Morning came sooner than Elena expected.

She woke up earlier than usual.

Today was different.

It was her first day helping Damian with his community project, and she couldn't stop thinking about it.

She sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the floor. Her mind was racing with different thoughts.

What if she wasn't good enough?

What if she disappointed him?

A gentle knock interrupted her thoughts.

Mrs. Harper walked in with her usual warm smile.

She immediately noticed the anxious look on Elena's face.

"You don't have to worry so much," she said kindly. "Everything will be alright."

Elena slowly looked up and smiled.

"I hope so."

"You'll do just fine," Mrs. Harper replied confidently.

Her words eased some of Elena's worries.

After Mrs. Harper left, Elena walked to the wardrobe.

She picked out one outfit, then put it back.

She picked another.

Still not satisfied.

After trying several options, she finally chose a simple cream-colored blazer with matching trousers.

It wasn't flashy.

It was elegant.

She wanted to make a good first impression.

Not long afterward, Damian drove Elena to Blackwood Group Headquarters.

The moment they walked through the entrance, conversations came to a halt.

Every eye turned toward them.

The employees exchanged surprised glances.

"Who is she?"

"I've never seen Mr. Blackwood bring a woman here before."

"Could she be his girlfriend?"

The whispers spread across the lobby.

Elena heard them.

She lowered her eyes, suddenly feeling uncomfortable.

Just then, one of the senior executives stepped forward.

"Mr. Blackwood, may I ask why—"

He didn't get to finish.

Damian calmly interrupted him.

"Miss Elena is here because I invited her."

His voice was firm.

"She deserves the same respect as everyone else in this company."

Silence filled the lobby.

No one dared to question him again.

Elena looked at Damian.

For a moment, she forgot about the whispers.

It had been a long time since someone stood up for her without expecting anything in return.

Damian later introduced Elena to the team in charge of the charity project.

She greeted everyone politely before taking her seat.

At first, she simply listened as everyone shared their ideas.

Then she noticed something.

"I have a suggestion," she said carefully.

The room became quiet.

Everyone turned to look at her.

"What if we partner with local schools instead of holding the program only in the city? That way, children in rural communities can benefit too."

The room fell silent.

A few seconds later, one of the managers nodded.

"That's actually a brilliant idea."

"I never thought about that," another added.

Soon, everyone began discussing Elena's suggestion.

Even Damian looked impressed.

A small smile appeared on Elena's face.

For the first time since her divorce, she felt useful again.

Across the city, Adrian sat alone in his office.

Several documents lay open on his desk, but he couldn't focus on any of them.

His thoughts kept drifting back to Elena.

Frustrated, he picked up his phone and called his investigator.

"Any news?" he asked.

The investigator sighed.

"Nothing yet, sir."

"It's like she disappeared without leaving a trace."

Adrian clenched his jaw.

His frustration was beginning to show.

He ended the call and stared out the window.

"Even if it takes forever," he muttered quietly, "I'll find you."

Back at Blackwood Group, the workday had finally come to an end.

Elena walked into Damian's office to return a few documents.

As she waited for him to finish a phone call, her eyes wandered around the room.

Then they stopped on an old framed family photograph sitting on a bookshelf.

She walked closer.

One little girl in the picture looked strangely familiar.

Without thinking, she picked up the frame.

"Who is this little girl?" she asked.

Damian turned around.

The moment he saw the photograph in her hands...

The color drained from his face.

"Someone was there that night."Elena's voice trembled through the phone.Damian's heart tightened. He had heard fear in her voice before, but this was different. This wasn't fear of Adrian. It wasn't fear of Vanessa. It wasn't even fear of the uncertainty surrounding her past. This was the fear of remembering something she had spent years forgetting."Elena," Damian said gently, "where are you?""At home.""Are you with your grandfather?""Yes.""Good. Stay with him."There was a brief silence. Then Elena whispered,"Damian...""I'm coming."He ended the call.Victor was still standing across from him."What happened?""She remembered something."Victor's face changed."What?""She remembers a man talking to her father."For several seconds, Victor didn't respond. His expression was enough to tell Damian that the memory mattered."You know who it was."Victor finally looked at him."I may."Damian's jaw tightened."Then tell me.""I need to speak to Elena first.""She's upset.""I kn

The following morning, Elena woke with a strange feeling she couldn't explain. She had slept badly. Not because of a nightmare.Because of the memories. The conversation with her grandfather from years ago kept replaying in her mind. She remembered sitting in his study as a teenager, surrounded by documents bearing the Vale name. She remembered understanding, for the first time, just how wealthy her family truly was.And she remembered making her decision. She didn't want the attention. She didn't want strangers treating her differently. She wanted a normal life.At the time, her grandfather had been reluctant. But he had eventually agreed.Elena had smiled when he did.She had thought that was the end of the matter. Now she knew there were still things she didn't understand.Especially about her parents. She got out of bed and dressed before heading downstairs. When she entered the dining room, her grandfather was already there. He was reading the newspaper. He looked up."Good morni

Damian remained seated behind his desk long after Victor had left. The office was quiet. The city continued moving outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, but Damian barely noticed. His attention remained fixed on the sealed envelope sitting in front of him.He had received threats before. He had dealt with corporate sabotage, hostile takeovers, blackmail attempts, and people who thought they could manipulate him.But this felt different.Because this time, the name connected to the secret was Elena's.Victor's words continued to echo in his mind."The first piece of the truth."Damian finally reached for the envelope.Whatever was inside, he needed to know.He carefully broke the seal.Several old documents slid onto the desk. There were photographs too.Damian picked up the first one.His expression immediately softened.Elena.She couldn't have been more than five or six years old.She stood between her parents, one tiny hand wrapped around her father's fingers while her mother reste

The night air was unusually still.Victor Carter remained beside his car, his eyes scanning the darkness beyond the trees. He had learned long ago to trust his instincts.Someone had been there. He was certain of it.Without making any sudden movements, he unlocked the driver's door and got inside. Instead of starting the engine immediately, he adjusted the rearview mirror, carefully watching the narrow road behind him.Nothing.Only darkness. After another minute, he finally drove away.A pair of headlights remained hidden farther down the road.Whoever had been watching him didn't follow. Not tonight. The following morning, Blackwood Mansion was unusually lively.Mrs. Harper was already preparing breakfast while humming softly.Elena walked into the dining room wearing a simple cream-colored dress."Good morning."Her grandfather smiled."Good morning."Mrs. Harper turned around with a grin."Perfect timing. Victor Carter stepped inside the old house as Elena's grandfather quietly locked the front door behind him.For several long seconds, neither man spoke. The years had left their mark on both of them.Victor's once jet-black hair was now streaked with gray, and the deep lines on his face told stories of burdens he had carried in silence.Elena's grandfather gestured toward the living room."Sit."Victor obeyed. The room was exactly as he remembered it.The old grandfather clock still stood in the corner. The fireplace remained untouched.Even the family portrait above the mantel hadn't moved. His eyes lingered on it.Elena's parents smiled back at him.For a brief moment, he looked away."You've avoided this house for over twenty years," Elena's grandfather finally said."So tell me...""What could possibly be important enough to bring you back?"Victor inhaled deeply."They've started searching again."The old man's expression hardened instantly."Are you certain?"Victor nodded."I w

Damian remained seated long after the phone call ended. Victor Carter. The name meant nothing to him, yet the man's calm voice lingered in his mind. "I've been watching over Elena for years." Those words refused to leave him. He looked down at the old photograph still resting on his desk. Elena stood happily between her parents, unaware that someone in the background had silently become part of a mystery that would follow her into adulthood. Who was Victor Carter? Why had he waited until now to reveal himself? And most importantly... Could he be trusted? A soft knock interrupted his thoughts. "Come in." His assistant stepped inside. "Sir, your two o'clock meeting is ready." Damian slipped the photograph back into the envelope. "I'm on my way." But for the rest of the meeting, his attention kept drifting back to Victor's words. Something told him this wasn't a coincidence. Someone had decided it was finally time to step out of the shadows. Meanwhile, Elena was compl
