Chapter 1

The sound of my own flesh burning in the flames still echoed in my ears. The soul-crushing agony made my eyes snap open.

There was no wooden cross. No mob screaming for my death.

Only the lavish vaulted ceiling of the Mycenaean palace.

"My Queen, why are you so pale and drenched in sweat?"

My loyal maid, Chloe, looked at me with concern, pinching a soiled piece of parchment in her hand. "A woman handed this in. She says she wishes to see you."

The note read: Your Highness, do you still remember our days on Mount Olympus?

I glared at the parchment, my blood running cold.

In my past life, it was this exact note that made me invite a snake into my home, ultimately leading to my death on the pyre.

"Let her in." I took a deep breath, burying the murderous intent in my eyes.

The heavy doors pushed open, and Lyra walked in. Covered in mud with tangled hair, she looked like a total beggar.

"My Queen, I finally found you!" She dropped to her knees at my feet, her face the picture of absolute sincerity.

"When you sneaked down to the mortal realm, I was terrified! I could not stop worrying about you, so I risked everything to find you. Please, let me stay by your side and serve you again!"

Looking at her pathetic, tear-stained face, I only felt a wave of nausea.

Loyalty? Serving me?

In my past life, she used this exact excuse to win my heart. I was so moved by her devotion.

It was not until I died that I learned the truth: she had not come down here for me at all.

She was just a filthy thief who had been banished to the mortal realm for stealing my mothers jewelry!

I watched her little performance with cold detachment.

"Lyra, you have suffered so much." I forced a smile, leaning down to give her a gentle hug.

"Of course I will take you in." I chuckled lightly. "Chloe, have them clean out the grandest guest room in the East Wing for Lyra. And send over a few of my dresses."

Chloe looked reluctant, but she did as she was told.

Lyra knelt on the floor, bowing over and over in gratitude. But the moment she lowered her head, I caught the unmistakable flash of pure greed in her eyes.

Enjoy it, Lyra.

Every ounce of luxury you revel in now will be the very thing that signs your death warrant.

The next morning, Lyra walked in carrying a silver goblet.

She had changed into the silk gown I gifted her, looking like a completely different person.

"My Queen, this is your favorite wine. I have always remembered," she smiled sweetly, offering the cup with both hands.

I smiled back. "You are still so thoughtful, Lyra."

In my past life, I drank this wine and slept through the entire day.

While I was unconscious, she sneaked into the hot springs and accidentally ran into Kaelen.

I reached out calmly, but the moment my fingers brushed the goblet, my wrist jerked.

The silver cup hit the floor with a clatter. Red wine splashed all over Lyra, ruining her expensive silk dress.

"Oh no!" I gasped, feigning absolute dismay. "I am so sorry, Lyra. My hand slipped."

The smile froze on Lyras face.

"It... it is fine," she took a deep breath, forcing her smile back into place. "I will go pour you another."

"No need," I interrupted, pointing out the window. "Lyra, the irises on the back mountain are blooming. Go pick some for me. I would like them by my bed."

Lyra froze. "The back mountain?"

"What, you do not want to?" My face hardened.

"No! I will go right now!" She gritted her teeth, turned, and hurried out.

Yet, it did not take long before I heard the whispers. King Kaelen had run into a flower-picking maiden on the back mountain. They had a lovely chat, and Kaelen had not stopped singing her praises, even calling her as enchanting as a woodland nymph.

I let out a cold laugh.

It seemed that even when I ruined her original plan, she would still use every trick in the book to seduce him.

That afternoon, Lyra came to me, looking absolutely terrified.

"My Queen! Please punish me! I... when I was picking flowers, I accidentally ran into His Majesty..."

She looked up, her eyes red, tears welling perfectly. "I swear I did not mean to! I did not know the King would be there! Please believe me!"

I watched her masterful acting without a single ripple of emotion.

"Silly girl, get up." I stepped forward and helped her up myself, my eyes full of nothing but trust and comfort. "Why would I blame you? It was just an accident. You are my most trusted handmaid. Why would anything ever happen between you and my husband?"

Lyra stiffened, clearly struck a nerve. "Of course not..."

Over the next few days, Lyra played her greatest hits.

She accidentally dropped her handkerchief in the hallways; she carelessly spooked Kaelens horse in the gardens; she even unintentionally showed off her divine singing voice at a banquet.

Instead of punishing her, I used my authority as queen to secretly orchestrate even more run-ins for them.

Soon, the palace rumor mill was working overtime about Lyra and the King.

The staff started looking at me with pity.

But I played the fool perfectly, acting like the blissfully ignorant wife.

Take your time and play, Lyra. This is only the beginning.

When I returned to Olympus, my mother and father were heartbroken to see the state I was in.They held me tightly, not having the heart to utter a single word of blame for my reckless rebellion.Wrapped in their unconditional love, I felt a warmth I had not known in ages. I finally realized just how foolish and naive I had been to run away for something as trivial as mortal love. One month later.I suddenly felt an intense, desperate prayer echoing up from the mortal realm.Mildly curious, I parted the clouds and looked down.In just one month, Mycenae had completely fallen beneath the iron boots of the Spartan army.Kaelen, stripped of his crown, was now dressed in rags, caked in mud, hiding in a dark, freezing cave like a stray dog.In front of him sat a crude, pathetic statue made of mud—a statue of me.He was kneeling before it, slamming his head against the ground, praying day and night just for a chance to see me again. With a thought, I sent a phantom projection of myself down i

The screaming mob went entirely silent, forced to their knees as if a giant, invisible hand had pressed their skulls to the dirt. Not just the commoners. The arrogant nobles trembled violently under the crushing weight of pure divine wrath, unable to lift their heads even an inch.A blinding pillar of golden light smashed down from the heavens.Within the light stood Zeus, King of the Gods, gripping his thunderbolt. His terrifying eyes, filled with absolute fury and deep paternal heartache, locked onto me."Father," I smiled, my voice carrying clearly through the dead-silent square. That single word struck Kaelen and Lyra like a physical blow."F-Father?" Kaelen jerked his head up, every ounce of blood draining from his handsome face until he was paler than a corpse. His pupils shook violently as he stared at me in horror, as if seeing the woman he had shared a bed with for the very first time.Slumped on the ground, Lyra was convulsing in terror, biting through her own lip until blood

"Regret? For the survival of Mycenae, I will never have regrets." Kaelen stopped, turning back to look at me."Valentina, you angered the gods. As the King, I have to make the hardest choices for my people and my countrys future.""For the country?" I threw my head back and laughed, the sound echoing across the silent square.I turned my gaze to Lyra, who was practically buzzing with glee beside him."Since you are going to kill me," I raised an eyebrow, my voice dripping with mocking provocation, "why do not we let our great Holy Maiden show us one last miracle before I die? The Spartans are at the gates. If she summons the nine winds or calls down divine wrath, Mycenae will win without striking a blow. Let me die in absolute awe, knowing I was wrong."Every single eye in the square shifted to Lyra. The bloodthirsty mob suddenly looked hopeful. With Spartan blades inches from their throats, they wanted a divine savior much more than an execution."I..." Lyra went deathly pale, instinc

Looking at the cold steel pointed at me, and Kaelens face so full of righteous duty, I could not help but sneer inwardly. In my past life, I faced this exact same scene in this exact same room.My heart had felt like it was being sliced into a thousand pieces. I could not breathe.I had cried and begged, trying to wake up even a fraction of the love he once had for me.Now, seeing the man I once gave everything to pushing me into the abyss, my heart still gave a phantom twinge.A final mourning for my own stupid, naive love."Is that so? Just locking me up?" I asked, my voice dead calm.Lyra stepped out from behind the guards.Wearing her pure white robes, her eyes gleamed with toxic triumph."My Queen, please endure this hardship for now," she sighed dramatically, her eyes rimmed red with fake tears. "For the safety of Mycenae, we must isolate you. Once the disasters pass and you are proven innocent, you will return as our most honored Queen."How sweet it sounded. But I knew exactly

Angry?Looking at Kaelens handsome but hypocritical face, I laughed coldly in my mind.In my past life, hearing those words felt like a knife twisting in my heart. I was so angry I thought I would go mad.Back then, I naively begged him to retract the decree. He coldly refused, lecturing me: "Valentina, you are my Queen. Stop acting like a child."But in this life, I saw him for exactly who he was.The only thing he loved was his crown."Why would I be angry?" I met his complicated gaze with a flawless smile. "You are the King of Mycenae. Every choice you make is for the survival of this nation. It is my job to understand that."Kaelens face darkened instantly."Fine! Excellent!" He spun around, gritting his teeth. "So magnanimous of you. A true Queen of Mycenae!"He stormed out, his retreating figure radiating frustrated humiliation.I picked up my water goblet and took a slow sip.Over the next few days, Lyra rode the high of her new title, parading around the kingdom. To cement her

The arm Lyra held in the air began to tremble uncontrollably. She stared wide-eyed at the perfectly still sky.Faced with the crushing weight of a hundred suspicious stares, Lyra forced a mask of profound mystery onto her face. She let out a dry, hollow laugh, though her voice shook. "The God of Winds... is simply in a foul mood today."The pathetic excuse echoed awkwardly in the massive hall."The will of the divine is not something you mortals can easily comprehend," she forged ahead, desperate. "But eight gales are proof enough of the gods sincerity. It is more than enough to keep Mycenae undefeated!"It was a terrible lie, one that could not fool the battle-hardened nobles and cunning lords in the room. The Feast of Divine Grace, which was supposed to be a night of endless revelry, ended abruptly in thick, uncomfortable suspicion.Kaelens face was thunderous. He stood up from his throne, did not even spare Lyra a glance, and stormed out of the hall.Watching his furious retreat, I
