Livia returned to the party hall.

The atmosphere was still lively, with famous singers taking turns on stage. Laughter and music echoed through the grand space, but Livia's heart felt heavier with every step.

She returned to Damian's side-her husband now-and found him already speaking to another woman.

The woman was stunning. Elegant. Clearly someone from a wealthy and powerful family.

"Congratulations on becoming the wife of such a great man like Brother Damian," the woman said with a sweet smile.

She had called Damian "Brother." That familiarity-it meant they were close. Too close.

"Thank you, Miss," Livia replied with a practiced, graceful smile, as though truly grateful to be married to the man standing beside her.

"Just call me Clarissa," the woman said lightly.

"Alright, Miss Clarissa," Livia replied, still smiling.

Clarissa ignored the hint of distance in Livia's tone. Instead, she leaned into Damian, wrapping her arm around his with ease-like it was hers by right. "Brother, will you stay for the rest of the party?" she asked, smiling coyly, completely ignoring the presence of Damian's wife.

"You look as handsome as ever tonight."

"Let go of me," Damian snapped, his tone sharp and cold.

Clarissa's hand dropped immediately, her smile faltering. That tone... he had never used it on her before. Was it because of Livia? Did he actually care about this girl he married? No. Impossible.

Clarissa clenched her fists. She knew exactly who Damian used to love.

Without another word, Damian turned and left them both standing there. A few guests greeted him with respectful bows as he passed, before he disappeared into the VVIP lounge, surrounded by powerful men.

Livia clenched her hands silently at her sides.

'Damn it, Damian. You called me back here just to leave me again? I would've rather stayed in the garden with David.'

"You really think Damian married you because he loves you?" Clarissa asked, her voice dropping into something far colder than before. The sweetness was gone, her gaze sharp enough to slice.

Livia didn't blink. "Miss Clarissa, you should ask my husband why he chose me."

"You're just a nobody. Don't dream of ever winning his heart."

Livia took a long, deep breath to suppress her annoyance. 'What is her problem? Why curse me like this out of nowhere?'

"At least he chose to marry me, and now I'm his wife," Livia replied, voice sweet, lips curved in a perfect smile.

Inside, she felt nauseous. 'Ugh. That came out more smug than I wanted.'

Clarissa's face twisted with rage.

"Do you even know who he loves? Who he's slept with?"

"I don't," Livia said calmly. "But starting tonight, I'm the one sharing his bed."

Clarissa's face turned scarlet.

"You-!"

"I don't know what kind of relationship you had with my husband before, Miss Clarissa," Livia cut her off, her tone steady, "but please don't bother me in the future."

"You think you've won, don't you?"

Clarissa stormed away, muttering curses under her breath, her eyes sharp with hatred.

Livia watched her go, shoulders straight, jaw tight.

She had to act tough. If she let her guard down even once, people like Clarissa would tear her apart. Marrying Damian Alexander had already stripped away her pride. She wouldn't let them take anything else.

...

The night wore on, and the party gradually came to an end.

"Take the young lady home," Damian instructed one of his drivers before leaving in a different car with Assistant Brown behind the wheel.

Livia stood on the steps, watching her husband's car pull away. She bit her lower lip, hands curling into fists.

This was what she had expected.

The wedding was over.

And now, real married life began-an abyss waiting to swallow her whole if she took even one wrong step.

"I'll take you home, Young Lady," the driver said as he opened the door for her.

"Thank you. Sorry for the trouble," Livia replied politely as she got in.

The driver glanced at her in the rearview mirror, startled by her manners. No woman close to Damian had ever spoken to him like that.

He caught a glimpse of her reflection-tears were silently streaming down her cheeks.

The car eventually passed through a towering iron gate and into a massive estate.

Livia looked out the window. The garden was beautifully lit, but it felt more like a gilded cage. She saw guards standing quietly, watching. The moment she entered, she had lost her freedom.

A maid greeted her at the entrance. There was no sign of Damian's mother or sisters. They had either gone home or continued the party elsewhere-just like him.

"Welcome, Young Lady. Congratulations on your wedding," the maid said, bowing.

Livia forced a smile.

'Please don't call me that. I'm just the girl exchanged for debt. You all probably have more honor than I do.'

"You must be tired. I'll show you your room."

A man led the way up the grand staircase. Livia followed quietly, numb.

They stopped in front of a double door.

"Please, come in. This is your room-and the Young Master's."

Livia hesitated. Couldn't she sleep elsewhere? Anywhere else but here?

"Please, Young Lady."

"...Okay."

She stepped inside. The room was as luxurious as she had imagined-elegant and cold.

"If you need the bathroom, it's through that door. And here's your wardrobe. Your clothes are already arranged."

Livia blinked.

'What? My suitcase is still downstairs...'

"The bathroom is connected inside as well. Please rest. I'll take my leave."

"Thank you," she said automatically.

"You don't need to thank me, Young Lady."

After the servant left, Livia collapsed onto the sofa, exhausted. She took a deep breath.

This wasn't a dream. She had really fallen into a bottomless pit.

She could only hope there weren't crocodiles waiting inside.

After a long silence, she stood and walked toward the wardrobe.

'Is this... a boutique?' she thought in disbelief.

Her and Damian's wardrobes were separated, both immaculately arranged. Every piece of clothing was new.

She pulled out a set of sleepwear and headed to the bathroom to change. Once she returned, she grabbed a blanket and pillow and settled onto the oversized sofa.

That would be her bed for tonight.

It didn't take long before she drifted off to sleep.

Jenny and Sophia chose to stand nearby-close enough to hear, but far enough to pretend they weren't directly involved. Playing it safe.Livia sat stiffly across from her mother-in-law. Silence hung in the air like a storm cloud."What's wrong, Mom?" Livia broke the silence, uneasy under the woman's calculating gaze. Her mother-in-law studied her closely, as if searching her face for secrets."How is your relationship with Damian?"Livia froze. Is this about the kiss marks? Damn it!Of course she'd noticed Damian's strange behavior-how he'd held Livia's hand, smiled, even brushed sauce off her lips at breakfast. He'd never done that before."What do you mean, Mom?" Livia asked, trying to keep her voice even. "Don't worry. I always take care of him. I do my duties as his wife."She meant the chores: drawing his bath, setting out his clothes, serving his meals. The mechanical routines expected of her.But her mother-in-law's expression darkened."Do you dream of replacing Helena?" the wo

Two very different expressions of life filled the room that morning.First-Damian's, a face glowing with satisfaction. He had tricked the woman he loved into begging him to sleep with her. A cruel victory masked in a charming grin.Second-Livia's, a face painted with shame. Shame for surrendering herself so easily to a man she hated. A man who had treated her like a maid, who clearly did not love her.To Damian, it was a night filled with passion, like a newlywed's first. But for Livia, it was something else entirely. Her expression was weary, her eyes dull, the shame lingering like a shadow."What's this?" Damian plucked at the floral scarf wrapped tightly around her neck.Dressed impeccably in a navy suit and tie, he raised a brow. "Is it winter?""No, Darling." Livia covered her face with her hands, mortified. The memory of last night was still painfully vivid. "I just... felt like wearing it."In truth, she was trying to hide the trail of hickeys he'd left across her neck-from the

Livia walked slowly toward the bed.Damian was already lying under the blanket. He didn't say a word.'I'm sure he's just bluffing. He couldn't possibly want to sleep with me. I mean... f*ck me. He obviously doesn't like me.' Livia kept still, careful not to make a sound. She just needed to lie low and wait until he fell asleep."You forgot what I said earlier?" Damian's voice cut through the silence just as Livia lay beside him. He kicked the blanket off, letting it fall to the floor. Then, his leg shifted-his right leg pressing down firmly on hers."I said I would tear you apart. Are you ready?"No one could see just how pale Livia's face had become. Her fingers trembled against the edge of the bed as she tried to move her legs. But she was no match for his strength. Damian didn't budge. The more she struggled, the more pressure he applied."Darling, I'm sorry. Forgive my mistake," Livia said softly, voice laced with submission, her tone flawless. Her acting skills were sharpening b

In the bathroom, not long after Damian stormed out and slammed the door so hard it could've given someone a heart attack, two maids entered. One of them was Maya, who was somewhat familiar with Livia.Maya scrubbed her back while the other maid trimmed and cleaned her nails.Livia stayed silent, letting them do their jobs. Though the service felt excessive, she didn't have the energy to question it.She inhaled slowly, trying to process everything that had just happened. What had made Damian so furious? He mentioned divorce earlier. How would he know-if not from Brown? That damn assistant.'He said he wants to tear me apart. What should I do this time?''First night... Should I sleep with him? He clearly doesn't like me. Is this his way of punishing me for even thinking about leaving?'She knew the contract could only be broken if Damian tore it himself. No matter what she said, she had no leverage. If she served him properly, he promised to leave her family alone. But if he was this

Livia knelt down and began taking off Damian's shoes. She moved more carefully than usual-he had been silent ever since getting out of the car.His face looked tense and irritated. Assistant Brown's warning echoed in her mind, making her heart pound all the way up the stairs:"Young Master is in a very bad mood. So don't refute anything he says."Of course, she never dared to refute him-not even when he was in a good mood. She always obeyed. But why was he upset this time? Was it because of Helena again? Livia's mind swirled with questions.Once she finished removing his shoes, she placed his house slippers gently by his feet.Just as she was about to stand, Damian pressed a hand on her shoulder, silently forcing her back to her knees.Livia's chest tightened. This wasn't just a bad mood. He was furious."Did you meet Ele today?" he asked coldly.Ba-dump.'How does he know? Is he really watching me that closely? Is Brown following me? Crank! The glass shattered into tiny shards, scattering under the table and across the wall where it had hit moments ago.The man Brown had assigned to monitor Livia stood right where the glass had landed. His hands trembled slightly, but he didn't move from his spot.Sending someone to spy on Livia had been the right decision. Brown had predicted all of this-Helena was definitely not someone who gave up easily. As the audio recording of the conversation ended, Damian's blood began to boil. Rage surged like lava in his veins. Without warning, he swept everything off his desk, sending documents and glass crashing to the floor.Brown stood silently by his side.'I've been too soft on her!' Damian seethed internally. 'Am I the only one who thought things between us were getting better? More... real? But why does it feel like I'm the only one who believed in us? She talks about divorce so easily-dream on!'Yes. Damian had made up his mind. Even if she died, she wouldn't be able to escape
