The morning of my eighteenth birthday had arrived!
I was sitting in the lounge room on the big three-seater lounge chair listening to Leah and Julie have a playful argument regarding a guy that Julie was convinced Leah had a thing for. I knew that she didn’t have romantic feelings for anybody, and that all this teasing was just in good fun. By now these crazy arguments between the girls over random nothings had become the norm for me since I had been living here with them. It was almost like they got off on annoying the crap out of each other.
In an attempt to win the argument, Julie had recruited Lilly onto her side. The plan had obviously been for Lilly to help Julie to gang up on Leah. Not wanting to be outdone by them, Leah was now trying to recruit me onto her side. But now that they had seen what Leah was trying to do, Lilly and Julie had decided they were not going to let that happen! So, they were trying to get me to side with them as well.
“Come on Leah, admit it, you do like him. Lena, she does like him, doesn’t she? Come on Leah, just admit it, you like him!” Lilly teased her sister.
“No, I don’t!” Leah denied, her cheeks turning a light shade of pink.
“Ooh look, she is blushing,” Julie taunted, pointing out Leah’s now red face.
“Lena, help me out here, please,” Leah begged, looking over at me.
“Girls, I have told you before, I am Switzerland in these arguments. This bickering session just like with the other session’s you girls have had since I have been here, is between you girls. It is a family thing. Keep it in the family and leave me out of it, okay?” I laughed, holding up my hands in a gesture of surrender.
Just at that moment, my phone rang. I looked at the screen and I couldn’t help but smile when I saw Winter’s name flash on my screen. I missed my big sister.
I answered the phone and Winter and Felix started singing Happy Birthday to me. I laughed at them both as they sang to me in their funny birthday voices. Winter had always done that to me my whole life. She had always used a funny voice when singing the song to me. Over time it had become almost like this tradition we had.
“Thank you, guys,” I told them, laughing out loud when they had finished singing the song to me.
Lilly, Leah, and Julie had now become silent in the kitchen, and when I looked over at them, I noticed that they were sitting at the kitchen table openly watching me in amusement. Winter and I spoke for a few minutes, and she filled me in on everything that had been going on in her new pack. It was evident to me that she was enjoying herself there, and I was glad that she had found her place in this world, somewhere that she belonged. I could tell from Winter’s tone of voice that she loved Germany as much as I loved Ireland. I was so happy for her!
“I am telling you bubba, this place is incredible. I love everything about Germany. Felix’s parents run their pack so much better than the pack is run back home. And their set up is unlike anything I have ever seen before. I hope you can see this place someday,” she told me, her voice filled with excitement and happiness.
“I am glad you are enjoying it,” I told her. She sounded just like a little girl on Christmas morning.
“Oh, I am. So, what are your plans for your birthday?” she asked.
“I have made no plans,” I replied.
“Why not? Bub, you need to have fun! Do something, come on, it’s your birthday,” she told me, sounding her usual bossy self.
“You know what? I will Mrs Bossy Boots,” I told her.
“Good, I am glad to hear it. Now get off the phone and go do something,” she told me, a grin clear in her voice.
“Alright, I love you, I will talk to you soon,” I told her before hanging up the phone. After I got off the phone, the girls were on me like a pack of dogs on a three-legged cat, bombarding me with questions.
“It’s your birthday!” Lilly exclaimed.
“Why didn’t you tell us?” Leah asked.
“We have to do something today to celebrate,” Julie added.
I got up from my seat on the lounge and walked over to where they were all sitting in the kitchen. I poured myself a glass of orange juice, and after I had gotten my drink, I took a seat at the table with the girls. I had just taken my seat at the table when Leah’s phone rang. She picked it up and looked at the caller ID before giving the girls a look that I could not decipher.
Leah answered the phone, “Hi Daddy,” she said, her voice sounding cheerful, while her face clearly showed worry.
I looked at Julie and Lilly and noticed they were both tense as they watched Leah. ‘This can’t be good,’ I thought to myself, as I watched them. I glanced back over to where Leah was talking on the phone, and it felt wrong to me that we were all sitting here openly listening in to her side of the conversation.
“Yes, yes definitely… on Thursday?... Oh, yeah, I had forgotten about that… no… I am not sure… no, I honestly do not know. I will ask them for you… oh, okay… yes… okay… yep, that’s what I meant, I will tell them. Yeah, they are right here. Girl’s, daddy said to tell you that he loves you.”
“Love you, daddy,” Lilly yelled happily.
“I love you too daddy,” Julie called out, laughing at Lilly.
“Did you hear that? Okay, good. I will see you then. Yes, daddy, I love you too… okay… okay… bye-bye now,” Leah said hurriedly before ending the call.
When she had hung up the phone, she looked at us and said, “Dad said we are to go home on Thursday after our classes and stay there for the four-day long weekend.”
Lilly and Julie turned and looked at me, but I couldn’t decipher the look on their faces.
“It’s okay girls, stop looking so worried. I am sure that I can survive a few days here without you girls. It will be a good opportunity for me to catch up on some of my assigned reading anyway. Think of the quiet time I will have without you girls here arguing every five minutes,” I told them teasingly, while trying to reassure them that I was going to be fine in their absence.
“Actually, you’re going to be coming with us,” Leah stated, as she watched me closely.
“Wait… what?” I asked her slowly, confused by this revelation. “Why do I have to go with you? He isn’t my dad! He has no authority over me! He can’t just demand that I go home with you! I mean come on! Seriously? Who does that? I will tell you who does that! Psychopaths and serial killers, that’s who! I’m not going with you, and I don’t care if you ring him right now and tell him that! In fact, while you’re at it, you can tell him I said he can go take a running leap off the nearest cliff!”
Julie and Lilly laughed at my brief outburst, while Leah worked hard to hide her smirk. “My dad said I was to bring you with us, he wants to meet the rogue that has been living with his daughters,” Leah replied, still smirking at me.
“Wait, who is your dad? And why did you tell him I was here in the first place? I have never been a threat to you,” I cried out, feeling betrayed by the girls, while at the same time feeling worried about what this meant for me, as a sinking feeling crept into my stomach.
“Alpha Doyle,” Lilly replied proudly, with a big grin on her face.
“Alpha Doyle? You mean Alpha Doyle, as in the Alpha Doyle of the Celtic Moon pack! That Alpha Doyle?” I asked, more worried now, and feeling my anxiety begin to rise.
Storm At the mere mention of his name, I could sense my heart rate pick up as my anxiety increased, and I was sure that I was going to have a panic attack. I had been socialising and living with the offspring of a highly feared Alpha, and I had had no idea of the problems I was creating for myself, as I had built friendships with them. I wasn’t surprised that I hadn’t known they were from an Alpha family though; I mean, I had obviously never seen the girls in their wolf forms. But to know I had been living with the daughters of the worlds most renowned rogue killer, I was now feeling more terrified than I had felt in a while. I had come here to get away from my father and brother who terrified me, and now I was having to deal with a highly feared rogue killer. This wasn’t going to end well! I think it was safe to say that my luck had officially run out! The problem was, the girls being from an Alpha family, meant that now that their father had taken an intere
Storm A mutual sadness was now hanging over the four of us as we sat around the table, each of us locked in our memories and pain. Suddenly Leah stood up and said, “Okay, enough of this sadness, today is supposed to be a good day, a happy day, it is Lena’s special day, so let’s spend today having a good time celebrating Lena’s birthday, and we will leave worrying about going home as a problem for tomorrow.” “Girls, I have one quick question, do you mind if I ask, where is home for you guys?” I asked. “Carraroe, it is an hour’s drive from here,” Leah said. “So, Lena, how old are you today?” Lilly asked. “Eighteen,” I replied. “Ooh you are old enough to find your mate now,” Lilly squealed in excitement. Her response had me thinking about Josh. But not wanting the memory of him to ruin my new life, I pushed all thoughts of him out of my mind. “How old are you girls?” I asked. “Nineteen,” Julie replied. “And, have a
Storm We made our way into our bedrooms and got ready to go out for my birthday celebration. I was wearing a pair of jeans and a hoodie with my favourite pair of combat boots. I had dressed for warmth and comfort because I had no idea what the girls were planning to do to celebrate my birthday. I slipped five hundred dollars into the cover of my phone case and pulled my hair back into a high ponytail. I made my way out to the lounge room and waited for the girls to finish getting ready. When everyone was ready, we left the dorm room making our way downstairs and getting into Julie’s car, which was a dark grey Porsche Cayenne. Driving into Galway we went to Taylors Hill Pitch & Putt Club. The girls had decided to play a round of mini-golf, and I must admit, I never knew mini-golf could be so much fun. I had always thought mini golf was for nerds, but the girls and I were laughing and having more fun than I had honestly thought could be possible, especially
Storm Two days after my birthday, it was the dreaded Thursday, and we were getting ready to go to the Celtic Moon Pack. To say I was nervous is downplaying things a lot. I was as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof. I was seriously terrified! I was so scared that even in my wolf form, I hadn’t been able to sleep a wink last night. Leah came into mine and Lilly’s room dragging a small suitcase behind her for me to put my things into. She had decided it was going to be easier for me to use one of her small suitcases since my two duffel bags were all large ones. I packed what I was going to need to get me through the next four days. Clothes, shoes, toiletries, my hairbrush and some hair bands, deodorant, perfume, phone charger, purse. Leah and the girls had assured me we were going to be staying at the family home, and that we would not be attending any functions while we were there, so we only needed to pack for comfort. After I had packed everything that I was
Storm Storm Once we had gotten ourselves packed for the trip back to the girls’ pack, we grabbed a quick lunch, and I had barely been able to bring myself to eat any of it. My stomach was in knots, and I felt sick. After we had eaten our lunch, we had tidied up our dorm room before leaving for the long weekend. A short time later, saw us once again in Julie’s car, but this time we were heading to Carraroe. It was raining heavily, and I was sitting in the back seat with Lilly. Leah was driving since she had volunteered to drive, and Julie was riding shotgun. On the way to Carraroe, we listened to music, and I found out the girls were die-hard Ed Sheeran fans. On the drive, the girls had also taken the time to fill me in on their pack and what to expect when we arrived at their father’s place. “Alpha Doyle aka our father is thirty-six years old, and his Beta Sean is forty, but despite the age gap between them, the two of them have been best friends thei
Storm Leah came around to my side of the car, and opening the car door, she stood there and waited for me to get out of the car. “It’s okay, hop out of the car, there is nothing for you to worry about, Lena,” Leah said. “What if this goes wrong? You know what Alphas do to rogues. Just because your father loves you and could never bring himself to harm you, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t hesitate to kill me!” I told her, my voice barely more than a whisper. “He won’t hurt you,” she whispered back. “Okay, riddle me this then Sherlock. When your father rang you the other day, did he issue an Alpha order for you to bring me here? Or did he happen to merely mention you bringing the rogue who was sharing a dorm room with you home to meet the family?” I snapped; my voice filled with sarcasm. Leah rolled her eyes at me in frustration. “Look, what if you and I make a compromise? Okay? We will see how things go tonight, and if you don’t feel comfor
Leah Seeing Lena’s fear had me feeling guilty. She was like this because I had done this to her. I was the one who had made the decision to ring my father before I had ever met her. I was the one who had told him all about her. And now, I was the one who had carried out my father’s instructions, no questions asked, and forced her to come here with us. This was my fault! She didn’t deserve this! I will admit that I was surprised when she had snapped at me. But her reluctance to get out of the car combined with her fear of being here, along with her snarky demeanour spoke volumes. She was barely holding herself together. When I eventually got her out of the car, she was shaking, and she looked as though she was seconds away from falling apart. Seeing the fear, she was trying so hard to fight, caused my heart to ache. Who had made her so afraid that she had this bad a reaction at the mere thought of meeting an Alpha? And better question, what had
Alpha Doyle Sean and I heard the car pull up and we began to make our way outside. Just as I had gotten to the bottom of the stairs, one of our housekeepers had stopped me, needing to discuss an issue regarding two of the cleaning staff. This annoying issue had me sending Sean outside ahead of me to greet the girls alone. Once I had dealt with the housekeeper’s issue, I once again began to make my way outside. I glanced around, seeing my daughters and their stray. As I began walking towards them, Lilly, the ever impatient one, ran towards me throwing herself into my arms in excitement. Laughing, I hugged her before setting her back down and walking towards Julie. Julie smiled at me as she gave me a hug before stepping aside so I could make my way over to Leah. As I approached her, I saw that Leah had a good grip on the arm of the rogue who was standing beside her. The rogue had her head lowered, and her eyes locked on the ground in front of her. When I got closer to
