CHAPTER 5 DESIRE REAWAKENED

last update Last Updated: 2025-02-23 11:47:08

Ryder was enraged by Nora's statements by the time he arrived at the Zodak pack hall for the celebration prepared by Alpha Alex to celebrate his arrival. Many attractive damsels made signals and threw themselves at him. It made him giggle as he recalled the limitless number of ladies who thought they could tame and mate him, only to get fascinated with his physique and be discarded when he grew bored of them. As the party continued, other attractive women piqued his interest, and he resolved that if he couldn't have Nora at his side tonight, he'd vent his frustration on them in bed. Ryder didn't like Alpha Alex, but he was impressed by the splendor of the party.

Alex was powerful and ruthless, but not at his level. However, Ryder was aware that he needed to be restrained lest he develop wings and become arrogant. After all, Zodak had formed tight bonds with the pack he had recently subdued. Ryder's disgust for the pompous Alex was exacerbated by the fact that he was only concerned with his position, not his pack, mates, or even Nora. If he did, he would trust her and find out who was responsible for his mother's death rather than believing lies. Every powerful man understood that to fully achieve, he needed to be careful who he surrounded himself with. Alex didn't care. Rumor had it that it was his mate who looked over the welfare of the pack. The same Nora he deceived me to abandon, making me believe she was cursed. Ryder felt horrible and despised him because he now knew better. Though he wanted Nora back, he despised the term mate; he could never have one or leave his pack in the care of a female. He just regarded them as free fucks. Tired of the chaos, he was ready to call it a night when the anchor announced. "And on a final note, let's have some closing remarks from Zodak's adorable Luna, Eve Smith," cheers and clapping rang around the hall. Eve ascended the stage, and Nora followed behind her. Ryder was curious to meet Nora again. He watched as she approached the platform alongside Eve, dressed in a pale green sheath gown that accentuated her proportions and eyes. He sighed. Fuck! She looked stunning, and any thoughts of having another lady that night evaporated. His inner beast wreaked havoc. Ryder wanted her, regardless of whether she was someone else's mate. He followed her every step, his gaze savoring her body. He barely heard anything Eve had said. She had been nothing more than a ghost to Ryder for so long, a hazy remembrance of a love lost. But now, standing in front of him, she was like a vision—an alluring reminder of everything he had lost. His breath caught in his throat.

Her beauty was evident, and seeing her triggered something deep within him—something primitive. His gaze swept over her, tracing the exquisite curve of her neck and how her gown adhered to her body. He clenched his fists, a wave of frustration rushing through him. How could she be standing so near to him and so far away? Eve's voice drew him back into the present. "Thank you all for the warm welcome," she continued, her voice full of tenderness, but Ryder hardly heard her. He couldn't take his gaze off Nora. The spotlight shone on her, and she froze for a second as if the weight of her new fate had struck her. Her eyes flashed over the room, and When her gaze fell on Ryder, something inside her changed. For a brief moment, their gazes connected, and the world appeared to blur. "Ryder," she said under her breath. Her lips quivered slightly as she caught herself, but he could hear her voice, which was gentle and full of what may have been anguish. He wanted to shout out to her, to go up and grab her in his arms, to whisk her away from this place, but the words stopped in his mouth. Instead, he stood there, watching her, overwhelmed by the desire to claim her once more. The crowd's applause got louder, and Nora shifted, staring down at the ground and attempting to control her breathing. Ryder noticed the agony on her face. The expression, the reluctance, just stoked the fury within him. Eve, oblivious to the growing tension between the two of them, resumed her lecture, but Ryder was no longer listening. He’d seen enough. As the applause subsided, he couldn't take it anymore.

Nora gazed into the night. Outside the cave was colder than Nora remembered. The moon hung low, casting sparkling light across the valley below, and her bare feet pressed into the damp earth as she walked with purpose, shoulders squared and eyes blazing with determination to see the end of Eve's evil plans. Just behind her, Alex and Ryder followed, silent and vigilant.“I need answers,” she said as they walked, not looking behind.“Answers? I have some,” Alex said under breath. “But I don’t think you’re ready to hear them now.”She turned on him, eyes fixed on him. “Try me and let it out.”Alpha Alex sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. “The day I found my mother died…I wasn’t just lied to, Nora. I was enchanted, the elderly seers told me. Eve used a blood-binding charm. I couldn’t think straight, couldn’t even question her. I saw what she wanted me to see and did only what she asked.”“Oh super convenient,” Ryder uttered. “So now that she had escaped death twice, you suddenly reme

The forest around them pulses with the silence of anticipation, broken only by the rare whistling of an owl or the scratches of dry leaves beneath their feet. The moon hung high in the sky, radiating pale beams of blurred silver that filtered through the canopy trees, lighting their path as Nora, Alex, and Ryder moved through the woods forest, creating a path in the bushes. She adjusted her shoulder, her body still ached and her wrists were still red and raw from the silver chains. But Nora minds? Was sharp, clear and focused. There was no going back to that fragile wolf she was. Not after everything Eve had made her gone through in the hands of Alpha Alex.“I…I think we should stop here and rest for the night,” Ryder said suddenly, his voice steady as he gazed at Nora. His eyes held the concern of a man who hadn’t stopped watching her since they left the cave after fighting the deadly rogues.Nora nodded, appreciative but speechless. She was super tired, yes. But mostly, she was thin

Her heart continued to pound tightly in her chest as the event before her unfolded like a scary nightmare, everything around her was strange. Dreadful rogues moved in, their glowing red eyes filled with evil, surrounding her and the masked man like a pack of hungry predators that have seen a prey to devour. The scent of blood and groans thickened in the air. Despite the danger, her eyes were fixed on the masked figure standing protectively in front of her.Nora inhaled, she knew that scent. That dreaded, powerful and familiar aura. The way he moved with precise, lethal grace with royalty.Yes, it was “Alex”.B..but why was he here? Why had he come to save her after everything he had done? Everywhere was dark when she woke up, she was no longer in the Zodak packhouse.Nora's head pounded, her body felt weak, and the sharp scent of earth and damp stone filled her nose.“Where am I?” She asked, opening her eyes slightly. With chains bounding her wrists tightly, which glow faintly with silver runes that suppressed her wolf within. She could feel a scary shadow loomed over her, she closed her eyes and reopen them again for a clearer vision, then she found herself staring at a face she hadn’t seen in years.A face that sent t chill through her spine.“Hello, Nora,” the man said, his voice smooth and deadly. “Did you miss me?”Her heart skips seeing the face standing before her, dressed in dark robes and exuding raw, terrifying power….Was the rogue Alpha who had once sworn to destroy the Zodak pack and behind him was Eve, smiling. “This is your new home Nora” A cave, this is where you belong. In the morning, Nora moved through the packhouse as if nothing had changed. She kept her head low, avoiding Eve and Alex as much as she could. But inside, she was counting the hours until she could retrieve the tracker stone from Eve’s room without being noticed. And If it worked, she would finally have proof. That evening, a sharp knock on her door made her blood cold. She turned the handle slowly and found herself face-to-face with two of Alex’s most powerful warriors.“Alpha Alex wants to see you,” one of them said, his face unreadable. She swallowed the hard lump in her throat. Was it because she declared she and Ryder had been together? Or did they catch her sneaking into Eve’s room the other day? Oh, maybe the tracker had been found? Whatever it was, seems urgent and important than whatever she had disclosed yesterday. She forced herself to nod. “I..I’ll be right behind you.”Her heart kept racing, as she followed them through the corridor. What if this was it? Her breath fastened as Ryder’s lips moved against hers, slow and steady……it deepened into something rough and intense as if he was trying to prove a point with every touch that he meant what he said. His hands cupped her face gently and romancing it with his fingers, his touch both familiar and dreadful. A storm of unexplainable emotions raged inside her…anger, longing, betrayal, and something deeper, something terrifying or maybe something she couldn't explain.Nora inhaled as his hands slid to her waist, pulling her against him. She could feel the beating of his heart against hers, the warmth of his body wrapping her like a promise he would never break again. She should push him away. She should remind herself of the pain he had once caused her, of the nights she had cried herself to sleep, cursing his name, the several calls and messages without reply But the moment his fingers trailed down her arm, sending shivers across her skin, she melted into him, lost with desirable pleasure.
