It was a very quiet moment when Ava was sitting on her bed when the door was thrown open.

She jumped in shock.

Patricia was pale and angry and stood at the doorway holding a thick hospital file in her hands, which shook as she held it.

"Mom?" Ava whispered.

Patricia entered and threw the file on the bed before her.

“Explain this,” she said, and her voice was sharp and trembling.

Ava looked down at the papers.

Her heart stopped.

She had known the hospital stamp too well.
