cheeks and tiptoed to press the doorbell.

The door opened quickly, but it wasn't Kane who appeared—it was Serena.

Her smile froze the moment she saw Lucas. Her face instantly turned cold and full of warning.

“What are you doing here?” she hissed.

She quickly glanced over her shoulder and saw Kane, who was still happily playing with her pup in the living room. That eased her nerves a little.

But when she turned back to Lucas, her face twisted with disgust.

“Did that shameless she-wolf send you here?” she spat.

“Didn’t she tell you this is no longer your den? Get lost, you little brat!”

Lucas’s eyes turned red with rage as her venomous words sank in.

“Lies! My mom is not a shameless she-wolf—it’s you!” he shouted.

“I want to see my dad!”

Fury burned in his chest. He looked like a little lion, glaring up at her defiantly.

Serena’s eyes narrowed with hatred. She quickly turned her head and glanced over her shoulder—Kane was still fully focused on playing with the pup, completely unaware of what was happening at the door.

Only then did her expression turn vicious. With calculated cruelty, she turned back to Lucas and shoved him hard, her movements swift and ruthless.

He stumbled and fell, his head slamming against the door with a loud, echoing thud.

“Who’s there?” Kane’s voice called out, clearly startled by the noise.

Serena panicked. She quickly slapped her hand over Lucas’s mouth and yelled back,

“It’s just a stray cat! Nothing to worry about. Go back inside with Doris!”

Once Kane disappeared into the room, her expression darkened.

“You filthy little bastard,” she growled, pressing her weight onto Lucas’s tiny body.

“You and your mother are exactly the same—both here to ruin everything!”

Lucas struggled under her grip, tears and blood mixing on his face.

Serena scoffed and kicked him aside like trash.

Just as she reached for the gate to slam it shut, Lucas grabbed her leg, crying out through the pain.

“You evil she-wolf! Let me see my dad! I want my dad!”

Serena couldn’t help but burst into laughter. Then she glanced at the small dog flap in the door, a sneer spreading across her face.

"If you’re willing to crawl through this dog door, I’ll let you see your dad," she said mockingly.

When I saw what she was doing to my pup, rage exploded inside me. If I were still alive, I would’ve coughed up blood in fury.

How dare she?! How could she humiliate my little pup like this? That she-wolf had no shame at all!

My heart overflowed with rage and sorrow. I waved my hand in the air, desperately trying to stop him, to tell him not to give in.

Lucas, my sweet pup… your mom is already gone. You don’t have to do this for me. Don’t humiliate yourself. Please, run! Go back to your den!

Lucas looked up at the mansion, his eyes filled with pain, and gritted his teeth.

"Will you really keep your word if I do it?" he asked hoarsely.

Serena paused for a moment—then laughed, loud and gleeful.

"Absolutely," she said with fake sincerity, her eyes gleaming with cruelty.

Biting his lip, Lucas lowered his trembling body. On his hands and knees, he crawled slowly through the dog flap, his body shaking with every movement.

He whispered to himself, trying to stay strong:

"It’s nothing... Don’t cry... I’m doing this for Mom..."

But the tears still streamed down his face, soaking into his clothes as he dragged himself forward.

Serena, meanwhile, had taken out her phone and was gleefully recording the entire thing, her eyes shining with twisted excitement.

"What a good little mutt. You really are Kate’s pup—so shameless," she sneered.

"Come on, bark like a dog. Let me enjoy this!"

But just as she was reveling in her cruelty, a sharp voice cut through the air like a whip.

"What the hell are you doing?"

I announced, then gently floated with my pup into Kane’s study.Inside, Commander Jack and his team were questioning Kane.“Alpha Kane, according to our investigation, Luna Kate died from massive blood loss that triggered systemic organ failure in her werewolf body.”“I’m curious—why would the Luna die in such a crude rental den?”“And from excessive blood loss, no less.”“Can you explain this?”Kane pressed his lips tight, as if recalling a horrific memory.“Commander Jack, here’s the truth—I and Luna Kate finalized our bond-severing seven days ago.”“I prefer not to disclose details, but I can assure you the blood-loss claim is mistaken.”“Yes, I asked her to donate blood—but only 800 cc! That alone cannot cause complications. You must have made an error.”Kane appeared earnest, but Jack frowned.“That’s impossible, alpha.”“Our pack’s herbal examiners are among the best—such basic mistakes don’t occur.”“And…” Jack paused, eyes piercing through Kane. “We’ve traced her blood donation

Acting on what she’d just heard, Kane jerked his head up—only to catch Serena’s panicked expression. He barely had time to process it before the servant rushed in.“Alpha Kane, Commander Jack from the Werewolf Police is here with his team. You must hide young Master Lucas’s body immediately—under no circumstances can they find out the cause of death or that it involves our pack. As for Madam’s body… he has a few questions for you.”Kane lowered his gaze, staring at the pup in his arms as if he were simply asleep. The ache in his chest felt like a bottomless chasm, swallowing him whole. But logic screamed at him—concealing the truth was the only option now.Serena hurried over, her voice low but urgent.“Kane, the servant’s right. You didn’t mean for any of this to happen, but now that it has, we have to act fast. Hide Lucas.”Kane stared at her, voice hoarse.“Serena… I killed Lucas. And now I’m hiding him. He’ll never forgive me.”Annoyance flickered across Serena’s face, but she quic

The memories ended there, but Kane hadn’t yet emerged from his sorrow when Serena couldn’t help but speak.“Kane, what’s wrong? Who are you thinking about?”“Is it Kate?”She smiled faintly—but a sharp glint flashed through her eyes.“It’s strange, though. With Lucas like this, why hasn’t Kate shown up yet?”“Even if she wants to use the pup to win your sympathy… this is going too far, don’t you think?”Kane froze. Then suddenly, he remembered what the servant had said—Lucas had already passed out in the snow.A violent jolt of panic surged through him.He shot to his feet, shoved Serena aside, and bolted toward the door.Serena gasped at the sudden movement, trying to speak—but Kane was already gone, thundering down the stairs. She frowned and quickly followed. When she reached the ground floor, the scene outside left her stunned.Kane was stumbling through the snow like a madman, tearing off his coat and wrapping it tightly around the small, rigid figure lying motionless on the groun

The chair crashed to the floor with a deafening thud as Kane shot to his feet in a panic, nearly knocking over the desk in the process. He grabbed the phone with trembling hands, his voice sharp and demanding.“What rental den? Who the hell are you? This isn’t funny—what kind of sick joke is this?”The voice on the other end remained calm, unaffected by Kane’s outburst.“Alpha Kane, please calm down. This is the Werewolf City Patrol Unit. About an hour ago, we received a report of a strange scent coming from one of your rental dens. Upon inspection, we discovered a female corpse—based on the ID, the deceased is your former mate, Luna Kate. She’s been dead for three days.Neighbors reported she had been living there with a six-year-old pup, who is currently missing. If you know anything about the pup’s whereabouts, please contact us immediately. We also ask that you come in as soon as possible to give a formal statement.”Bang! The phone slipped from Kane’s hand and hit the floor with a

The piercing cold instantly engulfed my entire body.I knew Lucas would obey—for my sake. But this was never the kind of obedience I wanted. As expected, my pup didn’t move. That small, fragile figure knelt silently on the hard, frozen ground beneath the dark night sky.One hour later, it began to snow.He let the icy wind and falling snow gradually cover him, inch by inch.Inside the warm, well-heated house, Serena sat comfortably with her daughter in her arms, feigning concern.“Kane, Lucas is still so young. Isn’t this a bit too cruel?”Kane’s eyes remained fixed on the window, his voice cold and laced with disappointment.“Cruel? He was the one who made the mistake.”“If he can’t endure a little punishment like this, how is he supposed to become Alpha of the pack one day?”Serena’s smile faltered for a moment. Jealousy flashed in her eyes, nearly impossible to hide. She hadn’t expected that even now, Kane was still thinking of making that little bastard his heir. But the next secon

Lucas flinched and immediately protested,“I didn’t! Your phone is—”Smack! His words were cut off by a sharp slap across the face.Kane stood there, gripping the feather in one hand and pointing at Lucas’s reddened cheek with the other. His eyes blazed with disappointment.“I knew it! You didn’t come back with pure intentions!”“Framing Serena because your mother told you to was already shameful—now you’re stealing from her too? How did I end up with a pup like you?”“Speak! Where did you hide the phone? Hand it over!”My mind went blank. Like a maddened she-wolf, I rushed forward, shielding my son in desperation.I screamed silently at Kane—How dare you strike our child?Just because Serena said something, you believe her without question? But no one could hear my fury. I was nothing more than a ghost.Lucas stared up at the man in disbelief, tears cascading like pearls.“I didn’t take her phone… and Mom never taught me to lie… It’s that wicked woman—she set me up on purpose…”“She’
