Chapter 4

Author: Deepwell
"No need to wait for your housekeeper. I've already had my people send him away."

My eyes widened instantly. I hadn't expected him to actually dare do something like this.

The next moment, Mabel escorted us out.

I was taken to a suburban villa owned by the Huxley family. That was where I finally saw Alistair.

"Alistair, do you even realize what you're doing?" I demanded. "This is illegal detention. If my parents find out, have you thought about how you'll explain this to them?"

In just a few short years, Alistair was no longer the timid boy who used to trail behind me, begging for resources and opportunities.

Now, he radiated the aura of someone in power. With a mere flick of his hand, Lisa obediently leaned into his arms.

Hearing my words, Alistair let out a disdainful chuckle.

"What's there to explain? You're about to become part of my family anyway. Our two families have worked together on so many projects over the years—you don't seriously think your parents would fall out with me over you, do you?

"Lisa may be a poor student, but she's taken care of me all these years in your place. She's never seen much of the world. Can't you just give her some leeway?"

"Alistair, you're disgusting!" I screamed, cutting him off. "Who gave you the nerve to say something so vile?"

He frowned impatiently. At once, the people beside him stepped forward and forced me to my knees.

"Looks like being sent abroad for all these years didn't teach you obedience after all.

"Lisa, how did she bully you? Return the favor."

Lisa walked over with a smile and slapped me hard across the face.

"If your face gets ruined," she said sweetly, "you won't be qualified to stand beside Alistair anymore, will you?"

After that, she ordered the bodyguards to slap me a hundred times.

Blood flowed from my ears and mouth. My head rang violently, my vision spinning.

Still not satisfied, Lisa told them to strip off my clothes.

I struggled desperately, but Lisa broke two of my fingers and ripped off several of my fingernails.

Alistair had brought many bodyguards. I had no strength to fight back. The countless invasive gazes fixed on me filled me with unbearable humiliation.

"Sheila," Alistair said coldly, "take these next few days to reflect properly. I'll come see you again in seven days. I hope by then you'll understand how to please a man."

He left after saying that.

I tried to make my way back to the city on my own, but in the middle of the night, I heard wolves howling. Terrified, I had no choice but to retreat back into the villa.

There was no food inside—no water either. After just three days, I collapsed in the living room, utterly drained.

Staring at my twisted fingers and battered body, I clenched my teeth hard enough to draw blood.

Then suddenly, the villa door was kicked open.

My housekeeper rushed in with a group of people.

When I woke up again, I was lying in a hospital room at my family's private hospital.

The housekeeper was sitting by my bed. When he saw me wake up, his eyes lit up with relief.

"Miss, you're finally awake! You nearly scared me to death. If something had happened to you, how could I ever explain it to Master and Madam?"

"Where are my parents?" I asked.

My throat felt torn raw. Every word carried the faint taste of blood.

"Master and Madam are already on the plane. They'll be here very soon."

"Good," I said softly. "Go tell the Huxley family—if Alistair can still stand tomorrow, then the Huxley family doesn't need to exist anymore."

It was clear I would never let the Huxley Group off the hook. Alistair's parents had preemptively filed for bankruptcy, at least preserving their retirement funds.Since Lisa was pregnant, Alistair planned to go through with their wedding. But on the eve of the ceremony, he still decided to crawl out and disgust me one last time."Sheila, I… I just can't wait any longer. I've waited for you too long, and I want a normal life now," he said, stumbling over his words. "I admit I used Lisa as a substitute for you, but from now on, she's the mother of my child. I will respect her… maybe even love her."In short, we were fated but not meant to be. In the next life… the next life, I will wait for you!"I had only stepped out for a meal and ended up witnessing this nauseating spectacle.I stayed calm and simply said, "I've recorded everything. I'll send it to your wife in a moment. If you don't leave, I'll break your dick."Terrified, Alistair turned and ran. I sent the recording straigh

The Vance Group had finally achieved perfect balance between domestic and international operations. The Huxley family's projects imploded overnight. Every single online user who had spread rumors about me suddenly found themselves face-to-face with the police. Several prominent bloggers even received court summonses. For a time, the entire internet went on edge—no one dared mention me again.Alistair and Lisa also got a seven-day "vacation" at the police station for their slander. But by the time they were released, it was already too late.Alistair emerged to find his family's entire financial chain shattered. Even the overseas company he had relied on vanished overnight. Desperate, he investigated and eventually fixed his gaze on me.I had destroyed his overseas investment, poached his top staff with high salaries, and uncovered critical accounting irregularities in his company. One day, he showed up at my company's underground garage, dragging a lame leg and a broken arm, head

I shook Alistair's hand off and let out a cold laugh. "Alistair, why are you acting like a dog, obsessing over things that don't belong to you? Even if our engagement hadn't already been called off, anything belonging to the Vance family is still not something a rabid dog like you gets to covet."I suggest you get out while you still can. Last time it was your leg—this time, there's no telling what it'll be."The moment I mentioned the incident where I broke his leg, Alistair flew into a rage."I haven't even settled that score with you yet, and you dare bring it up?" he snarled. "Sheila, your family's company is practically bankrupt. How much longer do you think you can keep acting arrogant?"I'm telling you right now—this is your last chance. If you don't take the hint and agree to marry me, just wait until your parents send you off to some old man as his second wife!"Before he could finish speaking, I grabbed a wine bottle nearby and smashed it straight over his head.Alistai

That day, I'd thrown the Huxley family out so fast that I didn't get a chance to formally announce the engagement was off. Later, my family made it crystal clear: the Huxley family was to leave this city immediately.Yet they refused to go, apparently convinced I wouldn't dare do anything to them.Meanwhile, I'd been too busy with company matters to deal with them properly, and Alistair had taken advantage of that gap. That afternoon, I had just returned from meeting with a client. A sudden gust of wind blew into my eyes, and seeing me struggle in heels, my partner instinctively reached out to steady me.In that instant, Alistair suddenly appeared and delivered a brutal punch to my partner."Keep your filthy hands off my woman!" he roared.I hadn't expected this. Luckily, my reflexes were sharp enough to have my bodyguards restrain him in time.Glancing at my partner, I noticed blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. Rage boiled inside me. I immediately ordered someone to

The housekeeper ground his teeth in fury at the sight of my battered state and immediately agreed to follow through.Soon after, my parents returned—and with them came the Huxley family elders. And Alistair, being carried in on a stretcher, arrived as well. The moment my father laid eyes on Alistair, he sneered."Alistair, it must have been so exhausting for you to 'educate' my daughter while she was being so difficult. And yet, I wasn't aware that every member of the Vance family had died out, and it still fell to your Huxley family to do the hard work!"Alistair's parents froze in fear.Over the years, our company had expanded overseas, with much of our assets moved abroad. That had created the illusion domestically that the Vance family had grown weak. Alistair had taken advantage of that perception to flaunt himself outside. But face-to-face with my parents, he was nothing more than a pawn.Unfortunately, Alistair didn't seem to realize this. He tried to rise from the stretc
