TAMSIN

When I opened my eyes, the world was blurry.

I blinked, trying to clear my vision, trying to remember where I was supposed to be.

Poppy's apartment.

But this was not Poppy's apartment.

My head felt stuffed with cotton, thoughts moving slowly through some thick fog I could not quite push past.

I tried to sit up and the world spun sickeningly.

I closed my eyes, waited for the vertigo to pass, then tried again more slowly.

This time I managed it.

I was lying on a couch.

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 050

TAMSIN I could not move. Could not speak. Could not think. My sister. Hannah. My Hannah. Alive. I looked at the woman in the bed, then at James, then back at the woman whose face was an exact mirror of my own. My hands were shaking. I pressed them together, trying to still the trembling, but it did no good. Tears filled my eyes, blurring my vision until I had to blink rapidly to clear them. "Is this..." My voice cracked. I tried again. "Is this really my sister? Hannah?" I looked at James, searching his face for any sign of deception, any hint that this was some elaborate trick. "How?" I whispered. "Where? I mean... since when?" James's expression was careful, measured. "It is a long story," he said quietly. "Perhaps we should step outside for a moment. I can explain everything." I looked back at Hannah. She had drifted off again, her breathing shallow but steady, the monitors tracking each rise and fall of her chest. I wanted to stay. I wanted

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 049

TAMSIN A week ago, after leaving the beach and returning home, I had come to a realization that settled heavily in my chest. I still felt hurt. Deeply, painfully hurt. Despite everything James had said in court, despite the evidence Leo had presented, despite the public vindication and Isla's complete downfall, the wound remained. My baby was still gone. Not hidden. Not waiting somewhere I could reach. Gone in the most final, unforgiving way. And nothing James said or did would ever change that truth. Leo had been right. I needed to speak to a therapist. I needed to process what had happened in a way that would allow me to move forward rather than remain trapped in this endless loop of grief and rage. The strangest part, however, was what I felt when I thought about Isla. Or rather, what I did not feel. I had sworn that once Isla was no longer carrying a child, I would make her suffer. I would ensure that she paid for every terrible thing she had done. I would no

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 048

LEO I held Tamsin in my arms for a long while, feeling the weight of her pain as though it were my own. When I finally let her go, we walked back to the car in silence and drove for a few minutes before either of us spoke. "I have been thinking about going back to work," she said eventually, her voice quiet. "I have started applying to different hospitals. Good ones. Since the divorce will be finalized in a week, I can start fresh somewhere new." I kept my eyes on the road, processing what she had said. She glanced at me when I did not respond immediately. "The judge will grant the divorce, right?" she asked. "I mean, she cannot force me to stay married if I do not want to, especially since I just want to be away from James." "Yes," I confirmed. "The judge cannot compel you to remain in a marriage you no longer want. Especially given the circumstances." I paused, then added something I thought she should understand. "James deliberately chose not to bring a lawyer for

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 047

TAMSIN The courthouse stood tall and imposing, its stone façade cold and indifferent, as though it had witnessed far too many endings to be moved by one more. Leo parked the car, and for a moment, none of us spoke. I stared ahead, my fingers loosely clasped in my lap, trying to steady the strange heaviness sitting in my chest. This was it. The end. Or at least, the beginning of it. When I stepped out of the car, the air felt sharper than usual, as though even the wind understood the weight of what was about to happen. Leo walked beside me, his presence steady, grounding, while my thoughts remained anything but. When we got in, James was already there. What surprised me most was not that he had arrived early, but that he stood alone. No lawyers flanked him. No legal team briefed him on last-minute strategies. No assistants hovered nearby with documents and advice. Just James, standing in the corridor, looking strangely diminished in a way I had never seen before.

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 046

TAMSIN Poppy gave me a look I knew all too well, the kind that meant she had already decided for both of us. “It does not matter if his words won't change anything,” she said. “We should at least hear what he has to say first.” I hesitated for a moment, my fingers tightening slightly around my phone, before I gave a small nod. And so, I listened. “I have known Isla since she was a child,” James continued, his voice calm and steady, carrying easily across the room through the speakers. I felt something tighten in my chest. He spoke of friendship, of trust, of how he had believed Isla to be kind, how he had never once imagined the kind of person she truly was. He admitted that misunderstandings had arisen in our marriage because of that misplaced trust. A faint, bitter smile touched my lips. Misunderstandings. That was such a simple word for something that had destroyed everything. Then his tone shifted, growing sharper, more deliberate. “But before I proceed, there is somet

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 045

TAMSIN I kept smiling as Poppy ran to me and pulled me into a fierce hug. She held my face in her hands, studying me with worried eyes. "Are you okay?" she asked breathlessly. "I was so worried. What happened? Where were you?" Leo stood a few steps behind her, watching me with that intense, unreadable expression he sometimes got when he was trying very hard not to show what he was feeling. "Of course I am fine," I said, trying to sound more reassured than I felt. "I was just visiting James' grandfather. Why would you be worried?" Poppy gave me a look that clearly said she was not buying my casual tone. "Tamsin," she said firmly. "If you were really just visiting James's grandfather voluntarily, you would have told me when I called earlier. You said you were at home." She paused, and her expression grew more troubled. "Moreover, when I got to our apartment, the door was left wide open. And I found your phone on the floor just inside the entrance. Everything about that

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 021

TAMSIN The hospital waiting room smelled like antiseptic. I paced back and forth in front of the row of plastic chairs, unable to sit still, my hands clenched into fists at my sides as I tried to control the nervous energy coursing through me. Poppy sat in one of the chairs, watching me with

TAMSIN I looked down at my menu and traced my finger along the edge, pretending to study the lunch specials with far more interest than they deserved. I didn't bother to look up or acknowledge Isla's presence, though I could feel her standing beside my table like a storm cloud gathering strength.

TAMSIN I rushed out of Leo's apartment building and into the parking lot, my legs still shaky but functional enough to carry me forward despite the exhaustion weighing down every muscle in my body. The police cars were already pulling away from the curb by the time I reached the ground level, t

  • Too Late To Beg   Chapter 030

TAMSIN The last thing I wanted was any kind of drama between the two men standing in this police station parking lot, particularly when one of them had just been arrested for defending me and the other had orchestrated that arrest. I forcefully pulled myself away from James's embrace and glared a
