Ashley’s POV

It took some time to settle everyone. The villagers were escorted to the basement beneath the castle, where they would remain until we could determine whether it was safe for them to move around freely. Guards were stationed at the entrance, and Beth was instructed to keep a close eye on anyone who developed unusual symptoms.

Xavier arranged for Mom and me to stay in one of the rooms inside the castle. By the time we finally entered our room, my entire body felt as though it had be

Aries’s POVI had been pacing back and forth across my room for what felt like forever. My hands were clasped behind my back, and every few seconds, I stopped to stare at the floor before resuming my restless movements.I couldn’t get the image of Ashley out of my head. That girl was getting everything I had worked so hard to achieve. First, Xavier’s attention, and now, the position of the kingdom’s chief scholar. What exactly was happening?A soft creak from the door interrupted my thoughts. I turned just as Elara pushed it open and stepped inside, carrying a tray of food. She glanced at me before carefully placing it on the table.“Your… your parents were asking if you would be joining them at the table,” she said, hesitating slightly.I folded my arms. “And what did you tell them?”“That you had decided to turn in early.”I let out a tired breath before sinking into the nearest chair. My head fell against the backrest as I stared at the ceiling. “How did things get this bad?”Elara

Ashley’s POVXavier turned towards the door. I watched as he slipped the key into the lock and turned it. The door creaked open, revealing Aries and Elara standing outside.Aries was the first to peek into the room. The moment her eyes landed on me, her eyebrows shot up. She looked at me, then at Xavier, before folding her arms across her chest.“What? Is this the quarantine room, Xavier? Do you even understand the meaning of quarantine?” she asked, her gaze shifting between us.Xavier let out an irritated sigh. “What do you want, Aries?”“Xavier, what exactly are you doing?” She stepped closer, her expression hardening. “The kingdom is facing a serious crisis, and you’re here playing friendship with her. Do you think your father will approve of this?”Xavier’s jaw tightened. “What’s your problem, Aries? Is that why you came here?” He folded his arms. “You expect me to leave her in that isolation room for something I did? I don’t see anything wrong with keeping her in my room for the

Ashley’s POV“Ashley, don’t tell me…”Xavier immediately stepped forward, cutting Aries off before she could finish her sentence. “I did it. It was an accident,” he said firmly, positioning himself slightly in front of me.“What accident? I hope you’re not trying to cover up for her?” Aries asked, her eyes narrowing suspiciously.“I said I did it, Aries!” Xavier snapped. “We were wrestling with an infected, and while I was holding her, I accidentally scratched her. That’s all.”Aries stared at him for a moment, seemingly unconvinced. “Xavier, you’re forgetting something.”He frowned. “What?”“I’ve fought alongside you since we were young. We’ve trained together countless times, and you’ve never accidentally hurt me. Not once. Do you know why? Because you’re always careful, even when we’re fighting.”“That’s different,” he countered, running a hand through his hair. “We were practicing. Out there, it’s a matter of life and death. Things happen, Aries. I was trying to keep an infected a

Ashley’s POVXavier noticed it too. His expression hardened as he unsheathed his sword and charged towards the infected. He swung his sword, aiming straight for its heart. He lunged his sword at it, barely it’s heart, but the creature didn’t even flinch. It didn’t turn to look at him or acknowledge his presence. Instead, it continued running towards me, its movements growing more frantic with every step. It was as though I was the only thing it could see.“Protect her!” Xavier screamed. Before he could attack again, the infected struck him with such force that he went crashing to the ground. “Your Highness!” one of the men shouted.Several soldiers immediately rushed forward. Some shot arrows while others charged at the creature with their swords. It fought with an almost frightening determination, dodging their attacks and throwing anyone who came close to it aside. Its eyes remained fixed on me, and nothing, not even the swords piercing its body, seemed capable of distracting it.

Ashley’s POVI hesitated, struggling to find the right words. “What if I become useless to everyone? What if I can no longer help with the apocalypse? Will I still be important to you? Will everyone still look at me the same way, or will they discard me the moment I become a burden?”“Ashley…”He reached for my hand, but I lowered my eyes before he could see the tears gathering in them.“Just answer me, Xavier.”“Of course you would still be important to me!” His voice carried a firmness that made me look up. “Listen to me. Even before all this started, you were important to me. I didn’t suddenly start caring about you because of your involvement in saving the kingdom.”He gently squeezed my hand. “And I meant what I said about making you my queen when all this is over. I haven’t changed my mind, and I don’t intend to.”My lips trembled. I quickly looked down, but a tear escaped before I could stop it.“I don’t want to give up my necklace just yet.”His eyebrows pulled together. “Give

  • Transmigrated seven days before the Apocalypse    Chapter 24: The One It Came For

Ashley’s POVMy heart hammered against my chest as I stared at the scratch on my skin. Should I hide it from Xavier? What if I had already been infected? What if I eventually turned into one of those creatures? Would I lose my chance of returning to my world forever?I had always believed I was fated to die at the hands of Aries, but what if that was no longer my fate? Why had I been scratched in the first place? If the story was no longer following the same sequence I had read, did that mean everything I thought I knew was wrong? And if I had gotten everything wrong, what exactly was waiting for me?“Ashley…” Xavier’s voice interrupted my thoughts. “Your… your necklace is glowing?”My eyes widened slightly. I immediately looked down, only to find the pendant glowing beneath my clothes.A fresh wave of panic washed over me. I quickly covered it with my palm, hoping he wouldn’t notice how tightly my fingers were trembling. I was terrified. If I told him the truth about the scratch, the
