GABRIELLA

A lot was going to happen that night, but pleasure was far from it. I stared right at Marcello, who was bare chested, lounging on the bed like he owned the air I breathed.

What was he thinking? A consummation of the marriage vows? Never! A marriage that was built on force had no future.

“You successfully forced me into this marriage, and for some reason you think you’ve won. You haven’t!”

“The problem is, you think this is a fight, but it isn’t,” he chuckled. “I have won already… so this act of yours is quite interesting.”

“Interesting? You murder my father and then drag me to your house to play wife,” I replied.

Getting up from his bed, “Oh, please, your father wasn’t as innocent as you think he is. He was a treacherous…”

“Don’t you dare speak about my father like that,” I cut in. “He’s a dead man, you killed him, so you have no right to insult his name!”

Marcello closed the space between us in three quiet steps.

“Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to engage in an argument with you, so I’m going to make this easy. Strip,” Marcello said.

Strip?

Is this bastard asking me to strip?

Like reflex, I raised my hands to give him a slap, but he held them mid air, wrapping his hands around my waist and dragging me close.

Using one finger, he motioned no.

“The moment you walked inside this house, you became my wife. Everything you had became mine, and that includes your body,” Marcello said sternly.

“You are just a bloody fool. You think you own me.” I laughed sarcastically. “You are drowning in delusion. I am going to get out of here, and I’d make sure you suffer for what you did to my father.”

Releasing his hands from my waist, he dragged me by my arm to a long mirror that was just by the corner of his room. Standing behind me, he signaled my attention to the mirror.

“What you don’t know is, Marcello can have any woman that he wants,” he said in a quiet whisper.

“You should be honored I chose you,” he continued.

His grip was so tight on my arms, I wanted to withdraw, but I couldn’t.

“I am not like many women who fall at your feet. I have standards.”

A smirk formed on his face. “Yet your father was willing to send you off to a man that you didn’t know. Those so called standards of yours don’t hold much weight.”

“Then let me be! Why not pick a random woman of your choice and have them marry you? Why me?”

His eyes went from the mirror to my neck, adjusting my hair so that my neck could be revealed. With accurate precision, he ran a finger down from my ear to my neck, and that sent chills down my spine. It was like his hands were laced with electricity and my body responded to its pull. I was uncomfortable with the very way my body seemed to react.

He’s an enemy.

I cautioned my body.

He leaned in, very close to my ears. I could feel his breath.

“I wonder why I bother in the first place. Look at you, you are so skinny. There’s no ounce of flesh in your body, and you’re not even my type. Even if I wanted to touch you, it wouldn’t bring me pleasure. It would be a waste of my time and energy.”

His hand trailed from my waist up to my neck, then to my temple.

“You should eat some more, maybe then I’d consider touching you,” Marcello said, withdrawing his grip from my body.

I scoffed, having so much to say in my mind but very few words to express it. I watched him walk to the other corner of the room, tapping a button, and in less than two minutes his door opened. A guy walked in carrying a tray of food, different dishes neatly arranged. At Marcello’s signal, he left.

“Sit,” Marcello ordered.

“I’m not sitting. I want to go back to my room.”

“Your persistent disobedience will attract punishment, Gabriella. If you value yourself, you’ll sit still.”

“I’ll take the punishment,” I shot back.

I dared him, and he said nothing, other than opening his safe and bringing out a different kind of chain. He came at me, and I tried to escape, running like a child in a hide and seek game. In no time, he caught up with me, dragged me to a chair, and chained my wrists across the armrests. Then he did the same to my legs.

I felt restrained.

For the first time in my life, aside from the emotional restraints that sometimes came in my father’s house, this was worse.

Marcello dragged the tray closer, dishing out food and pouring a glass of red wine.

“How do you expect me to eat when you’ve tied me up?” I hissed.

“Allow me to treat you like my wife, just for today,” he said.

He sat down, took a spoonful of food, and brought it to my lips. I turned my head away.

“I’m not interested in your food.”

“I never asked if you were,” he replied flatly. “Open your mouth.”

When I refused, he grabbed my chin, forcing my mouth open, and shoved the food in.

I chewed slowly, pretending to swallow, then spat it right in his face. I could see his face harden.

He got up, walked to the bathroom to wash off his face, and returned moments later. To my surprise, he said nothing. He sat again, picked up the fork, and took another bite himself.

“Let’s try this again,” he said.

He forced another spoonful between my lips, this time pressing a knife against my neck. The blade was cold.

“Eat,” he ordered.

Like someone eager to meet death, I spat the food out again, this time on his chest.

He didn’t lash out. Instead, he laughed loud, dark, and unrestrained. The sound crawled under my skin, freezing every muscle in my body.

I became terrified.

Terrified of what that laugh meant.

Terrified of what he would do to me next.

Gabriella“I stole it!” I bellowed my voice raspy and weak; I had to lie, there was no way I was going to let Luca get into trouble. “You stole it?” Marcello repeated his tone laced with doubt.“Yes, from a random maiden, she had no idea I stole it, so yeah, you can go ahead and punish me for wanting to be free!” I retorted.A small smile played on his thin lips as he clicked his tongue. Then he muttered silently, “I don’t believe you.”My heart sank, was he a demon or something? It was as if he had placed me under some lie detector machine.“What?”He narrowed his gaze over me, “I think you aren’t saying the whole truth and you know that can get you in trouble, right?”“What would I gain by lying?” I said almost immediately; he gripped the bars, his face filled with zero empathy.“That’s what I’m still trying to understand, who are you trying to protect?”I swallowed hard, faking a smile, “You’re so delusional, why would I want to protect any of your spawns?”He went mute for a few

GabriellaThe plan was simple: wait until dawn and sneak out of the mansion with the key Luca had provided. But little did I know that my plans were about to be an epic failure.Marcello had been to the House of Hell casino, according to Adrianna, and I was all alone in my room, plotting and mapping out my escape plans.“You look distant!”Andrianna's voice jolts me out of my reverie, and I feign a smile. “I’m just sad about my father’s death!” I muttered, leaning against the headboard, and she caressed my hands softly.“I know what my brother did to your family is terrible and there is no amount of apology that would heal that wound!” She pleaded.I swallowed, nodding, pretending to understand what she was saying, but deep down I needed her to leave so I could escape. I stared at the wall clock behind her. It was almost six pm. “Thank you, Andrianna, thank you for keeping me company but I’d like to take a nap.”“Oh, it’s alright, I’d let you rest.” With that Adrianna stormed out of

Gabriella The man burst into loud laughter and I shook with fear, what was he laughing about? “Of course I know you and guess what? I’m not scared of you,” He snarled, turning to face me, “this lady is coming alone with me.” I should be jubilant and joyous, but I wasn’t. Who knows, he might be just as bad as Marcello was. A smile played on Marcello's mouth then he took one step closer but the man tightened his grip on my neck. “Any more move and I’d slit her throat!” He threatened. Shit! This can’t be happening to me, why did I even come here in the first place? “Don’t hurt her!” Marcello said emotionlessly his gaze locked on mine, he then winked at me but not in a flirty way, but in a way that suggested that I try to hit the man who was holding me. “I will do what I want with her!” He said and that’s when I felt the pistol kissing my head. Shit! I was totally fucked, Marcello gave me that wink again and it nearly drove me insane. How can he ask that of me? I was lanky, wea

GabriellaIt wasn't what I expected the place to look like. It wasn't just a normal date, it was a business meeting and I was his date, his trophy wife, one he could show off to his hungry-looking friend.“Shit!” I muttered when I almost tripped, and he squeezed my hand lightly, staring at me.“Are you okay?” He asked and I rolled my eyes. Why was he acting like he cared all of a sudden, I adjusted my dress looking away. “You don’t have to act like you care we both know you don’t give a fuck about me, this is just a facade, to deceive your gullible and evil friends.” “Maybe, but then it’s better you behave yourself or I won’t hesitate to waste you here!”I stiffened immediately; something about his tone told me he was serious. Was he earnest? So I wasn’t even safe here? “And do not drink anything here or you might end up with your father!” He added. Shit! That was insulting but necessary. I was going to pour myself a glass of tequila to maybe loosen up and force a smile but now

Gabriella “Oh my….” I gasped when I realized I’d missed, he dodged so the knife hit the wall falling to the marbleFall. I tried to kill my father’s murderer yet I failed once again. I’d expected him to flare up or even slap me hard across the face but instead, I got no reaction, he kept his facial expression straight and emotionless as if he was considering killing me on the spot or starving me for the next five days like he always did.“I’d have skinned you alive but I’m in quite a good mood because we have a date to attend, wife,” he said taking a step forward, we were now standing face to face.He lifted my chin so I could look into his big black eyes that had no soul in them and then a small smile played at the side of his lips, “ Get ready wife, but don’t waste my time.”He motioned to Luca to carry me back to my room, which he did. I was so shocked that I had no words. I thought I would be punished, but instead, here I was in my room, preparing for a stupid date I didn’t wan

Marcello“Dispose of him,” I commanded, pulling off the blood-soaked gloves I wore, a smile playing on my lips as I reminisced on how I’d dealt with Sebastian, a reminder that no one messes with my family and goes scot-free; they always suffer. I disposed of the gloves in the bin, crouching to stare at Sebastian's limp body. While I waited for two of my men to drag him away towards the dark hallway, his neck slumped to the side.I brought out the pocket square wiping my hands. I was still wearing the tuxedo I wore to my weddings, I didn’t have enough time to change, and I had to attend to pressing issues that Sebastian was trying to escape from the basement I kept in. “Are we done here?”Luca asked, his voice jolting me out of my reverie. “Of course, we are, he’s dead after all,” I said walking towards the hallway, Luca flanked me, trying to keep up with my pace. “I have news on the men spying on the House of hell!”Luca boomed and I stopped in my steps, my attention grasped now.“
