~ Aria's POV ~

As my eyelids fluttered open, I could hear whispering sounds coming from voices I could barely recognise. When I flicked my eyes open, behold—Lyra and other werewolves were in front of me.

"Finally, you're awake," she said with a mocking grin. The others stared with burning, predatory eyes that made my blood run cold.

I swallowed nothing. My throat was too dry to even gather saliva. The last thing I remembered was the Ghouls and Dragons punishing me with burning flames.

Does this mean it was time for the Werewolves as well?

God! When would this end? I muttered within me as I tried to avoid Lyra's piercing stare. I was sitting on damp, grassy ground. The sky above was dark, but the swelling brightness of the moon warned me—it was almost full.

Lyra came closer to me and began walking around me in circles while she spoke.

"You know what, Human Girl... I didn't want to get involved in anything that has to do with you. I seriously didn't care if you are a part of this school

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 55

~ Aria's POV ~ I stood there, completely confused about why they acted like I didn't exist. Wasn’t this what they wanted? For me to stay? So why were they treating me like a ghost? Then the mean words I had said to them—especially to Thorne—hit me, like an iron fist to the chest.Of course, Raven and Thorne were angry. They had every right to be after the way I spoke to them. But why was Lucian in it too? The only wrong I did was not saying goodbye to him, and he was kind of mean. Among the three of them, he was the only one who didn't try to stop me from leaving.I glanced over at him. For a second, his eyes met mine—but then he looked away, pretending he hadn’t seen me. He turned back to his friends. Isolde was there too, perched beside them like a queen on her poisonous throne, and the look she shot me could have peeled my skin off.Raven and Thorne didn't even take a moment to spare me a glance. They were laser-focused on their food like they hadn’t eaten in days. Like I didn’t m

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 54

~ Aria's POV ~I sat down on my bed, my eyes glued to my fingernails, recalling over and over again how claws had sprouted from them. My hand also went to my forehead, recalling how I had healed up in an instant from that deep wound that could send anyone straight to their grave. Why couldn’t I remember having such a massive gash on my forehead? And what happened to the one-eared man? The truck driver? Why did they vanish like the accident never happened? It was strange, and even more strange how I had come back to the academy without knowing. If not for Jeremiah, who had also witnessed the accident, I wouldn't have been so sure the accident happened.I tried to think hard, harder than I did the first time. But my memories about the accident were blank, wiped clean like a plain white sheet. My hand grazed my forehead again, and I suddenly stood from the bed I had been lying on for the past thirty minutes—ever since I told Miss Hellcat I wasn’t leaving anymore. My eyes scanned the room

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 53

~ Aria's POV ~Halfway out of Velmora, Jeremiah pulled over to refill the gas tank. While he handled that, I leaned back against the car, my eyes fixed on nothing in particular—just staring into space.I wasn't just staring into space. My thoughts were lingered on Raven, Thorne and Lucian. I kept wondering what they were doing right now.Was Thorne still angry about my words? Was Raven mad at me for mentioning his deceased girlfriend's name? And Lucian... Was he sad about me leaving or he has he gone out to have sex?The questions circled like vultures, picking away at my sanity, and I let out a sigh."Is he your boyfriend?" Jeremiah's voice broke through the fog in my mind.I blinked, turning to him. "Huh?""The guy from earlier," he clarified. "Is he your boyfriend?""No, he's not my boyfriend. Why would you even think so?" I murmured. He shrugged. "Your face changed after seeing him. You've been out of it since your conversation with him. It’s like… you’re here, but you’re not. Is

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 52

~ Aria's POV ~Before I could even form words, Raven stormed toward the car. He yanked the door open and pulled me out without warning."What's this nonsense I heard from Darian about you leaving?!" His voice thundered with fury. His usually perfect hair was a mess, strands falling across his pale face. His shirt was rumpled, his collar stretched—like he had just fought an army to get here.He was taken by his dad. Did he fight through his father’s men just to find me?It was pretty obvious he did, and if he wasn't a vampire, he'd have had some bruises as evidence from the fight."You were going to leave without telling me?" he asked again. His voice had always been cold, but right now it was glacial—colder than the Atlantic Ocean in winter."There wasn’t time to tell you, Raven... I figured you’d find out when you return to the Academy," I said softly."What Academy?" Jeremiah’s voice cut in as he stepped out of his neighbor’s car, frowning. His eyes darted to Raven's hand that was o

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 51

~ Aria's POV ~ I looked deep into his eyes, and I could clearly see he meant every word... that he didn't want me to leave. I was glad that he didn't react the way Lucian did, but sadly, I wanted to leave.I was tired of being here. I couldn't even bear to stay in this school for another second."Let go of me, Thorne," I said. I wasn't trying to break free from him. It would be pointless to do so."Didn't you hear what I just said? I won't let you leave!" he snapped, his voice rising with frustration, almost like he expected me to obey without question."I already made my decision to leave. Throwing my luggage away won't stop me from leaving," I said. His grip tightened around me, firm and desperate. "Is it because of the accusations?” he growled. "I’ll beat Seraphina and Ixora until they confess! I swear I’ll make them regret it.""Let go of me, Thorne," I said, but he only held me tighter, his fingers digging painfully into my shoulders."You're not leaving. You won’t!" he barked,

  • Torn Between Monsters    Chapter 50

~ Aria's POV ~I placed the last of my clothes into my luggage while Callista sat on her bed, her expression weighed down with sadness."Are you really sure about this? You want to leave?" she asked, her voice cracking as if the words hurt to speak. The news of my decision to leave the Academy had spread like wildfire—and the saddest part? Everyone was excited about it. It was painful they never wanted me here in the first place.I gave Callista a soft smile and nodded."Don't you think you need to think this through? Leaving isn't the best option. It's like agreeing to the accusations Seraphina and Ixora laid against you.Ixora was the name of the girl who had started the accusation about me killing those vampires with crosses."I don’t care anymore, Callista. They didn’t exactly lie. I had something to do with what happened to those vampires," I said quietly."But you didn’t kill them on purpose. You told me your blood acted on its own—it protected you. Shouldn’t you want to underst
