Chapter 2

Author: Lucky Koi
I ignored Randy's provocation and casually mentioned that I had to go back to base the next day, so I would not be home tomorrow night.

I saw a glint of delight in Maya's eyes as she glanced at Randy.

Early the next morning, as soon as I left the house, I turned on the pinhole camera I had hidden in the bedroom.

Sure enough, Randy was in my house and in bed with Maya an hour later.

Afterward, Randy smugly groped Maya's chest as he said, "Hey, ask Eric to come with us to my friend's restaurant the day after tomorrow. We can do it in the restroom. Cheating right under his nose is going to be so exciting."

Maya only gave him an embarrassed slap, but she did not refuse.

I saved the video with shaking hands. Then, I took a deep breath and decided to pretend I knew nothing while gathering more evidence.

The next day, I returned home and got Randy's call as expected. "My friend opened a restaurant. You and Maya should pick me up, and we can go eat there together. Consider it a welcome home dinner for you."

I calmly agreed, then looked at Maya, who had already changed into her prettiest outfit.

After we picked Randy up, I drove to the restaurant in silence, my expression grim the whole way.

From the back seat, Randy gave my shoulder a hard squeeze. "What's with the long face, Eric? I'm the one treating you to dinner, yet you still look like you'd rather be anywhere else. What, just because you're an army officer now, you think you're too good for your old friend?"

I was about to answer him when I saw an SUV coming at us from the opposite lane. Out of instinct, I swerved to shield Maya.

With a bang, my head hit the steering wheel, and blood streamed down my face.

The driver who hit us hurried out and knocked on my window. "Hey, are you alright? My car suddenly skidded. I'm so sorry!"

I endured the pain and raised my hand, waving him off. Then, I said hoarsely, "Call the police."

"No, your head is still bleeding. Call an ambulance first."

"Right! An ambulance! Call an ambulance."

Maya, who was in the passenger seat, finally seemed to come back to her senses. She took out her phone in a panic and made the call.

Seeing how anxious she was, warmth began to spread in my heart just before it froze over again.

After Maya finished the call, she turned around with a worried look and grabbed Randy in the back seat. "Is your head alright? Does it hurt? When the ambulance gets here, you get in first."

I glanced at Randy's head. It was only a minor scrape, yet he was looking at me with a smug glint in his eyes. "I'm fine. Eric should get in first. He's bleeding, after all."

Only then did Maya notice me. She awkwardly let go of him and handed me some tissues. "Here. Wipe it for now."

I stayed silent until the ambulance arrived, and the paramedic confirmed it several times. "You want us to take the one with the minor scrape on his forehead?"

Each time, Maya nodded firmly.

I could not hold back anymore and questioned her coldly. "Can you not see the blood on my head?"

To my surprise, Maya simply looked at me impatiently. "What if Randy has a head injury? You're a soldier. You get hurt every day, so you're already used to it. What's a little blood to you? Can't you let your own friend go first?"

I thought back to how gentle and thoughtful she had been when we first got together. She would run around taking care of me even when I caught a cold. She would be so worried she could barely sit still.

When had everything changed?

Sensing my silence, Maya seemed to realize she had overreacted. Her tone softened as she tried to reassure me. "Randy's your best friend. If something happened to him while he was in our car, how would you explain it to his parents? I think the cut on your head has already stopped bleeding. Once we get home, I'll clean it up and bandage it for you myself, okay?"

She sounded so sincere, as if she truly were only doing it for my sake.

If I had not known the truth, I might have let her talk me into it again, just like before.

After leaving the prison, I went home. As I was passing by the property management office, an older security guard called out to me and handed me a thick stack of envelopes. "Mr. Palin, these are your letters. The mailboxes were repaired a few days ago, so we sorted these out for you. Take them home." I took the envelopes in surprise and saw that every return address was from the prison where Maya was being held. Maya had sent one almost every three days, but she probably did not know I never checked the mailbox at home. She had asked to see me earlier, but I had refused every time. Maybe that was why she had started writing letters. I opened the earliest one. Inside, she wrote scattered details about her life in prison. For most of the remaining pages, Maya carefully explained why she had cheated with Randy. It was far more detailed than what I had seen in their messages. At first, she truly had no thought of cheating at all. What she thought about most every day was hop

Knowing there was no way to fix things, Maya stopped struggling and could only stare at me blankly. I took a step back, looked around at everyone again, and said in a low voice. "I won't pursue what kind of roles you played in today's events since this is your first offense. If you have a personal grudge against me, come to me privately and settle it. But if I ever hear you insult a member of the military again, the consequences won't be something you want to face." Everyone quickly nodded, afraid I would change my mind. The man who had attacked my crotch earlier also stepped forward timidly to apologize. "I'm sorry, man. We really didn't know what was going on. Randy told us he had a friend who always looked down on him and used his rank to force him into looking after his house, so he asked us to help him vent. I got carried away, and... Why don't you hit me a couple of times? I truly feel bad." The others came over one after another to apologize too. "Yeah, I'm sorry. Randy

But Randy merely rubbed his face and looked at Maya with contempt. "Of course, you can say whatever you want now. You and your husband are pinning everything on me. Back when you seduced me, that wasn't what you said." Maya was about to hit Randy again, but I stopped her. I looked at Randy with disgust and said, "Do you think this is all I have? I exported all the messages between you two. The timeline proves you seduced her on purpose. Yes, Maya did something wrong, and she should pay for it as well, but you had malicious intent from the very beginning. I really want to know something, though. Is seeing your best friend successful enough to make you hate me that much?" When Randy heard that, he suddenly rushed forward and shoved me hard. Rage twisted his face into something ugly. "Yes! I couldn't stand it! Why should you get everything? Why did everyone only ever see you when we all grew up together? Our parents praised you, our friends envied you, and you even married a gentle wi

Maya and Randy froze when they heard the soldier's accusation against them. Meanwhile, I looked at them coldly as I said, "Didn't you want a birthday gift? This is it. Enjoy it with your new boyfriend." Everyone looked stunned. After they came back to their senses, they all stepped forward to intervene. "Sir, there must be some mistake. You can't cover for each other just because you're all soldiers." "Exactly. Randy only looked after Eric's wife because Eric asked him to. How could Eric turn around and blame him for something he didn't do?" When Randy heard that, he instantly hid his panic and spoke with righteous anger. "Exactly! If you're accusing me of something like that, you need evidence, right? I didn't do anything! Even if there was some misunderstanding, it was because someone threw herself at me! How can you blame me for it?!" After that, he deliberately glanced at Maya. That look nearly made Maya break down. She raised her hand and pointed at him, but for a lo

I forced down my anger and took photos of all the evidence. I then organized it with the videos I had taken before and submitted everything to the military with a single tap. The military took soldiers' marriages seriously, and what they had done could be charged under the crime of interfering with a military marriage. Just as I was done, Maya came out of the shower. By then, I had already regained my calm. I said, "Let's do what you want for your birthday." - On Maya's birthday, everyone showed up to celebrate with the two of them. During the meal, Randy suddenly stood up and handed Maya a beautifully wrapped gift. As soon as Maya opened it and saw the sexy lingerie inside, the whole room began cheering. Randy raised his eyebrows at me. "See how good I am to you? Absence makes the heart grow fonder, you know? So, I'm helping you warm her up." Then, he turned to Maya and said meaningfully, "Drink more tonight. Don't forget to put it on." Maya blushed shyly and scolded

During the three days Randy was hospitalized, Maya brought him full meals every day without fail. Meanwhile, I nursed my own injury alone, forcing myself out of bed through the pain just to toast the bread. As for Randy, he kept posting on social media to provoke me. [A little scrape on my head still doesn't hurt my stamina.] [My girlfriend's really starving. She's so eager.] I calmly closed the app before getting up and driving to the hospital. When Randy saw me come in, he raised his eyebrows and said in a sarcastic tone, "Well, look who it is. You still remember your friend is staying in the hospital?" I ignored his mockery and walked over. Then, I pressed down on his head and turned it from side to side a few times. "You look fine. Why haven't you been discharged yet?" Randy impatiently shook off my hand, a strange smile tugging at his lips. "What can I do? My girlfriend insisted on spending her husband's money so I could stay a few extra days. Otherwise, she wouldn't
