LYDIA POV

The subterranean sanctum was a cavernous tomb of obsidian and red glass.

Polished black stone mirrored the sickly violet luminescence of the ritual circle below, creating an illusion that we were suspended in a void of writhing, liquid darkness. Above, massive chandeliers forged from black iron held flickering, sulfurous flames that cast long, jagged shadows against carved bas-reliefs of ancient wolf kings kneeling before serpentine horrors.

In the center of the vast hall, five high-ranking members of the Western Alpha Council knelt around a raised obsidian dais. They wore rich crimson robes trimmed with gold thread, their faces concealed behind silver masks shaped like snarling wolves.

Between them hovered a sphere of dense, swirling black ash and bone dust—the unsealed, pulsing core of the Ash Serpent. It throbbed like a dying heart, sending ripples of localized gravity that cracked the black glass floor.

"High Alpha Adrian. Sovereign Healer Lydia," a cold, smooth voice echoed from the leader at the head of the circle. He stood up slowly, removing his silver mask to reveal the weathered, stern face of High Councilor Malakor—the supreme political authority of the Western Wilds. "You survived the bone pass. Impressive. But your journey ends in the vault where the new era begins."

Adrian stepped in front of me without hesitation, drawing his broadsword in a smooth, lethal motion. Blue-white lightning hissed down the length of his blade, illuminating the dark glass beneath his boots.

"Malakor," Adrian’s voice dropped into a dangerous, gravelly rumble that vibrated through the chamber walls. "You traded your own scout division to a primordial abomination. You betrayed the entire Western territory."

"Betrayed?" Malakor laughed—a dry, rasping sound that lacked any human warmth. "We saved it, High Alpha! The central packs have grown soft under Valerius's rules. They bleed us dry of taxes while our western lands wither from drought and volcanic ash! The Ash Serpent isn't a monster—it is the primal engine of the earth. Once we fuse its core with our bloodlines, the Western Wilds will rule this continent!"

"You're feeding on poison, Malakor!" I shouted, stepping up to Adrian’s right, my gloved hands igniting with intense, golden White Light. "The serpent doesn't bring life! It drains the ley-lines until the land turns to barren salt! You're sacrificing your own people for hollow power!"

Malakor’s gray eyes flashed with cold madness. "An omega lecturing Alphas on power. How comical. Councilors—execute the wolf. Bring me the Healer alive. Her divine light will serve as the stabilizer for the serpent's core."

The four seated councilors rose in unison.

Instead of drawing swords, they slashed their own palms, spilling dark blood onto the glowing purple runes beneath their feet. The blood didn't pool—it was sucked into the obsidian dais, igniting four massive, ethereal shadow-wolves that materialized beside them. The beasts were nine feet tall, composed of pure, writhing ash and red malice.

"Lydia, hold the sanctum doorway," Adrian ordered, his eyes locked onto Malakor. "Don't let them flank us."

"We stand together, Adrian," I said, my spirit surging into the primal reservoir of my light. "No more taking turns."

Adrian glanced at me, a brief, ferocious smirk breaking through his lethal focus. "Together."

The four shadow-wolves lunged forward, their phantom claws scraping against the black glass floor with ear-splitting screeches.

"STORM-RAGE!" Adrian thundered.

He didn't just meet their charge; he blew past them. Adrian channeled his secondary Alpha core into a terrifying burst of speed, leaving a trail of blue kinetic lightning in his wake. He slammed directly into the two lead councilors, his broadsword shearing through their dark magic wards and sending them flying into the obsidian pillars with bone-crushing force.

The remaining two shadow-wolves pivoted mid-air, snapping their jaws toward Adrian's exposed back.

"White Light: Sun-Binding!" I called out.

I thrust both hands forward. Two thick beams of solid, blinding light shot from my palms, wrapping around the necks of the shadow-beasts like golden chains. I pulled back with all my strength, leveraging my magic to slam the two massive entities into each other. The holy fire dissolved their ash forms into harmless clouds of white steam.

Malakor’s jaw tightened. "Insolent girl!"

He threw his hands toward the hovering serpent core.

The sphere of dark ash violently expanded, shooting five thick tendrils of acid-dripping shadow straight toward my chest. The atmospheric pressure in the room plummeted, making it feel as though my lungs were being compressed by iron bands.

I didn't step back. I slammed my right foot forward, cracking the black glass beneath my boot, and raised my hands in an arch.

"DIVINE SHIELD!"

A semi-spherical wall of blazing silver and gold light erupted before me. The shadow tendrils slammed into the barrier, splashing black acid across the shimmering surface. The toxic impact sent sharp vibrations straight down my arms, threatening to break my wrists, but I held my ground, gritting my teeth through the blinding pain.

He’s anchoring the attack to the purple runes! I realized, scanning the floor with my divine sight. If I disrupt the runic circuit, his control breaks!

"Adrian! The floor runes at ten o'clock!" I yelled, maintaining the shield against the crushing shadow pressure.

Adrian caught my command instantly. He vaulted over a falling stone pillar, spinning in mid-air, and slammed his broadsword straight into the designated rune knot on the glass floor.

CRACK-BOOM!

The blue kinetic shockwave shattered the runic conduit.

The purple light flickering through the obsidian floor died instantly. Without the runic circuit to stabilize it, the Ash Serpent core went wild, violently whipping its tendrils in every direction and striking down the remaining two councilors who fell screaming into the dark abyss below the dais.

Malakor stumbled backward, coughing up dark blood as the magic feedback shattered his silver mask completely.

"No... no!" Malakor gasped, scrambling toward the unsealed core. "The ascension... it's mine!"

"It's over, Malakor," Adrian said, walking slowly up the steps of the dais, his blood-stained broadsword resting on his shoulder. His stormy gray eyes were cold, unforgiving, and heavy with absolute judgment.

Malakor looked up at Adrian, then at me as I approached, my hands still radiating a soft, steady golden light.

A manic, desperate grin spread across the High Councilor's bleeding face. "You think you stopped it, High Alpha? Look at the core!"

I looked at the hovering sphere—and my blood ran cold.

The ash core wasn't collapsing. With the runic bindings destroyed and the five councilors' blood absorbed, the serpent nucleus had achieved critical mass. The black ash had turned into a glowing, translucent red ember that was expanding exponentially, threatening to detonate the entire subterranean mountain complex.

"It's a chain reaction," I rasped, dread gripping my heart. "If that core explodes... it will trigger a fault line collapse that will bury the entire Western Wilds!"

Malakor cackled madly as he pulled a small obsidian dagger from his belt. "Then we die together in the ashes!"

Before Malakor could drive the dagger into his own throat to complete the suicide blood-curse, Adrian shifted like lightning, driving his boot straight into Malakor’s chest and hurling him off the dais into the dark ravine below.

"Lydia," Adrian turned to me, his face pale but his hands steady as he looked at the expanding red core. "Can you purge it?"

"Not from the outside," I whispered, stepping up to the edge of the red ember. The heat radiating from it was searing my skin, making my velvet tunic smoke. "The nucleus is encased in condensed shadow-iron. The only way to purify it... is to reach inside and plant the origin-light at its center."

Adrian grabbed my wrist, his grip so tight his knuckles were white. "No. That heat will burn you to ash before you even reach the center!"

"I won't burn," I looked straight into his stormy gray eyes, reaching up to touch his face. "Not while your wolf grounds my spirit. Hold me, Adrian. Don't let go, no matter what happens."

Adrian stared at me for a heartbeat, his wolf roaring in protest, but seeing the absolute, unyielding resolve in my golden pupils, he swallowed his fear and nodded hard.

"I won't let go," Adrian swore, stepping behind me and wrapping his broad, warm arms firmly around my waist, anchoring his massive frame to the stone floor. "Do it."

I closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and plunged both of my bare hands straight into the burning, red-hot core of the Ash Serpent.

PATRICK POVThe sun was sinking behind the frozen, serrated peaks of the Shadow Ridge, bleeding a deep, bruised violet across the sky.In the center of the grand open plaza of Stormfang, four hundred pack warriors gathered beneath banners of black and silver, their iron-plated armor gleaming in the light of dozens of towering bonfire braziers. At the head of the plaza stood the high altar of the Moon Goddess—a massive slab of black granite carved with the ancient runes of the First Pack.I stood before the altar, draped in my heavy silver-fox mantle, the ancestral iron collar of Stormfang resting broad against my collarbone. Today was not the wedding itself, but the public decree—the solemn betrothal that sealed her fate and bound the continent to my reign. The grand union would take place in thirty days, at the crest of the blood moon, giving every lord from the eastern borders to the southern reaches time to gather and witness her ultimate submission.Below the altar steps, two guar

PATRICK POVThe obsidian grand hall was bathed in the harsh, flickering glare of fifty iron braziers.Hundreds of pack members, elite vanguards, border commanders, and council members crammed into the vast chamber, their low, excited murmurs bouncing off the dark vaulted ceiling like the humming of a disturbed hornets' nest. The air was suffocatingly thick, smelling of heavy furs, roasted meat, stale wine, and wet mountain snow.I stood at the top of the marble dais, resting one hand on the carved armrest of the bone throne. My broad chest swelled beneath a high-collared mantle of black velvet lined with silver-fox fur. Across my shoulders hung the ancestral chain of Stormfang—a heavy iron collar forged by the first High Alpha three centuries ago.To my right, Elder Corvus stood leaning on his iron-tipped staff, his milky-blind eye glazed over, his wrinkled face set into a tight, unreadable mask.I raised my right hand, heavy iron rings glinting in the firelight."Pack of Stormfang!"

ALORA POVThe subterranean vault remained frozen, pitch-black, and silent, but the silence no longer felt like a grave. It felt like a trap waiting to spring.I sat cross-legged on the icy stone floor of my cage, my hands resting palms-up on my knees. The silver suppression cuffs around my wrists and ankles burned hot, glowing a faint, angry purple against my pale skin every time my pulse quickened. But I didn't pull away from the silver anymore. I leaned into the pain, using the stinging burn to sharpen my mind, keeping my consciousness pinned to the deep, thrumming pulse echoing beneath my boots.Thump... thump... thump...It was a heartbeat—faint, slow, but unmistakably divine.Whoever hung suspended in the abyss below this deep cell wing possessed the exact same high-tier origin-magic that thrummed inside my own chest. Patrick believed he had broken the old bloodline, but he had merely buried its root in the dark, ignorant that roots grow in the dark until they split stone.CLANG.

ALORA POVThe darkness inside the subterranean cell was absolute, cold, and heavy as a burial vault.I sat with my back pressed against the weeping granite wall, my knees pulled tightly to my chest, breathing in the stale, iron-heavy draft that drifted up from the lower abyss. Outside my cage, the torch Patrick had left in the sconce was sputtering out, its pale amber flame dying in a thin trail of black smoke. My body throbbed with a deep, agonizing exhaustion. The silver-laced iron chains wrapped around my torso and forearms bit raw into my skin, and the suppression collar at my throat flared with a hot, sickly purple sizzle every time my pulse spiked.A fool, Patrick had called her. A weak, foolish coward.Tears, hot and silent, cut through the dried mud and blood on my cheeks. For eighteen years, I had believed I was just Alora Black—an ordinary girl who lived in a quiet farmhouse in Oakridge, who helped Clara bake bread on Sunday mornings, who worried about high school exams and

PATRICK POVThe subterranean corridors beneath Stormfang Fortress grew colder with every step I took down the winding spiral staircase. Here, three levels below the obsidian hall, the warm air of the upper keep died completely, replaced by the damp, metallic stench of dripping water, ancient granite, and raw silver rust. Two elite guards stationed outside the deep cell wing straightened instantly as I approached, their heavy iron pikes slamming against the stone floor in synchronized salute."Leave us," I commanded, my gravelly baritone echoing off the damp vault."High Alpha," the lead guard bowed low, unlocking the heavy iron grate before retreating up the stairs, his boots echoing into the dark silence.I took the iron torch from the wall sconce and stepped into the pitch-black corridor of the deep cells. The air was heavy, thick with the distinct, agonizing scent of silver suppression runes burning against divine magic. • Too Late, Prince! I’m No Longer Your Chubby Luna   THE COUNCIL OF SHADOWS

PATRICK POVThe grand council chamber of Stormfang Fortress was an ancient, circular vault carved from the black obsidian heart of the mountain.Twelve massive stone pillars arched upward like the ribs of a leviathan, supporting a vaulted ceiling painted with forgotten constellations. In the center of the room, a long iron table sat surrounding a pit of roaring, blue-flamed coals. Around the table sat the high elders and clan lords of the northern territories—men and women who had sworn fealty to my throne seventeen years ago out of fear, greed, or survival.I sat at the head of the iron table, resting my chin on my laced fingers, watching the chaotic fire light up the hard, ruthless faces of my council."The rumors are spreading through the lower territories, High Alpha!" Lord Kaelen—a scarred, grey-furred Alpha of the eastern borderlands—thundered, slamming his broad, clawed fist onto the table. "The border guards are whispering that High Alpha Adrian’s daughter was captured in the
