THE ACCIDENT

**REBECCA'S POV**

I slowly opened my eyes to the sound of something beeping. It sounded like a Pulse oximeter and indeed it was. I let my eyes scan the unfamiliar room and then i realized I was in a hospital, but how? I tried getting up from the bed but my body was too weak to move.

“What happened to me?” I muttered as I tried to recall what happened. The last memory I had was that of me trying to escape the building and then..

“Aghh!” I screamed in pain and held my head as a bad headache kicked in, stopping me from remembering further.

The door came open almost immediately and a young lady in a nurse outfit walked in.

“You're awake, thank goodness.” She said with a smile and I raised my head to take a proper look at her. I noticed there was someone standing next to her and I didn't need to see properly to know it was a male since he had an obviously muscular body.

“How are you feeling Rebecca?” The nurse asked but I wasn't sure if she was asking me so I kept mute.

“Rebecca? Can you talk?” She asked again, this time staring directly at me. It was obvious she was talking to me but I never said my name was Rebecca so who gave her that false information?

“Who is Rebecca?” I asked weakly and she seemed puzzled for a while before smiling sweetly.

“The doctor did say you suffered a terrible concussion and it might affect your memory but don't worry it's only temporary.” She assured and the man beside her step forward.

I could finally see his face clearly. His mid length dark hair, those unfathomable grey eyes that held no expression and his sharp muscular jawlines. He wasn't a ten but he was handsome enough to make me stare for a while.

“I'm so sorry Rebecca. I lost control of my vehicle and crashed into yours. Are you feeling pain anywhere?” He asked benevolently and I could feel my heart melting at the tenderness of his tone but a realization struck me. He had called me Rebecca again just like the nurse.

I opened my mouth to utter a protest and tell them I'm not the Rebecca they were mentioning but instead of voicing out my protest, I ended up screaming in pain as the headache kicked in again and I began having these flashes in my head.

They were images of people I could swear I never met before but they all seemed familiar to me. The last image I got before the flashes stopped was that of the man infront of me. I remembered meeting him, no, I knew this man.

“Alex?” I called out the name in my head and he smiled at me. A smile so warm and caring that I almost forgot I was in a hospital.

“Yes Rebecca, it's me.” He said and faced the nurse. “How long until she gets her memories back?”

“The accident was fatal and she shouldn't even be alive right now. It's a miracle really and so I'm not really sure how long it'll take but it's not a permanent loss.” The nurse replied and Alex bounced his head before returning his attention to me.

“I don't understand what's happening.” I muttered but suprisenly, he heard me. Even the nurse couldn't make out what I said but Alex, he smiled at me and responded immediately.

“I know it's confusing right now but you'll be fine. I'm sorry again for putting you in this situation. I'll call Tyler and let him know you're here so you don't get into trouble with him again.” He said and immediately brought out his phone.

The mention of the name Tyler made my blood boil for an unknown reason but I shook my head to get rid of that anger that was building up inside of me.

Alex assured me I would be fine before he stepped out of the room and the nurse asked if I needed anything before leaving after I told her I didn't.

I was still trying to figure out what was going on when I heard Alex voice from outside. I was sure the door was closed properly and that he wasn't shouting so how come I could hear him clearly? He was on a phone call with someone whom I assumed to be Tyler.

“Why should I come when you're the one who hit her? You take care of your mess.” Tyler said and I could denote from his tone that he was the opposite of Alex when it came to personality. He sounded arrogant and proud while Alex seemed caring and humble.

“She's your fucking personal assistant you jerk!” Alex yelled and I could tell he felt a bit frustrated, I would too if I had a brother like Tyler.. wait!

“Tyler? Tyler Carsted! I remember you.” I said to myself. He is Alex step brother and also my arrogant jerky boss! But that doesn't sound right, I never had a boss. I might not remember much but I know I never worked under anyone.

The door came open again revealing Alex with his usual caring smile.

“I hate to leave you like this but there's somewhere important I need to be. Tyler will be with you shortly.” He said and even though I bounced my head in approval, I didn't really want him to leave.

“Wait, you said you hit my car with yours right? That means you're hurt too aren't you?” I asked worriedly but he shook his head.

“I'm okay just a few scratches. You're the one who took the real blow.” He said with a sigh.

Something else was on my mind as he said that and I had to find out for myself if it was true. My gaze landed on the phone in his hand and I exhaled before asking politely.

“Can I borrow your phone, I want to check something.” I said and he immediately handed his phone to me without protest.

My hands were shaking as I collected it, a part of me hoping it wasn't true and I had just gotten a false memory.

Slowly, I turned the screen and raised the phone to my face. My eyes widened on seeing my reflection. It wasn't a false memory after all, it was real.

“This is Rebecca?” I asked no one in particular and I could tell Alex was a bit confused but he smiled to cover it up.

“Your bruises will heal don't worry.” He assure me not knowing I cared less about the bruises and more about the lady staring back at me. It finally occured to me that I was in someone else's body.
