“Remember when we used to go window-shopping with only 10$ to our name, acting as if we owned the world, and returning home to have noodles?”

Maria’s nostalgia would have tugged at Rose’s heartstrings had the circumstances been different. As it was, she couldn’t help but be wary of the one who used to be her friend.

She let out a noncommittal sound in the back of her throat, which was meant to be encouraging, and Maria went on, “We were tight, and not even the devil himself would have been able to break us apart,” she shot a not so discreet look to Roman, and Rose had to refrain from voicing out her thoughts.

“There were no secrets between us, and everyone envied us… The bond we had was special alright.”

Roman yawned rather audibly, and Rose couldn’t help the faint smirk that played on her lips. Indeed, Maria was trying to be manipulative by bringing up the past, but Rose wasn’t about to fall for that.

“Maria,” she began, stopping the woman before she could speak further, “What a

Although Rose was as elated as any woman would be in a similar situation, she didn’t fully understand why Roman was openly kissing her for the first time. Indeed, even though he was a mafia boss – and as such, one would expect him to have less reserve when it came to PDA – this was the first time he made out with her despite having an audience. When his lips finally left hers, and he gave her room to breathe, he kissed the top of her head, and grumbled, “Be my woman, Rosalina Marcels.” “Huh?” Rose looked up into his eyes, which were peering down at her with fervor. Icy blue met brown, and she wondered for a moment there if she had heard correctly. It couldn’t be, could it? And yet, for the first time ever, Roman appeared to be almost reluctant to speak, and for a moment there she found him adorably shy even. “Be my woman,” he repeated in a hushed tone of voice, making the moment intimate beyond words, and making the whole world around them disappear. Her heart drummed in her ears

It was only once Flora was wheeled into surgery that Rose managed to breathe out and cry openly. Looking at the blood smearing her hands, she felt uncomfortable. The irony wasn’t lost on her. She was a nurse for heaven’s sake, and yet she felt squeamish at the sight of blood? That was a first for her, after her training – during which she had almost fainted. And she wondered whether it was because it was Flora’s, that she felt so out of sorts. She barely spared a look at Roman, who had come to sign the hospital paperwork, before rushing to the restroom. She washed her hands many times. And though she had gotten most of the blood off, it felt like it just wasn’t enough. The door of the restroom soon opened, but she didn’t stop scrubbing. Roman stepped in, his height towering over Rose, who was hunched over the sink, crying. Though the man wasn’t exactly a fan of PDA, and many other things for that matter, he didn’t waste a second to hug her from behind. Having recognized his frag

Enzo’s face became immediately conflicted. But even as he saw Flora fall to the floor, in pain, unable to hold herself upright, he didn’t cave, “I can’t possibly leave you two here alone. I shot the shooter, but there might be a second one somewhere.” “Call for an ambulance then,” Rose retorted, her eyes full of tears, desperate but earnest, while pressing on Flora’s wound still. “It’s okay,” it was Flora who breathed out the response. “Everything will be okay, Rose.” “Please don’t speak,” Rose implored her, her tears spilling over, not knowing what else to do. “Keep your energy.” “Help is on the way,” Enzo deadpanned before she would willingly give him a headache. He stood over them, shielding them, his stance strong, intimidating and unyielding. Rose didn’t know how long she kept pressing on the wound, while tears made her vision blurry, but she remained strong, knowing that this was partly her fault. She was to blame for the mess that had happened. If she hadn’t asked that Fl

A couple of days later, Rose was having lunch with the core members of Roman’s men, and the man she fell for himself, absent-mindedly chewing her food, her head in the clouds, when he spoke up.“Why not go shopping since you don’t care to resume work just yet?” Roman let out, a faint smirk on his face, as if there was an inside joke only he was aware of.“I have everything I could possibly want,” she tilted her head to the side in a quizzical manner. “Why not let me have one more chill day?”Roman raised an eyebrow at that, only he was looking straight at Stefan, and the latter handed him a credit card.“What’s going on?” Rose wondered out loud, both her eyebrows shooting up in her hairline.“I told him you need some time away from the base, and all the testosterone,” Stefan breathed out, a mild sheepish look on his face, despite his earnest tone of voice.Rose let out a stunned “Oh” in a hushed voice at that.“He said you were enjoying your time at the base lately,” he went on, to wh

Roman didn’t return till late in the evening. Rose, who had been on a bench in the gardens, didn’t bother asking him how his day went. From the faint smirk on his face, she could tell that he had done what he had set out to do.“Looking as handsome and put-together as when you left,” she commented in a soft, teasing tone of voice.“As to be expected, or nah?” He retorted, his smirk broadening.“Totally,” she nodded eagerly before rising to her feet.“Why didn’t you go to bed already?” He asked as he held a hand out to her.She took it wordlessly, and didn’t hesitate to raise it to her cheek, where she shamelessly nuzzled it.“I was waiting for you,” she said after a beat.“You can return to your job whenever you’d like,” he declared as he gazed deep into her eyes.“But I thought…” she protested, and then catching on, her eyes widened.“I’d have loved to torture them some more, as they deserved it, but I know my little butterfly needs some kind of reassurance to sleep soundly.” Her eyes
