Ava Martinez

~•~

When I woke up, I realized I had been drugged again because I wasn’t really a deep sleeper. Someone had come into my room and the noise woke me up.

Groggily, I rose from the bed and made my way to the door. I still felt a little bit dizzy but I needed to find a way to leave the house.

As I walked downstairs, the entire house was quiet. But at intervals, I noticed sounds coming from one part of the house. It sounded like people were having sex.

I was hesitant to check at first but my curiosity got the best of me. I walked there quietly, so I wouldn’t get busted before seeing who the people were.

I couldn’t hide the disgust in my face when I realized it was Ruiz and a random girl. I had no idea he had a girlfriend. He didn’t look like someone who would have a girlfriend.

“What do you want?” He arched a brow and stared at me like he had just seen a ghost.

“You don’t lock doors while having sex?” I couldn’t help but ask even if I didn’t want an answer to it. “I’m ready to leave,” I added when he remained silent.

He dismissed my question like I was a stupid child who didn’t know what they were saying. “I’m busy, quit lurking and go back to your room.”

He was about to turn around when I held him back. “Didn’t you hear me the first time? I need to leave this place. I want to go back home!” I commanded in a fierce tone and all he did was laugh like it was some sort of joke.

“Give me a minute.” He said and walked back into the room without giving me a chance to speak. After a few minutes, he came back and showed me a recording on his phone.

“It’s either you stay here with me or you go and I kill them.”

“You sick bastard!” I yelled and he walked back into the room, slamming the door at my face.

I rested on the wall and slid to the ground. I felt a mix of emotions - I was angry, hurt, happy, and a little bit relieved.

My siblings were still alive, held captive by this madman. But their survival didn't excuse the brutal murder of my parents.

I stood up and walked to the door, banging on it multiple times. “Where did you keep them? Are my parents also alive?”

I screamed continuously but didn’t get any response from him. The only sound I heard was the constant moans from whoever was inside the room with him.

When I realized that he was just going to keep on ignoring me, I walked to the front door and tried opening the locks. I screamed in frustration as I couldn’t get past it.

I needed to find a way out of the house. I needed to help my siblings. He was also sick for giving me an ultimatum. There was no way in hell I was going to stay under the same roof with him.

I paced back and forth in the living room, thinking of what to do. I didn’t know my way around the house but I wasn’t spending another hour in the house.

I had to find a way to get out. To get help. To rescue my siblings. The recording replayed in my head. They looked so helpless and I needed to find them.

As I paced, I noticed a slightly opened window in the foyer. It was a risk but I had to try. I pushed the window up as quietly as I could.

Luckily enough, I was able to open it. I jumped through the narrow opening and landed outside. Unfortunately for me, some of Ruiz’s men were stationed outside.

Two of them ran up to me as fast as they could and held me down. I tried to fight. I tried to get away from them but I didn’t match their strength.

My face streamed with tears as they dragged me back into the house. I screamed at the top of my lungs hoping someone would hear me but my efforts were futile.

“You need to stop trying to escape because there’s no way out for you.” One of the men said and I glared at him. I would have slapped him in the face if I wasn’t pinned to the floor.

Ruiz must’ve heard the noise or was done with the person who didn’t love themselves enough to have any sexual relations with him.

He walked majestically to the foyer where his men held me. “Was she trying to escape again?” He asked, his voice dripping with mockery.

The men nodded in unison, and Ruiz chuckled, clearly entertained by my failed attempts at freedom.

“Let her go.” He ordered them and they released me from their grip. After that, they both walked out of the house, leaving me alone with Ruiz.

“Where are my siblings?” I asked, ignoring the lump that I felt in my throat.

“Your parents aren’t alive.” He replied casually to my initial question like it was no big deal. “Your siblings are safe. You have nothing to worry about.”

I didn’t trust him and I wasn’t going to believe his words.

“I need to see them. Please let me go.” I asked calmly.

Ruiz shook his head. “I thought you would have understood by now.” He moved closer to me, his face inches from mine. “You are not going anywhere.”

It took everything in me not to hit him hard across his face.

“What of my life? What about my school? I’m just going to drop everything and become a prisoner in your house?” I asked, my teeth clenched in frustration.

“That’s right.” He said in agreement. “But don’t think of yourself as a prisoner. This is your home now.” He said I blinked in disbelief.

He was acting like what he was doing was normal. I couldn’t believe and I was frustrated because I couldn’t do anything about it.

“Can you please take my siblings to my Abuelita?” Since he didn’t want to let me go, the least he could do was to keep them somewhere I was comfortable with.

“Sure, I can do that.”

I wasn’t expecting him to agree without a hassle, but I was glad he did.

Chapter 62 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ It took me a second to process what was happening. “Fuck!” I cursed through gritted teeth when it dawned on me that my mother was missing. My noise woke Carla from her sleep. “What’s going on?” She asked, her voice slightly groggy. I took a deep breath and narrowed my eyes at her. “Did you touch my phone yesterday?” I had to ask because I didn’t recall putting my phone on silent. There was no way I would have missed so many calls from them. I was very alert and would have heard my phone ringing. Carla nodded, rubbing her eyes with her hand. “Yes, I had to put it on silent because someone was constantly calling and I didn’t want to interrupt your sleep.” My jaw hardened and my hands curled into a fist. I couldn’t believe she would fuck up like that. She knew how my life was and how important it would be to wake me up if someone was constantly trying to reach me. “Get out, Carla!” My husky voice echoed through the room and she f

Chapter 61 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ Most people around me always thought of me as unhinged. At first, I found it offensive when they labeled me as unhinged, but after I took a step back and thought about all my actions, I realized I was actually an unhinged person. As I drove back home, I couldn’t help but wonder how Ava would react when she eventually realized that her date was dead. Yes, I killed Marcus. He wasn’t an honest person. He wanted to hurt MY Ava and I wouldn’t just sit and watch that happen. I couldn’t just pretend like I didn’t see him kissing another woman. Now both of them would continue whatever they wanted to do in the afterlife. I wanted to clear my head, so I took the longest route back home. Just as I turned on the car stereo and started playing loud music, my phone started ringing. I let out a loud sigh when I saw that it was Carla who was calling me. “What do you want?” I asked in annoyance when I answered the call. “Where are you? I mis

Ava Martinez ~•~ When I arrived at the house, I was excited to see Maria. Maria had been away for a while because she had to visit her family. It was safe to say that my stay at the house was boring because of her absence. I missed her a lot and I was glad to have her back. “I got a lot of clothes for you when I went shopping the other day,” I said to Maria as she accompanied me upstairs. “Ruiz allowed you to go shopping?” She asked with a puzzled expression registered on her face. “Wow, that’s new.” I understood her shock because I could count how many times I had left the house since he trapped me there. I was even surprised that he allowed me to have this newfound freedom. I couldn’t help but laugh as I continued. “He even allowed me to go out on a date with a man I met at the mall. I just finished having a lunch date.” Maria paused and gasped in disbelief. “Are you serious, Ava? How did it happen?” I hesitated for a while as I thought about the perfe

Chapter 59 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ Ava thought I was cool with the idea of her going out on a date with a random man who she met at the mall. But she didn’t know that it made me jealous and upset. I had promised to stop controlling her life. I had even gotten rid of the cloned phone. But no matter how hard I tried to respect her boundaries, I couldn’t shake off the urge to know every detail about her life. She thought she was going alone on a date but I had other plans. I couldn’t just sit and watch someone else take her away from me. I needed to do something about it. Initially, I thought Ava would get upset and cancel her plans if I asked her to go with security. But she wasn’t fazed by it. She agreed without hesitation. I was surprised. Maybe she really liked the man and wanted to go on a date with him badly. Or maybe she knew what I was up to and didn’t want me to win. I asked the security to keep a close eye on them. Earlier, I asked Ava to send me details of

Chapter 58 Ava Martinez ~•~ It was weird that I was being escorted to a date with security. But that was the only way I was allowed to be able to leave the house. Marcus had sent me details of where he wanted to meet and I was on my way there. I mean, we were on our way there - me and the security. I was nervous to see Marcus. It wasn’t like I had a crush on him or something. I just didn’t want to accidentally spill something about my life to him while we talked. My phone buzzed with a text from him. He was texting to let me know that he had already arrived at the location. We were only a few minutes away, so I didn’t bother to respond to his text. Soon enough, we pulled up at the driveway of the restaurant. “You’re not coming in with me,” I told the security as he opened the door for me to step out of the car. He raised his hand in mock surrender. “I’m aware, you’ve already mentioned it a thousand times.” He responded with a soft chuckle. He was right. I di

Chapter 57 Ava Martinez ~•~ Ever since the day I came back from the mall, I have been getting constant calls from the guy who collected my number from the mall. Initially, I ignored him but he was persistent, so I just decided to answer my phone. I made it clear to him that my life was already complicated enough and I didn’t need new people. But he claimed he didn’t mind and was open to making my life better. I didn’t think any human being was capable of making my life better. For a while, I stopped answering his calls and he resorted to texting me. What did he see in me that made him so attracted to me? In order to get him off my back, I decided to respond to his text. We started talking and I figured out he wasn’t bad to talk to after all. I spent the previous night talking to him and he ended up asking me out on a date. I was skeptical at first but then I decided that I was going to accept his offer. Ruiz had agreed to stop controlling my life, so I decid

Chapter 56 Ruiz Giovanni ~•~ I was resting at the poolside when my phone started ringing. I groaned inwardly as I retrieved it from the table beside my chair. I wanted to have a chill afternoon without disturbance but now, someone was calling me. As I glanced at the screen to see who the caller was, I sat upright on the reclining chair. Why was my bank calling me? “Talk to me,” I demanded as I answered the phone. “Good day, Mr. Giovanni.” The man greeted calmly. “There’s a large transaction about to happen on your card. I just wanted to cross-check and make sure that you are aware.” I nodded even though he couldn’t see me. “Sure, I’m aware,” I replied, running my hands through my hair. “How much is it though?” I had given Ava my card to go shopping earlier. But it was weird for the bank to call me because I didn’t think she would spend a large sum of money that would catch their attention. “$500k.” My eyes widened in disbelief and I gasped in shock. “$

Chapter 55 Ava Martinez ~•~ After having that conversation with Ruiz, it felt like an imaginary weight was lifted off my shoulder. I had been living in tension and it felt like torture, but hearing him apologize and agreeing to give me my freedom felt so good. I wanted to see if he was serious about letting me go wherever I wanted, so I decided to tell him I was going out to the mall. I wanted to shop for some new clothes, shoes, and accessories. Even if I didn’t have any particular place in mind to wear them to, I just wanted to partake in retail therapy. Shopping has always been therapeutic for me and I couldn’t wait to do it. It was almost noon and I was still on my bed. I had already showered and eaten, but it was the weekend and I didn’t have anything to do, so I was having a lazy day on my bed. But when the idea of telling Ruiz I wanted to go shopping came to my mind, I climbed out of my bed and made my way to his room. I knocked on his door multiple time

Chapter 54 Ava Martinez ~•~ I was on the phone with my siblings when I heard someone knocking on my door. I rounded up the call before heading over to answer the door. I opened the door slowly and popped my head outside. Ruiz was standing in front of the door. I wanted to slam the door at his face but I decided to be nice. “What do you want?” I asked, glaring at him. Ruiz let out a deep sigh. “I want to talk to you.” What did he want to talk to me about? I wasn’t interested in being in the same space with me. I didn’t even want him to come close to me. “What do you want to talk to me about?” I asked, rolling my eyes at him. “Can I come inside?” He asked, instead of answering my question. Was he out of his mind? After what happened the last time, he still wanted to come inside my room. “No, I can hear you from here.” I shook my head firmly. Ruiz sighed. “It’s confidential, I don’t want anybody to eavesdrop on our conversation.” I hesitated for a whil
