LYDIA POV

The Grand Amphitheater of Sunreach was a soaring dome of white granite, built to seat the rulers of a hundred packs.

High above the floor, in tiered balconies carved from solid marble, sat the Alphas, Betas, and elder councilors of the entire continent. The air hummed with tense, heavy Alpha energy—an overwhelming pressure of competing dominance that would have forced a normal omega to their knees at the threshold.

I stood at the center of the marble floor, completely unfazed.

I wore deep emerald-green silk robes, embroidered with shimmering silver threads that traced the intricate pattern of moon-lilies along my arms. My short dark hair was combed back with quiet elegance, exposing the calm, unyielding clarity of my face. Beside me stood Adrian, his arm bandaged securely under his dark fur cape, his broadsword resting at his hip as he stood as my equal guardian.

At the head of the chamber, sitting upon the high golden throne, was High Sovereign Valerius. Restored to his full, formidable vigor, his golden Alpha aura rolled over the hall, keeping the rowdy assembly of rulers in strict order.

"Members of the Continental Assembly," Valerius’s voice echoed like thunder off the granite walls. "We stand here today not only to render judgment upon Chief Justice Vane for high treason, but to rewrite the fundamental laws of our empire."

A murmuring ripple went through the sea of noble Alphas.

In the center of the floor, bound in heavy, magic-suppressing silver chains, knelt former Chief Justice Vane. His fine white silk robes were torn and stained, his silver hair wild, his eyes filled with a desperate, spitting rage.

"Before we pass sentence," Valerius continued, gesturing toward me, "Head Healer Lydia Blackthorn will present the Grand Imperial Medical Charter."

I took three steps forward, unrolling a heavy parchment sealed with the sovereign's wax.

"Under this charter," I declared, my voice clear, steady, and amplified by a subtle wave of White Light that reached every ear in the amphitheater, "medical governance across all territories will be completely decoupled from pack politics. No Alpha or Beta may deny medical care, quarantine innocent omegas, or use biological substances as weapons of war."

"Preposterous!"

A tall, broad-shouldered Alpha stood up from the western balcony—Alpha Roderick of the Ironfang Pack. He was a ruthless warrior king covered in scars, his sneer dark with contempt.

"You expect sovereign Alphas to surrender medical authority within our own borders to a woman?" Roderick boomed, leaning over the marble railing. "A discarded Beta's daughter who was auctioned off like surplus cattle in Silverfang? You may have cured a fever, girl, but you do not dictate law to warlords!"

Several traditionalist Alphas chuckled in agreement, their deep voices echoing through the hall.

Adrian’s hand immediately snapped to the hilt of his sword, his gray eyes flashing with lethal intent, but I raised a gentle hand to hold him back.

I looked up at Alpha Roderick, my expression calm, almost pitying.

"Alpha Roderick," I said softly, stepping closer to his section of the balcony. "Two years ago, your pack suffered an outbreak of bone-rot fever in your lower mining encampments. You quarantined three hundred omegas in the caves and let them die because you deemed them an economic drain. Am I correct?"

Roderick’s sneer faltered, his jaw tightening. "They were weak! They offered nothing to the pack's war effort!"

"They died because your court healers used toxic quicksilver salves that rotted their lungs," I replied, my tone razor-sharp. "And right now, Alpha Roderick, the dark shadow of that same bone-rot is creeping through your own left hip. You walk with a limp you try to hide behind your heavy cape. Your internal wolf is burning."

The entire assembly went dead silent. Roderick froze, his face turning an unsightly ash-gray.

"How... how do you..." he stammered.

I didn't answer him with words.

I raised my right hand toward the western balcony. The White Light burst from my palm in a soft, radiant beam that crossed the distance in a heartbeat, bathing Roderick in golden illumination.

Roderick gasped, clutching the marble railing as the divine warmth sank into his skin. The deep, agonizing throb in his hip—a secret pain he had concealed for six months—vanished instantly. His posture straightened as his internal wolf let out a long, quiet sigh of relief.

The beam of light retracted into my palm.

"I do not dictate law because of my bloodline, my size, or the titles men chose to give or strip from me," I said, my voice ringing through the dome with undeniable, divine authority. "I dictate law because I hold the power to keep your kingdoms alive—and the authority to walk away if you choose cruelty over justice."

The silence in the amphitheater was absolute.

Alpha Roderick looked down at his healed hip, then at the glowing warmth fading from my hands. He slowly bowed his head, sinking back into his chair without another word.

High Sovereign Valerius smiled softly from his throne, resting his chin on his fist. "Does any other Alpha wish to question the Head Healer’s authority?"

Not a single voice rose. Nobles who had whispered about my appearance, my weight, or my past rejection now looked at me with open awe and terror.

"Then the Grand Imperial Medical Charter is passed into absolute, unchangeable imperial law," Valerius declared, bringing his golden staff down onto the stone floor with a deafening CRACK.

"Now," the Sovereign’s voice dropped into a terrifying tone as his eyes locked onto the chained figure on the floor. "We turn to the traitor."

Lord Vane lifted his head, a wild, maniacal laugh escaping his throat. "Execute me, then! Strip my titles! Throw me into the pit! It changes nothing!"

"You sold poison to Shadowclaw," Adrian said, stepping down beside me, his voice dark and cold. "You tried to murder the Sovereign and frame the White Healer. Your execution is guaranteed."

"You think Shadowclaw was just my ambition?!" Vane shrieked, his silver chains rattling violently as he thrashed against his guards. He glared at me with bloodshot eyes, his smile twisted and unhinged. "Shadowclaw is merely the vanguard, girl! The poison your family manufactured... it was copied! It was sent north!"

My breath hitched slightly, but I kept my stance firm. "North?"

"Beyond the Frost-Spire Mountains!" Vane laughed, black blood oozing from his lips where he had bitten his own tongue in madness. "The Ancient Shadow King has awakened! The plague was just a taste! Your White Light will burn out, Lydia Blackthorn... and when the real shadow falls, your precious Alphas will bleed to death!"

"Silence him!" Valerius commanded.

Two golden guards slammed their heavy pommels against Vane’s head, knocking him unconscious before dragging his limp body out of the amphitheater to await his execution at dawn.

The heavy silence returned to the great hall, but the mood had shifted from triumph to a cold, lingering foreboding.

I stood in the center of the grand room, looking up at the high glass dome. The White Light inside my chest hummed steadily, burning brighter, stronger, and more resilient than ever before.

LYDIA POVThe silence that fell over the central courtyard was heavier than the granite vault we had just escaped. The six-eyed shadow crow remained perched on the marble railing, its hollow, dark gaze fixed unblinkingly on me. On the floor before us, the pool of dark, burning wax sputtered, the glowing script in ancient High Imperial fading slowly into the stone like dying embers."The seals on the three other Primordial Horrors... have just shattered."Valerius’s whispered words hung in the mountain breeze, freezing the blood in my veins.Beside me, the celebratory cheers of the crowd died instantly. The surrounding Alphas exchanged terrified, panicked glances, the triumph of purging the Shadow King evaporating in a single heartbeat."That's impossible," Alpha Roderick gritted out, stepping up the dais steps, his hand gripping his sword hilt. Adrian gritted out, his teeth coated in blood as his Alpha aura flared wildly against the crushing pressure."Your warrior bleeds in vain, little healer," the booming voice of the Shadow King reverberated inside my skull, shaking the dust from the vaulted ceiling. The thirty-foot entity rose higher from its seat of frozen black ice. LYDIA POVThe earth groaned as the two colossal Shadow-Titans took another synchronized step toward the central plaza. Each footfall felt like a localized earthquake, shattering the marble flagstones and sending high-pressure dust clouds shooting up between the cracks. The air reeked of ozone, burnt sulfur, and the suffocating chill of dark ice."Lydia!" Beside him was my sister,Seraphina, draped in silver silk that looked grotesque amid the ash, and our father, Lord Blackthorn, looking smug as he held a sword stained with the blood of imperial guards."Lydia!" Patrick’s voice boomed again across the marble courtyard, distorted by dark magic. "Stop this madness and come down! Yield to your true Alpha, and I will spare the High Sovereign!"Beside me on the high balcony, Adrian’s knuckles turned white on the hilt of his broadsword. His dark gray eyes flared with lethal Alpha fury, his jaw set in a hard, dangerous line.
