Mag-log inDiane's POV
"Conrad Beaumont doesn't mix pleasure with work, and right now..." He holds my chin even higher, leaning in. "Pleasure comes before work." He completes before pressing his lips softly against mine. My eyes widen, shock and confusion colliding at once. My entire body freezes, my heart palpitating. I should pull away immediately, but I don't, and that scares me more than everything, more than his lips pressed against mine. My eyes instinctively go shut, and the moment I try to kiss him back, he breaks the kiss, his eyes locking onto mine. For the very first time since I got to know him, my entire face flushes, embarrassment washing over me. Diane, what the hell have you done? Trying to kiss him back? Ahh, I'm doomed. His eyes dwindle and a smirk sprawls across his lips. I bite my bottom lip hard, wishing I could disappear. I try looking away from his annoying gaze, but he holds my chin even tighter, so tight that I fear he might dislocate my jaw. My fingers curl, digging into my flesh as I try to stare deep into his eyes, but for fuck's sake, I can't. No matter how hard I try to keep my gaze on his face, my eyes move carelessly and land on his lips. How alluring and tempting they are makes me gulp, twice, before I pinch myself hard. His smirk deepens as he finally lets go of my chin, then takes two steps away from me, pocketing his hands. "Relax, I didn't say tonight." He mutters, turning on his heels. I curse him under my breath, breathing out in relief. "Get your stuff and let's leave." He's already ten steps away as he says it. I glance around the hallway, just to make sure no one saw us. I sigh, then hiss before running after him. "Just because you're my boss doesn't mean you should cross boundaries." I mumble the moment I catch up. He pauses, then swivels around. "Do I have to remind you again?" His brows squint. I blink. "Well... you don't have to. But some boundaries aren't meant to be crossed." I stutter. He glances at me briefly. "The event still stands." And without another word, he bolts out. I swipe my tongue across my bottom lip, then sigh. For a moment, I forgot why I'm even here. Not as a secretary, but still, he shouldn't have. Some workers might walk in on us in the hallway and I'd automatically turn into a laughing stock. A caricature, and that's not what I want for myself. I don't want rumors flying around the company that Diane Hall seduced the CEO. You know that annoying kind of rumor. He's already seated in the back of the car when I come out, and the driver is in too, so I quickly rush to my side and get in. "Drive." He simply tells the driver, his voice tinged with authority. The car comes to life before zooming out of the compound. The silence between us is awkward, unspoken words and feelings swirling in the air. No words, no movements, just the gentle hum of the engine and the AC. My palms are pressed tightly against my knees, and they won't stop sweating no matter how hard I try to control it. What's wrong with me? Why is this so tense? Is it because of the brief kiss? Or is there something more tied to it? I gently move my hands so Conrad won't notice my nervousness, brush a strand of loose hair behind my ear, then exhale. I turn my head, staring out the window. Maybe I need this to put my thoughts together. Seeing the night city bokeh, the tall trees and big houses makes a smile curl around my lips. The view alone is warm and comforting. But I barely spend two minutes staring outside when... "Seriously?" I hear Conrad scoff in disbelief. His voice isn't loud, but it's just enough to snap me out of my trance. I almost think he's referring to me, until I see his gaze is on his phone. I peek. "Sir? Did something else happen?" I ask cluelessly, still trying to catch a glimpse of what made him scoff. He lifts his gaze toward me, his expression tightening. "What else are you pulling, Diane?" Bingo. He's talking to me. I know that scoff is for me because aside from the driver, I'm the only one with him, but what does he mean? What am I pulling? "I need a brief enlightenment regarding the direction of this question, sir." I mutter softly, bowing my head. He hisses, then asks for my phone. Hello sir, this is my phone. Not your company's property or your girlfriend's. What's he thinking, asking for my phone? He's seriously behaving like a man who just discovered his partner is cheating and needs to confirm. I clear my throat. "I can't." I bluntly reply. "Your phone, Diane." He deadpans, his voice so firm and commanding. I would say no again, but I slowly pull out the phone and give it to him. A few seconds after taking it, I see his eyes darken, though his expression remains neutral. Then swiftly, he turns to me, raising the phone at my face. "What's this?" he questions sharply. My heart skips a beat.Diane's POVIs it only me, or is Conrad's scandal fading already? With the scandal handled by his PR team, none of the trouble falls on him, and it's been fading away as quickly as it spread. Conrad would love it. It's all he ever wanted. The scandal fading away means an end is coming to our contract sooner than I expected. I haven't gotten attached to him, only to all the things he has to offer me in return for accepting to do this with him."Are you even with me?" Conrad's voice echoes."Yes. Yes, I'm with you." I reply, batting my eyelashes. I didn't mean to be carried away with my thoughts.I'm worried for myself. The contract ending means I'll go back to being a stripper in one of the most patronized clubs in the city. That isn't me saying I'm not used to that life anymore.Conrad pays me so well, and I've gotten comfortable with being paid so well. To get the amount he pays me, I'd have to work in the club all nigh
Conrad's POVClubbing has become one of my least favorite things to do. It could be because I've been occupied with work lately; it can't be because I'm worried there might be a repeat of the last time. Here I am in front of a club, one of the private clubs in the city. I drove myself down here because it feels like I'm losing my spark, and the best way to reignite it seems to be clubbing.Everyone knows me to be the bubbly type and a nightlife lover, and I don't want that to change. I have a cap on my head, and since it's late in the night, no one should be able to recognize me."Time to unwind." I coo, and proceed to step inside.I left all my problems to Ward to handle, and it was the right decision. He has a team dedicated to solving all my problems, and it has been like that for the longest time. Whoever is stalking Diane will be caught soon. She got herself a new number, and it was my idea. I gave her strict instructions not to give anyone besides me her new contact, not her col
Diane's POVI step into the office breathing heavily. I'm two minutes late to work. I did all I could to avoid it, and that included running from the compound straight to the second floor in heels.Conrad won't go easy on me for being late. He doesn't care to know that I went to bed late, all because I was scared someone might break down my door and come for me after he left.I drop my laptop on my table and try to catch my breath. I don't look in a mirror, but I know my hair is a mess already. I ran without putting it into consideration."Mr. Conrad would like to see you." A colleague walks up to me and says. It's bad that I don't know her name, and it's like that with the rest of them too. Months in this office and I'm still a stranger.I smooth down my skirt, pat my hair twice, and give up on both. Then I pick up my phone from my bag. I already know the words Conrad will speak to me when I show up in front of him, which could be why I'm not fidgety. They won't be nice, I know. I tr
Diane's POV"Somehow, the footage we need to find out about the culprit is missing.""How is that possible?" I'm quick to ask."Whoever the culprit is, he's good at things like this."The CCTV footage would have helped us get to the bottom of the matter. I relied on it. The culprit decided to stay one step ahead of us, and that was wise of them."I have a feeling whoever is behind this is someone who knows you and me." I tell him."You might be right and you might be wrong."I heave a deep sigh that isn't of relief. Until we find out the identity of the culprit, my life is at risk. I can't say the same for Conrad because he has bodyguards looking after him.Ever since he dropped me off at work, I've been thinking about who could be behind this, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Perhaps Conrad is right, and this has to do with him and not me."Don't worry about anything. I have things under control." He interrupts the silence. He definitely says that so I can feel better."I ha
Diane's POVWhoever wants to make my life a living hell more than it already is, I have no idea. I can't stop thinking about who could be behind the anonymous messages, but I have no clue yet.I roll from one end of the bed to the other. I find it hard to fall asleep, and it could be because I know someone has been monitoring me closely, and the person sure doesn't have good plans for me."I have to make sure I lock the door." I mutter and get off the bed. Some minutes ago, I checked the door and found it properly locked, and I'm on my way to check it again. It's safe to say I'm scared of what might be coming. This might be a good time to have my friend come stay with me for a few days. Her company might make me feel safe. I get to the door and check again. It's properly locked. To get to work on time tomorrow, I must sleep early, but what do I do when sleep isn't forthcoming? Drinking to a stupor is definitely not an option. I don't want a hangover tomorrow.I look all around while r
Conrad's POV"You came at the right time." I say to Ward as he walks closely behind me."I do all the time. I have a feeling I'm about to save your ass again like I always do." He responds.I sit on the sofa in the living room. I had a long day at work and I know I ought to go straight to my room for a shower, but there's something important I want to share with Ward.He sits next to me, his eyes fixed on the television screen. My team and his are playing today, which must be the main reason he came, but I'm not in the mood for banter tonight."You kept me waiting at your door. I thought you'd close from work by 5pm. Did you go somewhere after work today?""Yes." I coo."I told you to give me one of your spare keys, but you refused. If you had, I wouldn't have had to wait at the door for hours." He mutters. He's my best friend, but I'm not willing to give him unrestricted access to my space for no personal reason. I take off my suit and take a deep breath. It feels like the right thin
