Chapter 183

Author: Arlo Drake
Justin stared at Lila fixedly for a long while, making her a little nervous. "Mr. Farrow, w-what's the matter?"

Arthur grinned. "Justin, you look intimidating right now. You're scaring her," he said and shot Lila a look.

"Take a seat next to Justin."

"Okay."

Lifting her dress, Lila was about to walk over when Justin suddenly said, "Don't bother. Go out."

Lila was stunned for a second before leaving the room awkwardly.

Arthur picked up his drink and looked at Justin. "She does resemble Serena a lot. Aren't you interested?"

"Just as you said, she merely resembles Serena, but she's not her. What's the point of keeping her here?"

Arthur was quiet for a few seconds and advised, "Give up, Justin."

"Are you asking me to give up Serena?"

"She's not coming back this time. Are you going to be depressed for the rest of your life? Serena already has a new life. You should pick yourself up and start living."

Justin's eyes were solemn.

Here it came again.

"Who are you calling lackeys?" Joseph was infuriated. "I'm on good terms with Serena. Can't you set your prejudices aside and speak nicely with me?"Ignoring him, Lauren continued playing drinking games with the guys next to her. She lost, so she picked up her drink and finished it.The men clapped and refilled her glass, their gazes running over her stunning figure. Impatience flashed over Joseph's face. "Get out of here, both of you. Don't have any designs on her."The guys were a little disgruntled, but they noticed that Joseph was dressed in branded goods and even had a streak of hair dyed in blue in front. He looked exactly like a scion from a wealthy and influential family. After consideration, the two guys decided to leave, which made Lauren mad. "What are you doing? Who's going to drink with me now that they're gone?""Stop drinking. Didn't you see that the guys were eyeing you like you're a prey? They're waiting until you're drunk so they can take advantage of you."

Joseph was silent for a few seconds before picking up the call."Lauren, I'm at the club you mentioned. Where are you?" Aaron's voice echoed from the other end of the line."She's drunk, and we're at the entrance now.""Who are you?""I'm your Daddy!" Joseph hung up in frustration and turned to Lauren who was mumbling on the seat. When he placed his ear closer, he realized that she was cursing at someone, and he was speechless.Soon, Aaron found them. Seeing Joseph, he was a little surprised. "It's you?"The Collinsworths were a prestigious family in Nocturna. Even though Joseph was always fooling around, Aaron could remember him."I bumped into her, and she's completely wasted. Even if I'm heartless, I can't leave her alone inside."The look on Aaron's face turned dark. He paced to the backseat and helped Lauren out of the car.Lauren was in a daze, but when she saw Aaron, she pushed and struggled against him. "What are you doing here? Go to another woman. For a few seconds, Beatrice said nothing. "I don't know, either. Justin, you should know better than anyone else what Serena's personality is like."Justin's eyes wavered, and he muttered, "You're right."When the call ended, the traffic light turned red. Seated in the driver's seat, Justin felt a rush of emotions through his chest.Serena appeared cold on the outside, but she was warm on the inside. Kind and soft-hearted, she was always considerate of others. At the same time, she was stubborn and had a strong pride. Once she made up her mind, she would never turn back. So, she was never coming back to him.Intense despair sprawled over him, and his phone rang at this time.A deep voice said, "Mr. Farrow, this is information about Wilson Quade. Suddenly, a mischievous voice next to Serena said, "What's on your mind? You look absolutely peeved. Are you going to kill someone?" Serena turned to the source of the voice and saw Wilson, clad in a dark-colored suit, standing next to her bench. His mesmerizing eyes were locked on her, and a small trace of amusement was visible in them.Slowly, Serena rose to her feet. "I'm sorry, Mr. Quade.""Why are you apologizing?""I lost my cool with Desiree earlier and left just like that, leaving you to clear up the mess."Wilson paced toward her. "If that's the case, I should be the one to apologize.""What do you mean?""I'm the reason Desiree is mean to you. If it wasn't because of me, you wouldn't have to deal with her attitude." Wilson smiled softly. "Therefore, it's only fair that I take care of the situation after you lose your temper.""Did Desiree make things difficult for you?""No. She lost her memories, not her mind. She's not going to pick a bone with me."He was righ

Since Wilson already rejected Aaron, Serena thought that she shouldn't interfere anymore."Lauren told me that you have an extraordinary relationship with Justin as well. Will you be the middleman and introduce him to me?" Aaron asked instead.Serena was surprised, and her voice turned a few notches colder. "I have nothing to do with Farrow Corporation anymore. This is even more out of the question.""I got it. Sorry, that was rude of me."Aaron hung up and set down his cellphone, his eyes turning gloomy.Despite claiming that she cared a lot about Lauren, Serena didn't want to help out with anything. Then, she shouldn't blame him for what would happen next.Aaron turned to Lauren, who was slowly waking up on the bed."How long was I asleep?""More than five hours now. Lauren, let's go somewhere on a trip in two days.""A trip?" Lauren was surprised. "But your company—""Work has been suffocating me recently, and I'm getting tired. The car sped all the way until it finally reached an abandoned pier, where there was no one around. The weeds had taken over the land, and a chilly breeze ruffled past.Serena tightened her jacket around herself. "Why did you bring me here?""You must be familiar with that car, aren't you?" Justin pointed with his finger, and Serena's gaze followed its direction. He was pointing at a black Range Rover. Although Wilson rarely used this car, she immediately recognized it as his.Was Wilson really here? What was he doing here? All of a sudden, she had a bad premonition.Justin led her to an abandoned warehouse at the pier. Before they even got close, they heard a man's shrilling cry. He sounded to be in excruciating pain, as though he was tortured.Anxiety struck Serena, and she suddenly had the urge to run. However, Justin held her wrist. "Are you afraid of him, Serena?""I'm not.""Then, why don't you go in?" Justin looked into her eyes. "Serena, we're already here. Just one

With vigilance and wariness in her eyes, Serena appeared as though she was looking at a monster, and Wilson felt a sharp tug in his chest.Serena stumbled out, continuing to retch as her mind was filled with the scene in the warehouse.Blood… The floor was covered in blood. The deepest scar in her memory was ripped open again. She recalled the criminal who stabbed her father to death. His menacing face was smiling, filled with bloodthirsty brutality. Slowly, that face merged with Wilson's."Serena," someone called next to her.Lifting her head, she saw Wilson coming over. She met his eyes but quickly looked away."I'm sorry, I shouldn't have come here. I-I didn't see anything—" She began stuttering incoherently, turning around to flee helplessly.Justin pulled her into his arms and glowered deeply at Wilson with a trace of glee in his eyes."Can't you see that Serena is terrified of you? Justin had no choice but to slam on the brakes.Serena threw the door open and got out immediately.Justin quickly followed. "Serena, where are you going?"Serena suddenly turned around and landed a slap on his face. Her whole body trembled. "Are you happy now?"A dark glint flashed in Justin's eyes before he grabbed her wrist. "If you want to hit me, go ahead. As long as it makes you feel better, Serena, hit me until you've had enough!""Go away!" Serena struggled to break free, but Justin pulled her into his arms."I'm sorry. I know this will hurt you, but I just wanted you to see the truth. Wilson isn't the right person for you. I am."Serena, let's start over. We were so good together. Isn't it a shame to end things like this? Just give me another chance."Her resistance gradually weakened. Justin felt a flicker of hope and loosened his grip, looking into her eyes. However, al

It's a small loss, but nothing the company can't handle." Justin reached out to caress Lila's hair. "It's your birthday tomorrow. I've made a reservation at a restaurant to celebrate.""Okay." If that were the case, she saw no point in getting hung up on the past.…Justin sat in his leather swivel chair in his office at Farrow Corporation, taking a few drags of his cigarette as a scowl etched on his face. Jessica stood before him, looking nervous. "M-Mr. Farrow, don't be angry… There'll be other opportunities—""Other opportunities?" Justin snorted. "We're talking about a project worth billions! His gaze swept over the people in the room before falling on the deliveryman."Is that the guy?" Wilson asked.Serena nodded. "Yes, but we can't get anything out of him. He insists that it's a personal grudge against the shopowner.""Leave the interrogating to the professionals, Serena," Wilson drawled as he gave Kayden a look. Wait for our notice," one of the officers said."Alright."When Serena had seen the officers out the door, she stopped all business sales in the patisserie. She also took a few ingredient samples to have them tested.Joanna was distressed. "Our ingredients are fine, Serena. You should move someplace nicer."Lila replied slowly, "I should, but first, I need a new job."When Justin heard this, he was suddenly reminded of something. "Your manager mentioned you were in college, but then you quit halfway and started working at the club because you were in dire straits. Which college did you go to?""I was a student at Nocturna University, the local campus," Lila answered."That's a pretty good university." Justin was a little stunned. This was the first time he'd asked about her private life, and her answer surprised him. After some thought, he offered, "You should go back to college. I'll continue to sponsor you.""Really?"
