“She’s getting worse,” the healer whispered, pulling his hands away from Fiona’s abdomen. “The toxins are spreading. Her kidneys are failing.”

Dylan’s fists clenched. “Then fix it.”

“We can’t. Not without a transplant. She has months—at most.”

Fiona let out a weak cough, her face pale against the infirmary linens.

“I’ll find a donor,” Dylan said.

“You’ll need one who’s compatible… and strong enough to survive the operation.”

Dylan didn’t hesitate. “Test everyone.”

Sophie heard the commotion from across the courtyard.

She rushed toward the infirmary, only to be stopped at the door by two guards.

“I’m his wife,” she said, voice sharp.

“Alpha’s orders,” one replied. “No entry.”

She peered through the narrow window.

Inside, Dylan cradled Fiona in his arms, whispering frantically. “I’ll give you my own if I have to. I won’t let you go.”

Fiona smiled faintly. “You always save me.”

“No, you saved me,” he said, brushing her hair back. “This time

The memorial garden bloomed in full moonlight.White lilies swayed beside stone paths. At the center stood the cliffstone marker, Sophie’s name carved deep into the granite, the lullaby line etched beneath it.Dylan placed a single white lily at its base.Around him, the pack had gathered.Children held lanterns.Elders wore silver bands in mourning. He didn’t stand apart. He stood among them.No longer Alpha.Just a man.Just hers.Kingsley stepped forward to address the crowd, voice steady. “One year ago, our Luna gave everything. Not for power. Not for pride. But for peace. Tonight, we remember not only what we lost—but what she taught us.”A moment of silence. Then Dylan stepped beside the stone, lifting his head.“She loved you, even when you shunned her,” he said. “She loved this pack enough to die for it. I failed her. But I will love her… beyond every dawn.”He closed his eyes. And sang. The lullaby echoed through the garden.S

Three moons had passed since the howl over the cliff. The Alpha's crest was gone from Dylan’s shoulder. He now wore simple leathers, his hands calloused from rebuilding what he once ignored. At the southern border, he laid stones with farmers. At the northern outposts, he trained orphaned pups to read maps and wield blades. He never sat at the high table. He never entered the Alpha’s hall.He no longer gave orders—only labored beside the ones who had once bowed to him.One evening, a young healer hesitated as Dylan swept the infirmary floors.“Sir—” she began, “you don’t have to—”“I do,” Dylan replied, not looking up.He passed through the children’s ward, where sick pups clutched herbs and listened to old lullabies—Sophie’s lullaby, now taught in every school and sung at every patrol send-off.Each night, he returned to the cliff. He’d light a lantern.Set a lily. And sing.Softly.Not for attention. Not for redemption points. But

The wind howled across the cliff’s edge—the same place where Dylan had once fallen, broken and bleeding. This time, he came by choice. His arms cradled a small urn carved from obsidian, wrapped in silver cloth.Sophie’s ashes. No guards. No procession. No audience.Just him. And her. At last.He knelt where the stone dipped toward the ledge, the spot where her hands had once gripped him, where her voice had kept him tethered to life.Dylan set the urn down and began to carve. With a chisel and bare hands, he etched her name into the rock.Sophie KingsleyThe Voice in the StormBeneath it, he carved the first line of her lullaby—the one that haunted his dreams now.*"Through the wind and through the rain, I’ll guide you home again..."*He placed the restored vinyl inside a sealed granite hollow beneath the stone. Not for others. For memory. For truth. When the moon rose full, Dylan stood, stripped off his cloak, and raised his head. Then he

The square was still.Dylan remained kneeling, head bowed, hands open in surrender.Beta Kingsley stood motionless. The crowd watched, holding breath. Finally, Kingsley stepped forward. His boots echoed on the stone. He stopped in front of Dylan."You begged me to protect her,” he said, voice low and gravel-edged. “And I failed.”Dylan looked up. His eyes were rimmed red. “Then take your justice.”Kingsley unsheathed a dagger.Gasps swept through the onlookers. He raised it——then turned it and slammed the hilt into the ground beside Dylan’s feet.“No,” he said. “She wouldn’t want that.”Dylan blinked, stunned.Kingsley’s voice cracked. “Sophie believed in peace. Even when this pack turned its back on her, she stayed. For them. For you.”He looked to the crowd.“Let her sacrifice mean something.”He turned back to Dylan. “You will atone. Not with death. But with life. Hard, long, thankless life.”Dylan’s throat worked. “How?”“Yo

Dawn broke with a red sky.Dylan stood in the tribunal square, cape discarded, armor unpolished. No ceremonial robes. Just truth and blood on his hands. The pack gathered in confusion. Word had spread like wildfire.Fiona stood nearby, wrapped in a shawl, pale but smiling faintly. “Dylan, what’s going on? You look—”“Silence.”His voice cracked across the stones. The crowd hushed. He turned to the elders. “A grave lie has been buried beneath this pack. And so was its only true Luna.”Murmurs rippled.Dylan’s jaw tightened. “Sophie Kingsley is dead.”Gasps. Then silence.Fiona’s face drained of color. “W-What are you saying?”“She died in that surgery. A surgery I forced. For you.”He turned to her.“You stole her story. You took her lullaby. Her memory. Her sacrifice.”Fiona stepped back. “No—I saved you—”“You didn’t!” he roared. “You were never on that cliff! It was Sophie who dragged me out, broken and bleeding, and sang me back to lif

Dylan’s hands trembled as he unfolded the letter.*“If you’re reading this, it means I couldn’t make you remember while I was alive...”*He sank into the chair, the words bleeding into his chest like knives.*“The melody you heard on the cliff—it was mine. You were dying, and I sang to keep you awake. I begged the ancestors to keep you breathing, even as I bled beside you...”*His breath caught.*“I didn’t want your love. Only your truth. But you gave both to someone else and left me to rot in silence. I forgive you, Dylan. I just couldn’t carry this weight anymore...”*The letter slipped from his hands. His legs moved before thought could catch up.---The infirmary staff scrambled as Dylan burst through the doors, fury and panic boiling in his eyes.“Where is she?” he roared. “Where’s Sophie?!”The chief healer paled. “Alpha—”“Don’t lie to me.”The man faltered. Then nodded.Wordlessly, he led Dylan down the hall, through a locked door, and
