Chapter 24

“How did you come up with such bold ideas?” Khan Roswell asked, sitting cross-legged on the sofa, her eyes fixed on Hilda who was having breakfast.

The four of them were present. Hilda had invited them in after hearing the noise they made in the backyard.

Khan brought up what they had witnessed the previous night, then asked if Hilda truly believed Aron would keep his promise.

“I’m not sure,” Hilda answered, “but there’s no harm in expecting and believing that maybe—just maybe—something will change.”

She said Aron had been kind to her, and as long as he wasn’t triggered, he was harmless.

Hilda bit into her bread and chewed. Then she added that she had no choice.

“To survive, I have to consider every possible way, take risks, and use every opportunity,” she said. “I’m not in a position to choose what’s best for me. As long as I don’t die on the spot, I won’t hesitate to do whatever it takes.”
