Chapter 2

I picked the pieces left of my clothes, and fled to my room. I locked myself up in bathroom, scrubbing and washing myself up as I cried until sunrise.

The next day, just like I expected, Jackson didn't remember. He walked past me in the hallway without a second glance, discussing pack business with his father. I was relieved and devastated at the same time.

Nine weeks later, I realized I had missed my cycle. Two times in a row. I immediately feared the worst.

“No. No, no, no.” I muttered as I rushed to buy a pregnancy test kit from the pack doctor, paying with money I had saved for my family.

My hands shook as I watched the positive result appear.

"What am I going to do?" I whispered to my reflection.

I tried to hide it. I wore looser clothes, and avoided the other servants. But the Alpha had eyes everywhere, and I was sure that some of the servants who hated the fact that I was assigned to tend to Jackson had let the cat out of the bag.

Three months into my pregnancy, he summoned me to his office.

My father was already there, his face pale, and quite disappointed.

“What could be happening?” I thought to myself. “This isn't good.”

The expression on my father's face said a million and one things without him saying anything yet. I knew he must have heard something he never expected.

"You're pregnant," the Alpha said as soon as I walked in, and it wasn't a question.

I was taken aback. I couldn't speak, neither could I breathe.

"Who's the father?" my father demanded. "Elena, please tell me—"

"It's Jackson's, isn't it?" the Alpha interrupted calmly.

He didn't even allow me to respond before he continued, "Don't even bother denying it. The doctor confirmed the timeline. He also informed me that you bought a pregnancy test strip weeks ago.”

He continued, “You probably don't know that I've been getting updates about you since you arrived here at the palace mansion, and I've been told that you've been more sluggish lately, and different than when you just arrived here. Everything I have just mentioned only solidifies the fact that you're pregnant for Jackson since you've only been working in his chambers since you got to the palace."

I immediately fell to my face. “I'm sorry, Alpha. Please forgive me. He came back drunk that night. I tried to fight back, but he was too strong for me.” I wept bitterly.

My father couldn't believe his ears. He couldn't believe that his dearest daughter was taken advantage of while working to pay up a debt.

"Wait, he forced her?" He angrily lunged forward, but the palace guards held him back. "Your son raped my daughter!"

"Be careful with your accusations," the Alpha warned, sternly. "You heard her. Jackson was drunk. He doesn't remember the incident. But the child is his, and that creates... complications."

"Complications?" I lifted my head, finally finding my voice amidst sobs. "Alpha, I'm pregnant for Jackson and you call it complications?"

"My son cannot have a bastard child!" the Alpha roared coldly. "It would damage his reputation, and weaken his claim to the Alpha position. There's only one solution."

My father's eyes widened with horror. "No. You can't mean—"

"He'll marry her." The Alpha announced sharply, and the room immediately went silent.

"What?!" I gasped, breaking the lingering silence.

"A marriage will legitimize the child. It's not ideal, but it's better than the alternative." He said casually, like someone who was reading from a news.

He then turned to me, his expression hard, "You'll become Jackson's wife. You'll bear his child. And you'll never speak of how this pregnancy came to be. As far as anyone knows, you and Jackson have been secretly courting."

"He won't agree to this," I said. "He loves Sophia."

He raised an eyebrow and leaned back in his chair, "Sophia will be taken care of. Jackson will do as he is told. It's his mess, he MUST clean it up."

He then suddenly leaned forward, "Unless you'd prefer I demand your family's debt to be paid immediately? I'm sure they'd be homeless before nightfall."

He had me trapped, and he knew it.

"I'll do it," I whispered, my heart breaking as I spoke. "I'll marry him."

“Good. The wedding will hold by the end of the week.” The Alpha announced again, throwing us into shock.

“That soon?” My father was taken by surprise.

His expression turned cold. “Yes. You're lucky I'm not asking them to get married tonight.”

Father shook his head slowly and I knew what it meant. He was regretting everything he'd had to put me through for his lack.

The wedding was small, and obviously rushed. Jackson stood beside me in the pack’s court, his jaw clenched, and his eyes cold. He didn't look at me once during the ceremony. When the pack elder pronounced us husband and wife, Jackson's kiss was brief and completely emotionless.

What was I even expecting?

Then to make matters worse than it already was, something unexpected happened. That night, Sophia packed up and left the pack. She couldn't stand to see the love of her life married to someone else.

At midnight, Jackson arrived back in our quarters after he had chased Sophia down that night, hoping to convince her not to leave him, but his efforts were futile. She was already gone. Her mind was made up.

And trust Jackson to make sure I knew it was all my fault.

"Are you happy now?" he hissed as I stood in our new shared quarters. "You've ruined everything. My life, my future, and my chance at happiness."

"I didn't want this either," I tried to explain.

"Didn't you?" His eyes burned with hatred. "A poor little maid who suddenly becomes Luna? Sounds like a fairy tale to me."

"Your father forced this—"

"You trapped me with this pregnancy!" He grabbed my shoulders, shaking me. "Was that your plan all along? Get pregnant and force me to marry you?"

"You don't remember that night, do you?" Tears streamed down my face. "I said no. I begged you to stop. But you were too drunk to care."

For a moment, I thought I saw what looked like guilt in his eyes, but it vanished quickly.

"Get out of my sight," he said coldly. "Sleep in the other bedroom. I don't want to look at you."

That was FIVE YEARS AGO.

Now I stood in our home, watching our son sleep, wondering how everything had gone so wrong.

My phone buzzed. A text from Jackson: "I'm taking Sophia and Lily to dinner. Make sure Jake doesn't wait up."

“Wait, what?!” Mother exclaimed, completely shocked.“How is that even possible?” Father muttered, equally shocked.“I honestly have no idea.” Beta Raphael responded, also finding it hard to believe.“How can such a thing even happen right in the Alpha's quarters?” Raphael muttered under his breath, but it was loud enough for my parents to hear him.“Exactly, with so many guards over there, ensuring everyone's safety.” Father nodded in support.“Was it not in that same quarters that Jake was kidnapped? Right under his father's roof.” Mother hissed. “Ensuring everyone's safety, my foot.” She hissed again, and father cleared his throat. He nudged her gently with his shoulder and she turned to look at him with a not-so-pleasant look on her face.He gestured with his head for her to look at Raphael, who looked obviously disappointed in himself that the case of the kidnap was still not resolved yet.Mother sighed.“I'm so sorry about everything that has happened.” Raphael apologized, and f

Standing on the other side of the door, one hand already raised as though he had been about to knock, was a familiar face.It was none else, but Beta Raphael. He lowered his hand slowly, and looked at both of them in the doorway, taking in the scene behind them, the scattered room a bit visible over their shoulders, and then back at their faces.“Beta Raphael?” They both said in unison, completely surprised."Mr. and Mrs. Johnson," he said quietly. "I'm sorry to come at this hour."His expression, which was usually carefully composed, was a bit different from what neither of them had seen from him before."May I come in?" He asked, respectfully. "There's something important I need to talk about."“Yes, please come in.” My father said as they led the way and he followed behind them.Beta Raphael stepped inside, and my parents led the way to the sitting room.He followed behind them, and the moment he crossed the threshold into the sitting room, he stopped. His eyes moved slowly across

Having seen the security guards in such a large number through the room window and now hearing them at the front door, my parents exchanged confused and questioning glances. They couldn't contain their shock.“An order from the Alpha? What could be going on?” Mum muttered, and dad shrugged, still confused.“I have no idea. Everything seemed normal when I was on my way back from the factory. I mean, nothing looked out of place.” He responded, whispering too.“OPEN UP! IF YOU DON'T OPEN THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW, WE'LL BE FORCED TO BREAK DOWN THE DOOR.” The voice yelled again, banging at the door.Father quickly rushed to the door, with mum following closely behind him. And within seconds, the door was opened. The leader of the security team then barged in with his troops rushing in too, leaving mum and dad utterly stunned.“Search everywhere. Every nook and cranny. Search every single place.” He ordered his team members.“Yes, sir.” They nodded, and instantly got to work, searching everywher

"Shhhh..." Father's hand flew up to mother's mouth faster than she could finish the sentence, his palm pressing gently but firmly against her lips, cutting off whatever she had been about to say next. She immediately froze, her eyes widening. He turned to look at her, and deliberately but slowly shook his head. Her eyes held his above his hand, and she was confused at first, but then after reading him, and understanding what his actions probably meant, something different shifted in her gaze.He held the silence for another moment, and then carefully lowered his hand."Don't say such things out loud, Stella," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "Do you understand me? You can't say things like that out loud. You should know this by now."She blinked. "What? Why not? It doesn't matter if anyone hears me saying it. Hearing it doesn't mean they know the truth behind it." She shrugged."That's exactly the point." His voice dropped even lower, his eyes moving toward the window briefl

~RED FLARE PACK~The moment father stepped in through the front door, he immediately noticed the pitch darkness in the house. Still in his work clothes, with the faint smell of the pack's iron factory still clinging to his shirt, he flipped the switch and the lights came on. His eyes then scanned the empty and very quiet sitting room.He had worked a long shift, longer than usual, and all he had thought about on the walk back home was sitting down, eating a warm dinner, and checking on his wife, my mother."Stella?" He called out to her, dropping his tools by the door, but no one answered him.He walked into the sitting room and stopped abruptly as he noticed that mother's breakfast was still on the small table by the window, exactly where he had left it arranged for her before heading out that morning. The bowl was full, the bread untouched, a thin film of cold having settled over everything long ago. It was obvious that she hadn't eaten a single bite of it since morning.“She hasn't

"What issue?" I asked, making sure to keep my voice low.Mira turned back to face me, her expression hinting that she was trying to choose her words carefully."Elena," She said slowly, "I want to help you find Jake. I genuinely want to, but something just struck my mind.”“And what is it?” I asked, almost impatiently.“Just think about it for a moment." She paused for a very short moment. "You've told me a lot about your son. You've told me what he is like, how he speaks, how he acts and his favorite things to do. But if I'm going to be walking into that section looking for a specific child among however many kids are being kept there, I have to be able to recognize him." She held my gaze steadily for a moment and said, "But I've never seen him. I don't even know what he looks like."I opened my mouth to speak but she continued before I could say anything."A description only goes so far. It can only do so little." She continued, trying to speak quietly. "Young pups can look alike,

Hearing Sophia’s voice, Jackson's expression immediately turned into concern. One I couldn't find in his eyes even after we had informed him that his own son had been kidnapped.“What is going on? What's happening to Lily? She has a fever? How high?" He turned away from me, his voice softening. "Ok

The garden below was dark and empty, but there was no sign of my son anywhere."No, no, no, no." I spun around, checking under the bed, in the closet, behind the curtains. "Jake!
